It's funny - Raphael's voice actor has no training in singing, but they just had him try making a recording of the song they were working on, and he nailed it so spectacularly that they went with it.
I mean considering the effort voice actors go through to train themselves to have mastery over their own voice, it makes a lot of sense for them to be deceptively good at singing.
Although he's a Devil, in his human form he retains the appearance of (when taking a closer look at his clothing) a Bard. He's singing a song to make you doubt your choices, and tear down your confidence in battle.
To answer some questions; Obviously the male line is Raphael's VA singing, but the female lines are actually Hope. You can figure this out because if either of them die before the fight ends, I'm fairly certian their lines stop playing
It's not just if they're dead but if they're incapacitated in any way during the fight. Raphael kept slipping on an ice field I kept making so his lines kept getting cut off. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't of realized he was actually singing
I was playing a OH Monk. At the start of the fight I flew (Illithid Power) over to him and stunned him. I never heard his voice lines at all until I watched this video. Literally me: HE SINGS!?!?
This song is the most disney Villain, Tim Burton-esque song I have ever heard and I love it. I felt bad betraying Rafael after listening to it. Fuck...
not just a disney villain, but a golden age disney villain. charismatic, evil, deceptively alluring, complicated back story, a goal with every interaction, he has it all.
Raphael isn't "the" devil, he's just "a" devil. With an inferiority complex. He's the son of Mephistopheles, which makes him royalty, but ... his mum is a mortal, making him a thin blooded cambion. In context, his actions are quite understandable. >
This was possibly my favorite moment ive experienced in twenty years of playing video games. i will never forget the chills i got when i reached this point in the game. Lord of bones monologue was a close second :)
This was a very uncalled for song. LIke, BG3 was already crushing the world, they did NOT need to go this hard. We get it Larion, you are the best ever, chill out!
I am a 44 year old woman who loves playing video games, but never played anything like BG3 before. When this song started, I teared up. It was so amazing. Had to call my daughter afterwards -who introduced me to bg3 - and thanked her for forcing me to play this game already. 😅😍
So true!! They set my expectations so high with this, but then when I got to the last boss, there was no massive culmination of music, visuals, and atmosphere that I was expecting, I was very sad.
I want someone to try out for a show like American Idol or The Voice or America's Got Talent and have them perform this song as their first debut, and if they make it to another round then perform Down By The River, and in another later round perform I Want To Live. It would be awesome!
Oh wow, I watch your film reactions all the time & thrilled to see your playing this banger of a game. This song just stops people in their tracks, the actor who plays Raphael deserves so many props not just for this song but his whole scenery chewing performance. This song and the Dame Aylin bit are my two fav moments & I can't get enough of watching ppl experience for the first time.
Fun fact: if you cast silence during the combat they stop singing according to who you're silencing and if you silence both, you will hear only the instrumental parts
when i got to this fight, and it started, and the song came on...I leaned back in my chair in tears. I was blown away by how beautiful it was. I love Baldurs Gate man, its so much fun. So well made....(this is my favorite song from the game)
I just got to this fight last night, wow!! My theory is the womans voice is Hope, Raphael vs Hope in the house of hope, i had her use divine intervention and she died from the reverse damage, AND RAPH HAS THE GALL TO SAY "now you are truly Hope-less" bro
the song starts again if you load from the middle of the fight and ngl I did just that just to hear the song again a few more times, I was having goosebumps when I first entered the fight and heard it.
When a succubus sings about hell and its master. And he joins in. Because he's not just any demon, no, he's a bardic demon. And I can't explain it, but it was the first time I've ever had the feeling of awe to experience something like this in front of an imaginary video game character.
A little fun thing about this fight, if you use the Silence spell on Raphael his line's in the song stop. He's literally singing this while you're fighting him.
The woman singing is Hope. This song gives a total Danny Elfman vibe. When I heard this song on my first playthrough it convinced me to give Raphael the crown my second run through. 🙌
Fun fact: If you cast silence on Raphael during this part he stops singing. Not sure why you would want to silence this amazing performance, but you can. The devs thought of that.
2nd playtrough, durge, diving into the house of hope just to get this scene irl once more "I want to live" by Borislav Slavov if you want more of her voice :D
I just did this fight on my first play through. Embarrassed to say I got like 300 hours just from act 1 and 2 lol I would get bored and make a new character, different class. Never used withers but I digress, this fight had me on edge!! It took me about 2 hours to do lmao so worth it though
Best thing about it? Dude's not even a full Devil, he's a Cambion(Half mortal). However his drive an ambition to surpass his father Mephistopheles is unmatched
It's funny. I enslaved him with a binding spell so he was on my team.. Then the fight ended cause he was the last enemy alive but he was friendly. Then the spell wore off and the song started again.
He's a devil. He'll sing of your demise as he fights you because he knows this is but a farce, you're a but a mere speck and you've already lost. Raphael has made me like the devil motif in DnD again. I'mma steal that for any who might play any game I run. 😁
I've seen better villains than Raphael. but he certainly gets points for singing his own villain song in the fight. And for being in general a magnificent bastard.
I've heard that if you cast Silence on Raphael, he doesn't sing his lines during the song. It's things like these that make BG3 one of the best games ever made.

The funniest part that right after that goes Raphael's singing "No more deals, it's over..."))
I want this song to be performed live at this year’s Game Awards
me too!!
@@varycherry If you nominate me to music direct, I'll happily orchestrate my remix:

YES! PLEASE!
So crazy that both this and Alan Wake 2 got good music to use there and then both can win awards too because they are both so damn good games :)
I want this song to be performed live at my funeral.
Raphaël loves himself so much that he sings in his own boss fight song
you can silence him and his parts will actually be muted during the song too
I stole his two journels when he was in the last light he was scared of a dream he mentions but rallies himself to carry on with his plans
What did the journals say he was scared about in the dream@@terryroberts5309
Although he's a Devil, in his human form he retains the appearance of (when taking a closer look at his clothing) a Bard. He's singing a song to make you doubt your choices, and tear down your confidence in battle.
Raphael's class is probably Bard.
Heard it a hundred times and it still gives me goose bumps
To answer some questions; Obviously the male line is Raphael's VA singing, but the female lines are actually Hope. You can figure this out because if either of them die before the fight ends, I'm fairly certian their lines stop playing

@lechecbb he'll also go quiet if you cast Silence on him
I was playing a OH Monk. At the start of the fight I flew (Illithid Power) over to him and stunned him. I never heard his voice lines at all until I watched this video.
Literally me: HE SINGS!?!?
IT'S DIAGETIC?!?! Holy hells this song just gets better and better
Or if they get silenced!
You know you fucked up when the boss is singing their own theme song.
This song is the most disney Villain, Tim Burton-esque song I have ever heard and I love it. I felt bad betraying Rafael after listening to it. Fuck...
By Tim Burton-esque you mean Danny Elfman. He scored many of Burtons films. Burton had the vision but Elfman brought it to life.
@@mulqueen2023 sure.
Raphael is SOOOO much a classic Disney villan and WE ALL LOVE IT
not just a disney villain, but a golden age disney villain. charismatic, evil, deceptively alluring, complicated back story, a goal with every interaction, he has it all.
@@gamero31o That's why I used word "classic"
If you cast Silence he stops singing and an orchestral version continues
Attention to detail ❤
Same as with the Harpies in Act 1. If you interrupt the singing harpy, the voice stops, and just the background instrumentals keep going.
That isn't true 😢
Raphael isn't "the" devil, he's just "a" devil. With an inferiority complex.
He's the son of Mephistopheles, which makes him royalty, but ... his mum is a mortal, making him a thin blooded cambion.

He is no Gaunter o dimm 😉
@@DJKurohwell. It was THE spell lol
@@DJKurohTbh, it was SPELL that kills you. Raphael>Lich Vlaakith.
@@eagleye2893 HUH?! absolutely not, Vlaakith is way stronger than Raphael. Raphael isn't even specifically strong for a devil.
Baldurs Gate 3 didn't have to go this hard for a somewhat secret boss battle... but they did. And it is glorious!!
This was possibly my favorite moment ive experienced in twenty years of playing video games. i will never forget the chills i got when i reached this point in the game. Lord of bones monologue was a close second :)

You obviously did a good job with your daughter and therefore deserve all of this.
This fight and song feels more last boss than the true last boss
So true!! They set my expectations so high with this, but then when I got to the last boss, there was no massive culmination of music, visuals, and atmosphere that I was expecting, I was very sad.
My impression was that Raphael was supposed to be the finale for Act 3, and then there would be a whole Act 4 in the true upper portion of the city.
@@Ghettofinger yeah the final fight was so underwhelming, it felt more rushed to get to the absolute instead of actually fighting anyone
Characters standing around asking "Are we're gonna do this fight or not?"
Tav "Shush! I'm enjoying the music!"
"What in the Disney are we playing?!"
See - we THOUGHT that Auntie Ethel was the Disney villain...we were half right.
Raphael is the Disney Villain.
Ethel is Fairy Godmother
The song that means " oh you done did it now"

This whole section made me fall in love with Raphael. It almost makes me sad I had to end his hellish reign.
Best song in heaven or hell
true
he sings his own song because of his pride what a well written character
The female singer is Mariya Anastasova, the same that did the "Down By The River" character creation song.
she's amazing!
I’m so glad I got to see this all by myself, no guide, just explored and played out options and boom “LIVES ALL MORTAL LIVES!”
I'm glad SOME developers learn about boss design from the Almighty Poo

That's exactly what it is. The woman is Hope. The man is Raphael. It's not a theory.
@ThunderTaco206 I've been told otherwise, saying its her sister but I haven't tested it
Raphael moonlights as an opera singer
Absolutely LOVED THIS!!! I was so pleasantly surprised when the battle started.
the song starts again if you load from the middle of the fight and ngl I did just that just to hear the song again a few more times, I was having goosebumps when I first entered the fight and heard it.
One of my favorite things is that If you go back and play the game again, you'll notice that this song plays anytime he is on screen in a cutscene.
Whaaaaaat?? That's nuts. And cool.
When a succubus sings about hell and its master.
And he joins in.
Because he's not just any demon, no, he's a bardic demon.

It made so much sense for Raphael to sing his own boss theme 😂
Mary was REALLY feeling this for some reason. Lol. Imagine if she broke into song. 🤣🤣🤣
I was not expecting a Disney musical number but I was pleasantly surprised.
I wonder if the purpose for this song has to do with inspiration from Faustus and Mephistophiles, the opera.
Listened to this song to get hype before firing somebody 😌
This nearly made my entire game when this started playing what a great surprise!
Maaaaan. This game's soundtrack was nothing but 100% certified bangers.
For me personally it’s the best boss fight theme of all time. And close second is the Lilith Bossfight of Diablo 4 it’s also absolutely insane.
"i dont wanna fight, you're talented" xDDD
A little fun thing about this fight, if you use the Silence spell on Raphael his line's in the song stop.
He's literally singing this while you're fighting him.
This was the moment I was glad I brought the deluxe edition that included the soundtrack
I got the deluxe edition and found the in game items, but how do I get the album? Do I have to download it from stream somewhere?
Go into the Baldur's Gate 3 folder, then open the digitaldelux folder and there should be a folder names OST - that's the sound track@@elmatilda
I can understand her cause i had the same reaction, in my next gameplay ill just simp him and give him the crown and everything he wants :P
it really says something about how many people make reaction videos to their first encounter to the music at this fight
That's what an Evil Bard looks like
Little did she know the music kept going
Boris Slavov killed it with this song.

It's one of the best parts of the game before he even starts singing
I wonder how many people realised the female singer is Hope.
I only regret one thing about listening this song when i fought raphael, its not gonna be a first time listening it nevermore 😢
