Good job, I agree. One that bothers me is a team member that doesn’t pay attention to their time to bowl. I don’t have the patience to constantly wait on them for so long.
_This,_ all day…even if you’re collecting 50/50 raffles.
Amen
Absolutely… that really gets me too!!!
They would have never survived way back when. (old guy shaking his fist at the clouds mode warning for anyone who might be triggered) We used to run double shifts every night at 6 and 9PM at every house across the county. Leagues seldom started late, even second shift.. because there was no such thing as two lane courtesy, and when it was your time to bowl, you better be there to throw that shot. Maybe it was because there was no computer scoring and people had to pay attention. Now it takes over three and a half hours to bowl three games. Even worse is the guy who expects lane courtesy DURING PRACTICE BALLS.. get out of here... sheesh.
@@chasbari As another "old guy" I agree. I would add that practice used to be throw one shot and move on. Now everyone waits to take a second shot at spares if they don't strike. That's less time I have to warm up and read the lanes in practice.
People that go to the bar or to the snack bar right before they are to bowl. Not just once but every few frames. Keep up the great content!
#6 got me laughing the most. Yep, yep, yep. I can call a ten pin leave off my hand.. meantime I am surrounded by bowlers who say "oh, you got ripped off." Nope! Does that mean I don't wish the shot carried?.. heck, I wish they all would.. but I know and understand why they don't.. physics!
That’s a hard one for me. I haven’t learned enough yet to figure out what I need to change to not leave the 10. 😂
Powder/ rosen or easy slide everywhere.
One of my team mates was bowling with balls from a long time ago, I told him: Upgrade your equipment and watch your average go up, I know him well of course and know he has great technique, he trusted me and he went from 180 to 210 instantly 😂 30 pins is allot!
Ive always given one lane courtesy, until the last couple of years, ive been seeing people out of the corner of my eye two lanes over.
This is gold! You really need a podcast Sarah!
Wow!! You nailed it!! I haven’t been able to bowl for years but I also worked in a pro shop and nothing has changed!! Great video!!
Great video. My bowling ick is when someone throws a bad shot or gets a bad break then continues to stand at the approach and stare at their leave for a minimum 30 seconds
@@darrentex6723 omg this is so annoying 😂😂
@@sarahbowls the first thing people do, and its sooo funny. They look down at the approach like they stuck on something, then rub their shoe over it. SIT DOWN!
Great video!I am trying to watch one of your videos a day until Christmas.😊This was one of favorites..
One thing that bothers me… I hate when a group will bowl on a lane and grab several house balls and then when they leave, they leave them there in the ball return… It’s completely inconsiderate because the next person on that lame needs to return them all or an employee has to walk by and put them away. I make sure if I see someone leaving a bunch of house balls to mention to them that it’s very polite to return those 😎
The Bowlero near me just remolded and took out most of the storage racks. During open bowling the returns are full of balls, they have portable racks and remove the balls before league. I just move the balls to the bottom or next lane over
@ ☹️😡👎
Great stuff Sarah. Especially practice. I did a bowling clinic and have been working on incorporating what I have learned into my approach and even more practice.
I can't stand lane courtesy during practice. The time is limited and I need to get loose.
Great day ICKS Sarah! Love them.
My biggest bowling ick is when we’ve got a game going on and the lane decides it would be funny to fuck up when it comes to resetting the pins where that element malfunctions and freezes gameplay to the point where I have to go to the desk to tell them to fix it so we can continue and what’s worse is, that’s a true momentum killer when the game is really good and we’re all having a blast.
And you talk about practice makes perfect: I used to suck ass at bowling to the point where come mid-2022, I rage quit after losing a game I had won which originally was gonna be permanent till my current job said rules wise *Play the game or don’t go* as in *No more watching the gameplay* and I figured *Why not?* and give it another shot and now look at me! I’m a helluva lot better now!
The two lane courtesy icks me to no end. I've been bowling in one league for 8 years. Every year I bring up to change it to one lane. Every year it gets shot down. Another ick and its kinda related are 'the nods'. Some times it looks like a bunch of bobble heads as nobody wants to bowl.
Great video. Jeff does a good job with all my pro shop needs. It's me who sucks not my newest ball. Someday, when I don't hurt, I might practice. I'm just glad my new fit and dropping weight helped my pain.
Totally agree with these especially the new ball one. I got 2 new balls recently and was bowling horrible. Instead of getting another 2 balls, I talked to my PSO, he gave me some advice and now my average is back to where it should be.
That was a good "ICKS" list. Much respect for putting it out there Sarah.
I’m guilty of the new ball one. In fairness I don’t have a spare ball or a ball with low enough reaction to use. I have to use a strike ball and constantly change my release to have it do everything.
I agree with you. All of list.
As a manager at a bowling alley, I agree with pretty much the entire list lol. One of my worst ones is when bowlers take their thumb tape off, and stick it on the table, the touch screen, and don't throw it away. Like throw that shit away, especially if it's literally 5 feet away...
Oh I’m judging you..for being awesome! 😂 great points! I work in a bowling alley and I’m on league. You were 100 percent right on!
When people put powder on the bottom of their shoes…
Tape backing that gets dropped on the floor next to their lockers. True, the garbage is 10 feet away. It's hard to carry it that far.
100% agree, especially with picking up after yourself. Don't make the people that work at the bowling alley clean up any more than they already have to people. I also find it annoying when someone bowls and they slam their ball into the lane super hard upon release. I've seen adults hammer their ball into the ground during league play hard enough to echo through the building and I'm always surprised that someone from the bowling alley doesn't say anything about it. There's no way that's good for the lanes.
You really have a different perspective, more along the lines of a owner/ operator. One my Ickes is super slow play…there is that one guy that will practically make love to his ball before even stepping up to throw, but he is on the approach. My entire team has an agreement that we do not wait, while he is caressing his ball….😊…once he actually moves to his mark with his ball in hand is when we give him actual courtesy….
No one--and I mean, NO ONE--requires 30 seconds to set up a shot. I'm talking from the moment he is standing on the approach, facing the foul line, fingers in ball. You don't need to say the _whole_ prayer, you don't need to align your chakras, you don't need to achieve an altered state of consciousness. It's bowling. Line it up, deep breath in, deep breath out, and you're moving. I had this one guy on Friday nights...OMG. What made it even worse was he was the anchor bowler and their lead bowler would refuse to bowl until Mr. Molasses Uphill in Winter finished his frame. Consistently the last team to finish every damn week...like they literally had no place else to be afterwards. Hated bowling against them...
Totally agree with this vid and all the peoples comments.
hey Sarah, great points. A bowler should realize if you are on league especially, its your game. By no fault of the equipment, other bowlers, or the ball return. You went there to have fun I hope. A good attitude will make all the difference. I have been through most of those issues. Will say that new equipment with your pro shop can help though. But its not the cure. Its your game own it!
Facts! Straight thru the video 💯
My ick is bowlers going “look no oil at all, these lanes are dry” while throwing the most dull ball they own… like yeah of course you can’t see the oil by the time your ball comes back, IT ABSORBED IT LIKE ITS SUPPOSED TO. Also it’s sad you have to tell people to clean up after themselves, when most league bowlers are full grown adults, just crazy stuff lmao
Sorry might be off Topic but back in day I used go junking I found old Plastic birdbath base and a bowling ball. Had it by top my driveway like a glazinball. It was beautiful. One day few summers ago I came home seen base got hot ball rolled down driveway found it a cross road.
True Story
❤🚗❤️🚗❤️
Love you Sarah keep up the great work
They people that scream dowl the lane after throwing a bad shot just as I'm about to release the ball. Love it.
Love this
Hey Sarah, what does H5G mean?
it’s the company that makes my jerseys
Ok , thought it had a special meaning, but I dig it now!@@sarahbowls
@@demarcusbryant7972 High 5 Gear. They’ve been making bowling jerseys for a decade and a half. They were the primary dye sublimated jersey provider for the PBA from 2013 to 2022, before the PBA opened the door to other manufacturers to sponsor other PBA bowlers.
I have so many and, as someone who is having a bowling center built from the ground up, I'm giving serious consideration to what the house rules need to be. Damaging equipment is obviously #1 and also something that is causing me to think I might want to hire plain clothes police. Lack of courtesy for other bowlers is definitely a close second. And I don't mean two lane courtesy. I mean altering the lanes, approaches, settee areas, seating, scoring, or other common areas with food, drink, rosin, powder, or anything else. It's also a pain in the ass to clean up.
My teammates are a little older than me but always leave their cups, cans, and trash. I always clean up after them. Drives me nuts. My ick is players who throw fits like a toddler. That's just crazy.
No diss but Sarah you actually do some of your ICKs in your game.. "grabbed it" blaming a bad shot, getting angry on a 7 pin on a light hit, getting angry/grumpy/surprised on a plaque/weak/ring 10.
To come clear, I'm no pro by no means, represented my country a few times in the european tour and european championship, wanted to become a full time player as a youth but reality came into place and it's just a hobby at this point.
I really do not coming to diss (following your content for quite some time, your transition to sarge easter etc.) but yeah I had to put it out there, try to take the criticism and actually grow from it. If you disagree I would love to get a reply. Keep uploading good content nevertheless 😊
Sarah thank you soooooo much for this!!!! I was saying to myself like “ALL of these could potentially be my biggest bowling ick!” 😂😂😂
P.S. you should’ve said no pun intended after “stay in ur lane bro” lol also don’t say there’s nothing wrong with a 160 avg - there is 🤭 especially after 20+ years in a league and whining has been the only thing consistent with these clowns 😊
You know that the people who leave tape-backings and don't clean up after themselves are the exact people that don't put away shopping carts in the parking lot, so you can't park in a spot, have to drive around the shopping cart, or the worst, the shopping cart rolls into your parked car.
Hi Sarah , awesome video , i think you hit the nail on the head .... looking beautiful, have a great day
2 lane curtesy is not a thing... I left a house who wanted this.
Inconsistent lanes. When you walk in every week and the same lanes play completely different each week. Tired of bringing in 5 balls because we can't get the lanes to play the same ever.
The people that freakout kick ball returns, yell, have meltdowns, bring teams down, etc
Bowling lanes that breakdown all the time, old pins that are broke, lack of care in investing back into the bowling alley, etc.
Powders... Keep your powders to yourself (slide, rosin etc...) i dont use them and i dont need them on the approach or the score table.
Hey- So, I don't bowl. (obviously here for the entertainment). But you mentioned practice. Can you program the pin-lifter thing just to set up spares?
some pinsetters you can but not all
Here is the most annoying thing in bowling history that will annoy anyone who cares about their game, score, or bowling itself. When anyone especially those not new to the game, insist on standing on the lane and staying there when they are not up and throwing their shot, nor even have a ball in their hand
This!!!! Well said. Its bad enough during scoring. Its even worse during practice. The pinsetter hasnt even finished cycling, here they go standing there with the ball in hand ready to go when you can take your shot and be out of their way.
Speak Sarah !! I agree
Only from experience, but beyond being called a sandbagger in league (I’m literally just inconsistent), just not getting handshakes after a match. One team was that bitter about it and did exactly that, and it’s not even a serious league lol.
RE: the Icks
1) Yup people suck. If you invited people to you house to play Monopoly and they kicked chairs and threw potato chips around after landing on Boardwalk and owing $2000, you'd say "Oi! Stop it!" Same goes for bowling centers.
2) While I agree in principle, two lane courtesy should be a league by league decision. Ideally, everyone would use the PBA double-jump rules, but that's another level. Some leagues bowl for decent money and I can understand why folks want some wider courtesy... each league needs a rule and the balls to stick to it.
3) Unsolicited advice is another grey area. Sometimes it's good. Sometimes it's bad. This is a personal responsibility issue... if you don't like what someone is suggesting, you should tell them. They will probably stop and you can move on with your life.
4) Agreed. If you're not a pro yourself, shut up unless someone has asked you for guidance.
5) Also agreed. Even if the rack is out of spec and the oil machine is malfunctioning, you should find a way to score as best you can. If you can't hack it, shut up.
6) Agreed again... learn how to get the ball through the pins.
7) While I totally believe there is such a thing as "new-ball-carry", it is true that if your fundamentals suck then you will too.
8) Practice is key... well said.
9) Preach, sister.
10) Personal responsibility again. You should keep specs and drill sheets for your own stuff. If not, shut up and start from scratch.
Good video!
Life lessons , these can be applied in all aspects of life. Great video. Please make a blooper video of all the edits in the last 2:30 of the video. I was laughing because it was almost stop animation. 👍✌️
I disagree with#2, respectfully. I openly admit that I drift about one board and I do have a small leg kick. However, there are some people who have massive leg kicks, or they tend to do a small slide/step after they release the ball. So if I drifted a board or so and that person does take post release step/slide we may run into each other. I rather wait the extra couple of seconds before I go
2 lane courtesy is basically someone is bowling on lane 15 so lane 13,14,16,17 can't go
One lane is lanes to the direct left and right of you can't bowl
Omg this is exactly how I feel
I have watched your content since you created your channel and I’m a great big fan. I’d love to bowl even for fun and helpful advice from you. And this is perfect, as I agree with each and every one. And in the same exact order. Last week on my Thursday league the team vs us had a 71 year old man who is dealing with depression and forgot his meds. So in his delusion he thought my elder teammate would cut him off, and started an altercation. My teammate barely got out of his seat for his turn, so that was totally unjustified. League will deal with him tomorrow
I concur 👍
I’ve never felt something more spiritually impactful than #5; drives me insane when people are so closed minded about themselves
Seen this one a lot on TH-cam lately. People who celebrate every strike like its their first and don't stay in their lane while doing so.
Preach!
Two more icks:
1. People who consistently put their towel or shami on top of your bowling ball when they’re bowling at the same time as you.
2. People who use too much easy slide and get it on the lane.
Number 1...definitely. Also...I have one ball in the rack. Eight people on the pair, 11 balls on the return, two in people's hands. Sometimes the ball can't exit the tube because someone is bowling slow and the return is full. I have a spare ball. Normally, it's next to me on the bench or sitting on the thumb hole at the end of the table. When I have to use it, I wait for it come back and take it with me off the return.
Second one is illegal I believe. Can report it to USBC and get all their scores to 0 just like if they threw a ball that was illegal.
Great stuff. One of your best vids. 1 of my icks is sslloooowww play. WTF.
@@peterthebowler _This,_ especially if the slow bowler isn’t even that good. Making me wait longer than I should only for them to likely miss the headpin or go through the face.
@@peterthebowler we call them human rain delays 😂😂😂😂
@sarahbowls lol, im using that! i had to quit a team when 1st bowler sat there on their phone not paying attention, 175 bowler took forever getting on the lane (wandering around) and getting into their stance with a bad case of the shakes, and the anchor who had to adjust their baseball cap 10-15 times while on the approach getting set. OMG, shoot me now. I averaged 15 pins lower than my other leagues.
Settle down Sarah😂😂😂
#7 is true unless we're talking about the purple hammer 😂
And.... the bowler who loves to point out everyone around them who might carry a lucky hit, all the while considering every last shot of their own to be perfect..... no matter how lucky of a hit they too may have gotten.
Diddo several times over!!! Great post.
for me i just go out and have fun on the league i bowle on like the others on my team
Well said !!!!
Love your true thoughts… I agree with all you said… you are fantastic, natural and sooo true…. Aaron from England UK. 😀🎳
Sarah, you can repeat this on the golf course lol
5th and 6th and 8th ones I'm actually gonna deconstruct and kinda psychoanalyze on my channel. So many victims out there. It's like this in competitive gaming too haha
I mean my average is the lowest its been since 2008 but that's because not only is it just my second season being 2handed so I need to be patient with myself, I also need to work upwards of 75 hours a week just to make ends meet currently. Nothing to blame at all, just going though some sh1t.
If a lot of bowling victims took some time and understood that about themselves, they'd be less toxic towards themselves and others.
People who are on their phone when it's there time to bowl. Or people who have to show me every meme on Facebook.
No wonder we don’t bowl together anymore. 😂
The clean up thing is a thing EVERYWHERE. I work in retail, a grocery store specifically, and people are just fucking gross. They do not care or respect employees, they expect others to clean up after them.
Two lane courtesy? Are people smoking crack with that? Gtfo of here.
A couple I've seen personally that drive me insane:
1. People that take a YEAR to throw their ball. I ain't talking about people coming back from the bathroom or something like that. I'm talking about people that take forever WHILE they're on the lane. Like ffs, throw your shot. A fully able bodied person shouldn't take minutes to throw a shot.
2. Over courtesy. What I mean by this is someone will have their ball IN HAND, I'll wait, and they'll say "oh, go ahead". NO, I already committed to allowing you to go first, if you have your ball, throw the damn thing.
Bowling next to people with no bowler courtesy.
Good list but you missed the guy that throws their wrist brace like a kids tantrum after a bad shot. I don’t let these things bother be, I just laugh it off.
Here is my biggest ick, I come in to practice Saturday or Sunday morning, the night before was cosmic bowling, the house didn’t really clean the area, the floor is sticky from spills and lanes not fresh. Thanks for video

my fav ick list
My bowling league sets a 2 lane rule when were bowling. Honestly if u dont though i probably will. Its what i grew up as a kid being told so it just stuck with me. Other than that im with u on all these. I get furious if i see people kick the ball return. Iv yelled to them before "its not the ball rerurns fault you suck"
My ick aside from the unsolicited advice is the people who showboat. I know someone who watches his ball down the lane and always has some reaction as the ball reaches the pins cause he thinks it'll strike every time. Hes a great bowler. But, it always drives me crazy because, you still have a lane to your left and/or right. Throw your shot. Bowl your best. Move on
Not everyone is looking just to see if they strike. Many are watching to see where their ball exits the pins on the pin deck. There is a lot of information about your shot according to where/how it leaves the deck that can help you with adjusting your shot.
people who take like 30 seconds or more before threw the ball . And people end up in my lane after threw the ball
I feel when you got to number six, you just needed to rant on about other people and let out your frustration. I think that is totally fine and everyone has a time and your just addressing it.
The 2 lane…. AHHHHHHHHHH. Thank god someone said it. It’s so dumb in leagues bro, like I’ll give it if someone gives it to me but literally I don’t understand. Why are we doing this. And the cleaning!!! I’m constantly cleaning up after people, I always hear ‘leave it, it’s not your job…’ no but this is like my 2nd home lol. Clean up after yourselves, ya mom ain’t here to do it for you, bro wtf.
@@sadie.jm19_bowling the two lanes BOILS MY BLOOD 😭😭😭😭
@@sarahbowlsgirl you’ve seen my facial expressions, I’m sure you can just imagine when they get mad I don’t give them 2🤣🤣 there’s a few people who I will make an exception for but if your average is lower than mine and you’re out here throwing Christmas trees every other shot… no sir. You get nothing.
What’s your definition of 2 lane curiosity? I don’t care about standing on the approach at the same time, but if someone starts stepping the same time I do, it distracts me. I can’t help it, maybe I’m observant, maybe I have ADHD, I’m only asking for 5 seconds if we’re both standing there. Idk, maybe it’s because I’m a hunter, but if I see things around me moving it draws my eyes away from my target.
My ICK, btw, is the person that sets their feet, raises the ball, then just stands there and focuses for like 30 seconds. It’s your turn.. throw the fn ball.
Have you had some one tell you to stay off there line and bowl on a another part of the line
😅....👍
2 lane courtesy! Lolol no! I don't care if I get any courtesy I'm fine! But single lane is respectful.
I really hate when I'm on the approach getting ready and the person on the lane next to me backs up into my way after throwing their ball. Turns around, sees me there and says "sorry man." F off dude!
Good lord how true all of this is. I haven’t smoked in over 12 years now I need a cigarette!
I hate when other league start late should be 430 not almost 5 and when they finish they dont get out after 7 cause my league start at 7 they dont care and leave a mess of powder on table should be clean befor other league use i talk to president other league he saw it he walk a away i got other bowler that came back told to keep area clean before leave he did i told the desk about it
People that try to put every ball they own on the rack
Complains about unsolicited opinions while giving unsolicited opinions. 😂 Just can't make this stuff up. 😂
advice and opinions are two different things & the catch here is…. you clicked on the video and chose to listen😂😂😂

Good video. Your #9 is my #10. League night can generate a lot of trash, don't be a pig.
2 Lane Courtesy is the worst …
One thing that has bothered me a lot over the past year is bowlers throwing their rags or pads on my ball... dude don't. I don't know what the fuck is on your rag/pad.
Haven't seen anyone kick a ball return since the 80's, and I anchor a team of guys who are in their twenties. Guess I just bowl with better people now. Can't believe people are still so obnoxious.
New balls strike.....idc what she says lmfaooooo
no one asked you lol
@sarahbowls that's a fact....no1 asked me......also a fact that new balls strike more lmfaooo but I hear ya.....buying new balls ain't gonna fix a person's problems lmao
Constantly breaking down lanes.
But Sarah, the unsolicited advice is part of your garnishing the attention on your channel. You could also turn off the comments.
A worse player trying to coach a superior player.
This is a product of people who think. They should have a trophy for showing up to the event. You sound like you might have been born in the wrong generation. God bless you lady.
I don't understand your #7 ick. If someone chooses to spend their money on new balls (whether the rest of that part the rant was true or not), why do you care? It literally doesn't affect anyone else, or you didn't explain how it affected you. Sounds like that's one of those "Stay in your own lane." icks.
I quite literally couldn't care an ounce less what anyone spends their money on.... that was the whole point of the rest of the explanation lmfao
@sarahbowls cool. If you say so.
