    Thank you brother. I had to buy one of these for my sons because the town took all the hoops down. This is all they will really have to do while stuck home. This would have been a major PIA if not for your video. Many thanks

      Hi,thanks for your comment.It means a lot to know I'm helping people. I've performed thousands of assemblies over the years,since 2001. Decided to finally show people the easiest way to get through them.Also was surprised how other people,and companies even,had made (helpful) videos that really didn't help,in my opinion.So glad to be actually helping with all of the important tips I have learned already.Thanks again,take care

    THANK YOU, RT Assembly. You basically saved our hoop - I was stuck multiple times on steps 2 & 3 of Lifetime Hoop 71286 because the company's directions horrific directions. As many others have said, I WISH I had seen your vid before I started. Your vid could have saved me multiple HOURS of frustration had I watched it instead of following the company directions + company vids. Luckily my wife found your vid eventually because I was so frustrated I was on the verge of giving up and trashing the entire hoop! The steps described in your vid make a lot more sense then what's in the company directions (particularly in terms of when & how to install the backboard, lift arm to pole, etc). And most helpful of all is your COMMENTARY describing what's happening in the vid and WHY.
    YOU saved the day, my friend. #SuperHero

    Excellent video. I got stuck attempting to connect the lifter arms to the bottom hole of the connection arms. The instructions have the backboard at a 90-degree angle, which is misleading. In that position, the lifter arms will not reach the holes of the connection arms. Thank you for your video!

    Thank you for this video. I was really reluctant to build the goal I got this week, but because of this video I went for it and it took us less than 3 hours in total and we had no real issues. I tried using the methods you showed and still no luck.

    • @rubbertoeassembly1673
      @rubbertoeassembly1673  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes,there is paint on the pieces which makes it difficult. you can take a round file and file the inside of the holes,but if you push and spin the bolt,eventually threads through. Also,there are two of the 3/4 bolts that are little longer than the others,those are the ones you use for behind the backboard.If you use one of the others,you'll get it finally through and wind up being a bit short for the nut to go on at the other end.So you'd have to back it all the way out again,and use the longer one,..not fun. Anyway,i hope that helps

    Thanks so much for making and sharing this video. It was incredibly helpful. I relied almost entirely on the video rather than following the user manual. Only a few times did I consult the manual to check if I was using the right bolts/screws. This is one of those assembly tasks where it's much easier to follow a video and see how things are done rather than reading how to do it.
    One thing I wish I'd done -- I wish I'd bought a drill at the start and used it during the earlier parts of the assembly. I thought I could get away with just using the wrenches and such that I already had, but then I got to the drill part and realized there was no getting around it. It would have been much easier if I'd made sure I had all the recommended tools going in -- the ratchet wrenches with the right sizes and all. When I did buy a drill, I realized how much easier it made everything. I think the instruction manual probably has a list of required tools, so maybe for novices like me who think that a pair of crescent wrenches and screwdriver will get the job done all right, a good warning/reminder about tools up front would be good. Lesson learned.
    Overall, assembly time for me was probably 5 hours. There were a number of steps where I had to rewatch the video several times and spend some time figuring it out. I'm not really handy, but I get by for the needed task now and then.
    I found it kind of comical that around the 33:50 min. mark, you're drilling in a screw and warning people about being careful, and then the video transitions and next you have a huge blue bandage on your hand, but you don't make any comments about it.
    I decided to fill the base with water and then put about 6 sandbags on top, since I wasn't sure if this would be the permanent location. I see that Lifetime doesn't recommend this approach (sandbags on top), but they don't say why. Seems stable enough. You might want to mention other approaches, such as BaseGel or the anchor method.
    Overall, I'm pleased with the stability of this hoop. Here's a short video clip of me shooting baskets on it so people can get a sense of it. th-cam.com/video/GO1G-drggiM/w-d-xo.html. It seems sturdy enough. My kids love how easy it is to lower the height. Even my 9-year-old can raise and lower the hoop.

    Can someone help? I’ve spent 8 hours on this and the backboard is facing the ground when the pole is upright (it’s off by 90 degrees). Do I just need to reposition and tighten the bolts for the shorter top arms or is something else likely wrong?

    Hi, my lifetime 90176 with trigger style height adjustment won't go to 10' slot the rim stop hits the pole so it can't go in ?

    • @rubbertoeassembly1673
      @rubbertoeassembly1673  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,thanks for comment.Well,I looked up the model number,and pictures of both variations of the trigger handle were shown.With that same model number?? Interesting for me to see this.So,i am going to assume you have the grey handle that is a solid piece.The other handle is blue and has a left and right side to assemble together with guts inside.But the grey handle version ,has a plastic top that gets inserted before you run the top bolt through it.That plastic piece sometimes presses against the pole before it clicks into the ten foot notch on the mechanism.You can either file off the end of the plastic piece enough until the mechanism clicks into ten foot,..or you can take the bolt out of the top and remove piece or flip piece backwards.I would try shaving it down with a file,because i believe the plastic top piece adds strength and support.The unit will still function without that piece,but its a plastic molding issue I've noticed over the years....If you have the blue handle version,then all i can think of is the square pole inside the adjustment mechanism has the notches in the wrong place and maybe call lifetime to replace defect. Hope i have helped,sorry for delayed reply.Take care

    The centerlock nut connecting my backboard bracket to the backboard got stuck onto the 9/16 hex nut screw with the bracket on but isn’t screwed on all the way and is loose. I tried to tighten it then loosen it with my wrench but it was just stuck and kept rounding out the nut. How would you recommend getting the nut out? It’s a hard angle to use tools on and I don’t want to ruin the backboard.

    • @rubbertoeassembly1673
      @rubbertoeassembly1673  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,thanks for question.Yes,I use a 1/2 inch angled ratchet to tighten or loosen if needed.You can also use a ratchet handle,with a deep socket on it. An open end wrench even works,but takes a lot longer.The tighter it is ,the less bounce or spring the rim has when the ball bounces on it. I hope this helped,good luck

      Hi thanks for comment, well, i would have to check it out. Maybe call previous owner and see if they modified it. If you contact manufacturer,they might be able to help.especially with possible replacement parts. If you are going to start taking things apart to troubleshoot,then first remove the springs from back of backboard to the lifter poles. And then be careful still. and lay it on ground,,,also, get the assembly manual on line and look at that for sure .it will show you and tell you how all goes together,,and the tools needed, maybe work your way backwards good luck take care

      Hi.thanks for question,That is something you want to get right.But if you need to pull them apart,what has worked for me,more times than not is, put one of the long bolts through the holes at the ends,and while you hold one piece of pole,you bang them apart by hitting the bolt in the outer piece in the opposite direction. However,if poles do not come apart,and just won't,then you don't want to damage the hole that you put the bolt through,or bend the bolt in the pole by hitting it so hard.If you have banged the poles together already really hard,they probably won't come apart without damage.Then you might try calling the store you purchased from.or the manufacturer direct and let them know you need new pole pieces.I am three out of five over the years at getting them apart without damage.The two that i could not separate,had to have new pole pieces replaced by store or manufacturer.Never easy,good luck,hope i have helped

    Is it better to fill with sand or water?

    • @rubbertoeassembly1673
      @rubbertoeassembly1673  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,thanks for question.That has been asked a lot of times over the years.I like to fill the base with water,and if you think it needs more weight to hold it down,then put sand bags on top of base.Once you put sand inside the base,its next to impossible to get out.If you fill the base with water,you can always pour the water out later on if you want to disassemble for any reason.With sand in base,it becomes so heavy,which makes so hard to move.There is a reason why they call it a portable hoop.It is basically up to you to decide if you want sand or water.Also,in my opinion,if you put water in it , you can tell right away if the base leaks in any way.Even if its a pinhole leak in the base,it is defective and should be replaced.And if you fill with sand,you may never know that the base has a hole in it.I hope this info helps

    Hi, I just made a mistake it looks like, my alignment of top pole (probably middle & top both) needs to be rotated 90 degrees. This I am realizing after setting up the hoop & glass with the 4 rods. Is there any way I can open the top poles from middle or middle top from lower? Or is there an easy way to rotate it? Otherwise if I attach the poles with the rodes, hoop system would remain standing rotated 90 degress with back support which I think may not provide enough support when ball hits. Please advise. Thank you so much for such an amazingly accurate video, very helpful !! Thnaks

Ahh,well did you bang the pole together on a piece of wood yet? hopefully not. i stuck one of the bolts thru the holes at second from the end,on the pole once..and was able to bang apart. but had to straighten the bolt again by putting a nut on the end,to protect the threads,and banging it in curb of the street. got it straight and kept going. hope this story helps. on the flipside of that ,i once had to call store to bring back pole and lucky that they gave me 3 replacement pieces..take care best of luck

    • @rubbertoeassembly1673
      @rubbertoeassembly1673  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks for comment. Well, that is not good. But once or twice its happened to me, I used the big bolts that come with it to pull apart. I put them through the holes on pole, and bang them apart carefully. Sometimes, if they are not together super tightly, they will loosen and come apart,when tapped in opposite directions. When it worked for me , I had to straighten the bolts again after that. But if they don't come apart or the bolts start to rip the holes in the pole, then you'll have to contact store or manufacturer to get three new pole pieces,and try again. Good luck, be safe about it and take care.

      Hi,thanks for comment.Well,they all shake a little.Personally,I like the lifetime hoops better.The 54 inch is my favorite.And they are easier to assemble,in my opinion.It is hard enough as it is for the average consumer to be able to assemble for the first time.When assembling,make sure poles are correct before banging tight together,they are almost impossible to pry apart if they are wrong.And take your time running axle through the bottom connecting pole to base and wheels.Watch video again if needed,and careful not to damage plastic base. good luck,take care

  • @keshavsastry5765
    @keshavsastry5765 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am not able to slide the axle through the holes on the portable base. The holes on the base don't seem to be aligned. Even without the pole, the axle does not seem to go though both the holes on the base. Is this to be expected? All the videos online and instructions say that you need to use a mallet to push it through, but the issue here seems to be a bit different as the axle is hitting the base and not aligned to the hole in the base. I tried even with the pole to see if the weight of the pole helps to align/push the axle through both holes on base, but it did not help.
    Any tips on what I might be doing wrong?

    • @rubbertoeassembly1673
      @rubbertoeassembly1673  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,thanks again.I replied with the best explanation i could think of regarding this section of assembly.Hopefully you have got it by now.However,if not then your idea about using the weight of the pole to line up is a good way to put what i was trying do describe as well.If you can get the axle through the first wheel,and put it through the first hole in base,then bring the pole up to where it needs to go and push axle through both holes of pole,just barely coming through..it can be away from the last hole in base at this point..while holding the axle right where it is,carefully bring pole in against the base and use pole to help bend the base to where the axle lines up.Very difficult part.
      having the pole and base in the exact position i show makes this easier to do.Once pole is started through other side of base,remember to put other wheel on before banging through to the end.If you forget the other wheel,you'll have another hard time prying axle up and backing out.Anyway , good luck ,hope I have helped.I would say watch the video over to see exactly how i do it.It is never really an easy thing to do

    Can anybody tell me whether the height can be adjusted SEAMLESSLY/STEPLESS ? To be clear: Most adjustable hoops allow you about 6 steps with each being about 5.9 inches. I want to use the hoop to practice dunking again and I want it to be just under 10 feet. I can dunk on 9.8 feet so I really want a hoop where you can go inch by inch not in huge steps. That info is not available on Amazon or anywhere else... :-( Thanks in advance !

      Thanks for comment.There are some in ground models that go in the concrete that are much more intailed,and much more work involved,but you can set them any heights usually between 7 and 10 feet. Theres also an older model 54 inch portable that you can adjust like that as well. I have not seen that one in a long time though.
