    Guys, apologies for a small mistake: The third match the Hung Gar student was not Sifu Albright’s student. That was another match we covered a while ago.

    Novell know what he's doing, so if Cavali is part of that NYC/Harlem/Brooklyn group, he's gonna have the benefit of that experience. Those guys have been mixing it up for real for a long time. 👏

    The ironic thing is that within China,
    the word "kungfu" (功夫) doesn't refer to a specific style of martial art.
    Sometimes doesn't even refer to any martial art.
    The word just means skill acquired through time and effort. (usually refers to a physical skill)
    So something like parkour would also be called a "kungfu".
    Often, "kungfu" does get used as an euphemism for martial art training,
    but once again it doesn't refer to any specific style.
    Even a Muay Thai expert would be described as having "kungfu".
    So whenever someone (including traditional chinese martial arts practitioners)
    presents "kungfu" as if it's some distinct & bounded style or lineage of martial art,
    something has gotten seriously lost in translation.
    And yes, that means most of the Internet's understanding of "kungfu" is seriously off. :|
    ( In the same way that Taiji Quan often gets (mis)translated as "the supreme ultimate fist",
    thus propagating a false impression of what Taiji is really about.)

      Funny how you feel the need to explain this to the owner of this channel who’s a Mandarin native speaker 😅 Also that’s some of that “well akshually” type of knowledge. Everyone knows, but we still do it.

    • @tranquil_dude
      @tranquil_dude หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Livingtree32 it's funny that you feel the need to pass judgement on the value of my comment.
      My explanation is not specifically for the channel owner, but for whoever comes by and sees the comment.
      Perhaps you've lived in an environment where it appears "everyone knows" and everything's fine. That's great, for you.
      From my own experience, a lot of people actually don't know the true meaning of kungfu-related terms (or actively ignore it), and it's a root cause for a major portion of problems arising in the kungfu scene.

    Even back then, Cavali's fight I.Q. was very good. Distance, angles, anticipation... all there. Yeah, you don't see a lot of axe kicks. Why bother? Just push kick.

    I literally forgot about these fights.
    The first fight was against Richie Torres from rhino fight team. I used to stalk to a girl from that same gym lol. But yeah this was at UCL(underground combat league) MMA wasn’t legal in NY yet so these were in sanctioned fights. I think I weighed 137 and he was about 160. I haven’t smoked in 11 years but I came in high as hell that day. Richie was also a contestant on the iron ring TV show that was on BET
    The fight with Alejandro Richardson was actually my first fight in UCL, and and just like the fight with Richie, I didn’t really have the fundamentals of Kickboxing down yet. I just had that dog in me and was down to fight using kung fu.
    The fight with sifu Jess upton was a rematch. I stopped him in this fight with a knee. I was a on for that one. Novell saw that he didn’t really have it, so he stopped the fight. Me and Jess had some words again and that ended up in a 3rd fight on the MUSU karate vs kung fu event. I fought a wing chun dude from Sweden that same day. I can’t find those clips tho

    don´t know much about kung fu, but the ¨muay thai¨ guy looks more like a kickboxer. The stance, the way he moves to punch or kick, the way he punches.... I´ve done both kickboxing and muay thai... a lot of people use the terms interchangeably, but I see more kickboxing in him.

    I see someone with explosiveness, great cardio, aggressive, and fast reflexes. Don't see see how Kung Fu is winning this, rather being young and athletic is.

    • @Seven-not-Six
      @Seven-not-Six หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I understand that view. Though... Martial arts are by their very nature, Violent. Some more or less than others.
      So an accomplished Snake🐍 practitioner's movements would be more fluid than someone practicing Tiger🐅. You would see more technique and less violence when it came down to combat.
      The guy in video; His practice is one of external resilience. Same could be said about Monkey🐒. The external arts don't really age as well as the soft/internal ones which is why you tend to see the old practicing things like Tai chi.
      Some schools express the qualities of hard and soft in their art, I've only seen Tai chi & Dragon stylists blend it well.

    • @maxhensley1685
      @maxhensley1685 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Athletic talent might be inborn, but being able to actually use your reflexes or explosiveness, apply aggressiveness effectively, etc. are all trained skills. When muay thai fighters win matches, people rarely say "oh, this isn't a win for muay thai, just the fighter's athleticism." But obviously, the best muay thai fighters are ones with great athleticism to build their training on. No style has a monopoly on being able to prepare people to fight effectively.

      @SKMGCavali Can you elaborate ? Because if you intend to fight like a kick boxer, you might as well stop practicing your form. Otherwise, it is a waste of time. When you will face a true kickboxer (training and fighting like a kick boxer), you will be facing a serious problem.
      My advise if you train kung fu, fight like kung fu, or don't train kung fu in the first place

    Interesting. So... He's trained alot since then, I'm assuming... In this video, seems like. He had a tendency to extend his face parry. Kinda hard to pull off in the moment. Really has to be trained... and the kicks weren't set up.
    Axe kicks are my favorite. Unfortunately, they require a good timing or set ups. You can throw them quick at the cost being significantly weaker.
    Also. Sidenote.. no headgear? I like the idea of not using it because we won't be in the street, however... Hit hard during training and it can mess with your effectiveness in the street.
    ...unless you're a sports fighter.
