This adjustment totally worked on my vintage Kelvinator (which was building up with too much ice inside and you could actually see the light leaking out from the door). Thank you!
This was extremely helpful thank you! I have a 1952 Philco that was gapping at the bottom of the door handle side. I was able to tweak straighten the door and pull it in closer.
Justin this was just the video I needed. Thank you!. The bottom corner on my '49 Westinghouse had a gap. I pinched a couple of rolls of electric tap in the top and pulled the bottom in with a ratchet strap. I wanted more control over the racking. It isn’t perfect, but the paracord or ¼ inch foam behind the "e" gasket might lift it up enough to seal.
Today i replacing my 1950 fridgidaire by GM door Gasket. Wish me luck and thanks for the video. I wish i can send you pictures when its done. Cheers bud
Thanks! This is so important and often overlooked. It's surprisingly how easy the doors are to bend / wrack! First time I did that it was 2X worse in the other direction afterwards LOL! That Frost King gasket is similar to the M-D closed-cell weatherstrip from Lowe's or Home Depot. I like the white version for the early Frigidaire cabinets since they had a white canvas gasket from the factory.
i found some peel and stick foam (not solid rubber) gasket material . about 1/4 inch thick by 3/8 wide . stuck it to my deteriorated and flattened fridge gasket , and it solved my issues . made by frost king , i believe .
Hi, I have an antique refrigerator Frigidaire (assumed model number is 834-62-702) made in Australia by GE. I have what you spoke about in your video a door that closes on the top but gasps towards the bottom. I think that it could be adjusted by readjusting the hinges, but don't know how. Have you any suggestions or maybe another video where you explain how to do so?
Hey Justin, fellow Justin here. I just picked up a 1950's frigidaire GM fridge (Model AS-38). I'd like to replace the worn gasket, but I'm not sure if the door insulation is safe to be around. Do you have any idea if asbestos was used in appliances during this time?
Thankyou, this is very helpful, I have a question about putting the freezer door spring is mounted and how to put it back. Do you sell vintage parts? Thankyou
I can't speak for the gasket in the video, but for the "e" shaped gasket I used a speed square and one of those disposable box cutters with the blades that break off. I got that blade red hot and cut it holding the gasket against the square. After that I clamped a large framing square to a table, held the corners together and ran the hot knife between them causing them to melt and weld together. You can then use the hot knife to fine tune it or even melt in a small scrap to fill a smale gap/hole.
Help! Replaced gasket on 1948 Frigidaire, the new one wraps over the old one, and now I can't get the door to shut. I keep tweaking it but can't figure out what it wrong. It took so much patience and work to get the new gasket on. Any suggestions?
@@Vintage55Restorations it is this model FGM5597 FGM5597 Frigidaire Gasket antiqueappliances.com and it wraps around the old hard gasket that hooks into the door. Of course there is no instruction or videos for it that I can find. It all fits on well, just won't close. It may be in the hinges or if the door isn't straight, like you showed in your video.
I had a 20-30yr old fridge that came with my house and i was having issues with freezer gasket leaking. No adjustment of course. Found gasket online to replace. 200+ bucks for just the freezer side. SMH! Its like people used to build fridges to last but now make them disposable products!
You rule! I have a 1950 Philco...door was out of whack. Tweaking it the way you did, like a car door adjustment, worked like a charm!!! Thank-you
Thanks, Justin. I appreciate the refresher course! 1980 graduate of AC/Refrigeration.

Terrific video. Thank you!!

Exactly what I needed. Thanks, Justin!

I put a new gasket on my fridge and was having to body slam it to get it to close. Thank you!

how about a vid on how to miter the corners on new gaskets?

I need a new gasket for my Borg Warner Norge side by side freezer I believe from 1953
How do you change a vintage ge door gasket..
I have an old fridge with a metal or probably an aluminum pull down handle. The handle broke off is there anything you would use to reattach it?
What is a para cord? I might need that for my 58 GE, because the seal is only improperly fitting at the top.
I have a 1946 Philco refrigerator. Not sure about the correct gasket to buy. Any suggestions?

You can’t put a new one over an old one. You have to remove it. It’s too thick
