    I am soooooooooooo so so SO sorry about the speed and pitch of this video. I've gone back through EVERYTHING I've got to try and work out what's gone wrong. The turntable is perfect - speed is 100% accurate. The vinyl RIP and listen is 100% perfect. The different video elements are all completely accurate and at the correct speed and pitch.
    The final render is NOT correct. I think I've worked out what's gone wrong and I can only apologise. I am uploading a new version identical in every way apart form the speed which will be correct!!!! The video will be about 1 minute and 20 secs shorter as a result!

    I've liked a lot of Dream Theater songs over the years, though rarely after only one listen. Their transitions can often leave me cold until I know the song well enough to expect them. This song is mostly approachable on the first attempt other than that quirky bit in the middle. I think this one would grow on me well.

    Here’s what I always say about the drumming. If Mangini was the original drummer and he left everybody would hate Portnoy. To me that is dumb. I think Mangini is just as good if not a better drummer and Portnoy. There I said it

    • @JimNewstead
      @JimNewstead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed!

    • @nathanaelcole8466
      @nathanaelcole8466 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beyond drumming, Portnoy was a more creative force than Mangini has been so far. Petruci is the most important to the orchestrating of things now, but I think back then it was a bit more of a duo with Portnoy. I agree, people would hate on the new guy regardless, but some of that stems from more than just drumming and style. For example, I love the 12 step suite, I love each song individually, I love them together, and I love that Portnoy did it over many albums. Maybe Mangini has that creative side maybe not. Maybe the band as a whole has slowly been bringing him in, I don't know. If you haven't watched the full new drummer audition videos, it's amazing, but I didn't see much if anything about other things the new drummer might bring to the band other than being able to play Portnoy's drum parts. I will say as a person from what I've seen, Mike Mangini is a hell of a guy and I love his drumming personally. He's a good fit imo.

    • @Easy_Skanking
      @Easy_Skanking 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To me, Mangini is more technical and precise but he does not have the fire and aggression of Portnoy. That fire is what I find lacking in DT since the change. Since then, their music just falls flat to me. It's like someone turned down the color saturation. It's really disappointing as they were in my top three bands before.

    Nice reaction. So far my favorite track on the album for its adventurous nature. But what I’m about to tell you might be shocking coming from a DT fan (since the early ‘90’s): this song pales in comparison to the new album from Others by No One called “Where Stories Come From” (also came out on Oct 22nd). That album is breathtakingly complex, catchy, diverse, deep and adventurous. Devin Townsend, Between The Buried and Me, Native Construct as well as DT and Haken are a few of the sources of inspiration for them, yet they sound very unique. Please give them a try, they so deserve more attention and exposure! :).

This is what their Facebook info says: There is no single way that London trio URNE describe their sound, it all comes back to 1 thing: heavy. Shades of Metallica, Mastodon, Death & Alice In Chains in there, hopping between sludge, tech-metal, doom, hardcore & anything else with a weighty heart.

    You know you make it as a Progressive Metal band when someone listens to Dream Theater and they say, "Hey that sounds like Haken" ;) Really the only issue I have with this song is that for an Epic I find the ending unsatisfying. The ending could have been put in the middle and the song could have ended with the part at 15:51 - 18:11 and I would have never given it a 2nd thought other than truly amazing. Agreed though. Jordan is playing less technical then usual and it sounds amazing.

      Yeah I absolutely loved Visions, The Mountain, and Affinity but Vector and Virus are just okay for me. I think it has to do with them trying to put shorter songs on shorter length albums. I don‘t like how the last two were 45 and 52 minutes a piece and Diego isn‘t using any orchestral/violin sounds. Also, they seem to do much less soloing than in the past.

    Not much of a Dream METAL Theatre fan. This song again, like when I saw them 20 years ago opening for YES left me cold despite their "virtuoso'-esque indulgences. Progbands like KENSO from Japan do this intense playing much better though they lean towards Jazz more than Metal which I prefer. Kenso also have better & more imaginative melodic / rhythmic transitions, arrangements and overall conceptual structure. DT never really seems to ever truly go anywhere no matter how hard they try. It's not enough to play fast & slow to be great. That's why classic YES, Genesis, VDGG etc were so astounding. It was bc they wrote not just to showoff but their concepts were imaginative and composed extremely well. Dream Theatre really do try hard. I'll give them that.
