আমরা পুরানো সিনেমা কিম্বা পুরানো জমিদার বাড়ি আবার কখনো রাজ-রাজাদের সংগ্রহশালায় গিয়ে অহরহ দেখতে পাই পুরানো ঘড়ির নিদর্শন। হ্যাঁ তখন কিন্তু কোনো ঘড়িই ব্যাটারির ছিল না। সেগুলো ছিল দম দেওয়া সব দারুণ দারুণ আকৃতির ঘড়ি। দেওয়াল ঘড়িগুলো নক্সা করা বার্মা কাঠ কিম্বা আরো দামি সব কাঠ দিয়ে বানানো এক একটা নিদর্শন। কিছু কিছু ঘড়ি আবার পেন্ডুলামের। সেসময় বিত্তশালী মানুষেরা ব্যবহার করতেন সোনার পকেট ঘড়ি আর এই সোনার পকেট ঘড়িগুলো আটকে রাখা হত কোটের সোনার বোতামের সাথে। বোঝা যায় তাদের মধ্যে একটা ফ্যাসিনেশন ছিল এই ঘড়ি নিয়ে। এমনকি কিছুকাল আগেও বিয়েতে যৌতুক হিসাবে এইচ এমটির (hmt) দম দেওয়া হাত ঘড়ি দেওয়া হত বরকে, ভাবা যায়? এখন দম দেওয়া সব ঘড়ি অতীত। এখন বাজারে এসেছে নানা রকমের ব্যাটারির ঘড়ি, স্মার্ট ওয়াচ, ডিজিটাল ঘড়ি। আবার এখন ঘড়ি অনেক সস্তায়ও পাওয়া যায়। কিন্তু এখনও অনেক পুরানো মানুষ আছেন যারা সেইসব পুরানো ঘড়ির ফ্যাসিনেশন ধরে রেখেছেন যুগের পর যুগ। খারাপ হয়ে গেলে সারাতে যান শখের ঘড়ি নিয়ে রাধাবাজার মার্কেটে। আজ তারই কিছু চিত্র আমরা দেখতে পাব এবং শুনতে পাব তাদের ঘড়ির ইতিহাস।
