The comparison video with the 149 would be a good idea. See how those two match. The link / deal you used to buy this pen is still available? Can you share?
Thank you for the informative video! I possess some Pilot pens, the biggest issue is the size of their converters. The amount of ink that they can hold is VERY minimalistic, if you are a strong writer, you must fill them very often. I do like how they put the converter in that pretty metal enclosure though! It looks at best the Pro Gear King of Pen transparent. So the best way to go with them is to buy the fine (or extra-fine if you will) nib, or if you just use the pen to sign documents ....
Another excellent review. Thank you. I find the comparisons with other pens particularly informative. I love the Parker Centennial and the MB 149, and I will add the Pelikan M-1000. Those larger pens fit my hands very well. (I do not have large hands. I have service-connected disabilities in my hands, so holding small pens comfortably is difficult for me.) The large nibs allow me to "paint" letters onto paper, rather than writing them. (Your writing is warp speed compared to mine.) I had been considering buying a Sailor 1911L. But now I see the King of Pen would suit me so much better. Affording a KoP ... well, ... that is a problem I must work out!
I agree with most you said. The use of bigger pens is not necessarily related with the size of the hands. I see bigger pens are better for some kind of disabilities. This pen is very good. The 1911L is not much smaller. I would advice to wait and keep searching. Sometimes there are pens in special editions, like this one, that do not sell completely and, at some point, are sold with bid discount. That was how I bought this one.
I recently got my first KOP, also in a medium nib. I’ve owned in excess of over 200 pens at all price points, and the KOP may truly be the best out-of-the-box writer. This one is a beautiful colour. Enjoy!
Congratulations on the good deal! I like the way the nib applies the ink to paper. It reminds me of the fine nib on my Custom 74 (the up strokes are drier than the down strokes). I love the character it gives my writing.
That pen looks like a challenge to light properly! I found myself wondering how I would handle it. Your solution was very good! Also interesting about the inner cap. I've only seen something like that on Platinum 3776 pens. I also appreciate that that provided ink windows to see the ink level in the converter. Thank you for showing this. A Sailor King of Pen is on my "someday" list. And I really like the color on this one. And a surprising amount of flex on that nib. None of my Sailor pens have any flex.
It is a challenge. But I use one of those Lume Cube lights with a snoot to direct the light, almost directly to the camera, without spilling much light into the phone camera lens. About the flex... It has flex, but I pressed a little bit to get it. There is some natural line variation while writing with no pressure. But pressing a bit we can get that bigger line variation. But I don't do it every time.
Thank you for the review. I got a fair deal on the KOP Pro Gear model, but I love the acrylic one. Perhaps one day I will find a similar deal. I agree with you with regard to the converter. There are just too few in circulation to justify a 3rd party manufacturer to produce a converter, at least that is what I would guess.
Wonderful pen. As to Daniel DeFoe running out, I've been using Diamine Safari and it's a really really great ink. The colour seems to be close enough to MB DeFoe, it is very well behaved, and much easier (and cheaper) to get.
Thank you for the suggestiom. I need to check that one. Meanwhile I have the Diamine Wagner. Not the same as this one, but close enough for me to like it.
@@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita Then I think you'll love Safari. It's much more saturated than Wagner, and offers tremendous shading. Much closer (from what I've seen) to Montblanc DeFoe, and very affordable.
Certainly is a beautiful pen and I like the way Sailors write but the small ink capacity of their converters hold me back. I'm with you -- they really need to address this at least for their larger, premium pens.
My big question about the Pelikan M1000 is (besides the price) how the nib performs. I know it is different than other Pelikan nibs. So I would need to test one before. This behaves like a Sailor and I already knew the feeling! 😁

Not anymore... There were only 2 when I bought this one and it sold out even before I received it.
Thank you for the informative video!

As someone who enjoys the process of refilling pens I don’t mind the small ink capacity

You are right it does that effect. But I like it. I love Sailor nibs.

Do the video comparing with the montblanc. That would be cool!
😁 I will!
That Sailor nib is gorgeous. The luster of the gold alloy and the depth of stamped scroll work make it look a class above 149's nib.
It is very, very beautiful. And I'll show them side by side when I make that video comparing the two.

@@pedrojpinto I'll buy a bottle the next time I make a purchase from a pen store!
omg: thanks for reviewing this pen - what a beauty: going to get me one of these some day!:)
It is amazing, yes...

That is the only (besides price) issue with this pen.
Nice enough but I think I'd rather have an M1000...

Glad you liked it!
