I'm ASE certified heavy duty diesel mechanic, I had a 6.7 cummins a while back in the shop doing the samn thing, replace number 5 injector and fixed the issue. Definitely sounds like a bad injector/fuel knock to me from the video! Use computer or find someone and do a injector cut out test and check the pulse widths on it. Very good looking Ole cummins by the way, hope I help some!
If you are still blowing white smoke, I'd say it is an injector. You can also check by taking off the valve cover and while it's idling, unplug the wire off the injector, one at a time and if the idle doesn't change or changes, when it doesn't, that's the injector that may be bad.
Bro, not sure how you do it. I did my 2nd gwn swap those weekend, thanks for the reply to the emails man it helped. I had trouble with my hot pipe and my exhaust too. Just running down pipe and its loud and obnoxious. Still have some issues with the truck to try to figure out what is wrong with it. I hope you get yours fixed soon brother!
to me that sounds like injector knock so you might have a bad injector. who knows what could have happened when that turbo blew apart and sent shit through the intake manifold.
I still think WCFab makes the best swap down pipe is a stubby 4 inch that goes from the high mount turbo to there the factory down pipe V band clamp is no cutting or replacing clamped right onto my 5 inch down pipe
I did a smeding diesel 2nd gen swap on my 2018 the hotside pipe among other fitment issues ac lines and coolant reroute and reservoir relocation eventually went to evil fab kit they use a 2 piece hotside pipe with 1 vband and 1 vanjen 👍
The oil you saw coming out from cylinder 5 & 6 was very concerning. Does it still smoke? That oil had no reason to blow back from the exhaust since the engine was still running. You need to start asking yourself if perhaps you had a motor issue that led to the turbo failure or if the turbo failure led to a new motor issue. How wet was your intake shelf when you removed the cap to install the banks kit? You may have a cracked piston which would blow oil back to the rear most cylinders. That oil could cause a turbo overspeed situation.
i don't believe it got that bad. Truck does not smoke no longer after initial start when it burned off the left over oil. clean idle, no smoke just the fuel knock sound.
I agree with several people here. 1. Injector maybe soaked in oil. I think you took ur stock fuel filter off ur block. You might want to pull ur filters off and fill them with Seafoam. 2. Take a long screwdriver n put metal side on head in 6 different spots at least, put the handle in ur ear. If it’s a bad pushrod, valve or lifter you will hear it. 3. I don’t like the alternator hot wire connection on your hot tube. You should have clearness. Good luck.
it sounds like # 5 valve lifter. it might be 5 or 6 injector. check your injector lines from the fuel rail. try some hotshots for the fuel. just throwing ideas for you . other then that she looks sweet!
Every time I hear that plap plap plap I end up with a Melted piston because of a injector and I try to ( make it home ) I have been through 3 engines testing my luck.... Very stressful though . Everytime it was number 5 injector failur then shortly after melted pistons . That plap plap plap sound gives me Nightmares 😂 a contribution test will tell you
Hi grate channel one thing you should think about as well with all the unburnt oil coming out of pot 5&6 when you took the ext manifold off this unburnt oil could of bent a rod may be check this as well let hope it a injector
I can’t find the answer to this question anywhere do u have to get special tuning for a 2g swap or can I just run it on the same tune I had before the swap
Them smart chargers suck they won’t charge with a battery that has been discharged to much and that’s when you need the old chargers that will charge anything!!
So just wondering. I saw either on here or insta that you put in diesel extreme, but have you tried doing like an actual clean on the injectors. Like either filling the fuel filter with seafoam (I know) or taking the injectors out and using a solvent made for them to soak and clean them… might be worth a try before replacing them… just a thought since so much oil went through the system…
so yes!! i know exactly what your talking about. I got 6 new injectors I'm putting in, once they are in Im gonna make a video show how to do a hot soak using seafoam. Lot of people don't know about it and it is effective. Thank you for the comment!
I had a stuck injector on a cat 7.2 that sounded like yours. I filled the fuel filter with 2 stroke oil then fired it up and within seconds it cleared right up
Love ur videos been watching a lot lately because i might be trading my 12v for an 09 6.7. Its got kinda high miles fully deleted.and has race me tuner. 80 over injectors stock vgt turbo 5 inch exhaust. But over all prety clean has banks monster ram too. Is there anything i should mainly look for on these trucks. I know vgt is an issue and that pesky no charge issue. Which he is having truck is in shop right now possibly getting new ecm. ?
no charge issue can be from bad battery cables. those 3rd gen cables are trash highly recommend replacing. Overall just look for general issues. suspension, weird noises etc. as for the engine check for blow by when cold. hook a code reader up too.
Valve adjustment should fix it, push rods probably wouldn’t hurt at that mileage either, stock ones bend over time, might not be much but enough to keep messing up lash. Also would’ve suggested flushing your intercooler after blowing the old turbo. It’s gonna have possible fragments and oil in there you don’t want in the intake
Sounds like a fuel knock to me, listening through the camera at least. I'd start with retorquing the injector feed tube lock nuts, that'll cause some nasty noises. If it's around the CP3 maybe pop a new MPROP in, they get noisy when they're going out. I went through this before I finally got some BBI injectors
thank you for the insight! I will be replacing the cp3 here in a month or so too with a 12mm. I don't hear any noises coming from it. I believe one of the injectors is cashed out.
I was thinking the tick was cause your downpipe ain’t connected and so it’s essentially blowing exhaust air through it halfway and then outward halfway…
Cam this suck! I know the knock is from something in the engine hopefully nothing big. When I did my 2nd gen swap mine felt down on power and when I changed my t**e 😊 to a different person it woke up!! Just saying! Hope it’s just from sitting. How long did you run her after the turbo blew
Make sure it isnt something going on with that fan clutch conversion you did, it sounds external to me......check the pulleys, make sure something isnt banging in to something else, like that disconnected down pipe hitting the existing exhaust, good luck bro....youll figure it out😁
I saw that you have a check engine light. You're probably going to have to clean all of your sensors on the intake horn. I Believe there's a map for air pressure or something sensor up there. I would also clean the coil heater 😆 And then you're going to probably want to run some fuel injector cleaner, fuel system treatment. I think BG and also arch oil make a really good system treatment and stanydine if you want to run it consistently. Because I bet when that turbo went it sprayed the inner cooler with oil. So unless you want to take that out and clean it with I think mineral spirits will get it out of there without hurting the aluminum. It's really cool that you have it running though. What are your codes for the check engine light? I think you're choppy noise. Is that the exhaust is getting split part of it is going into the exhaust system that you have and coming out the tailpipe but some of its hitting and getting bounced off pipe edge pushing up and hitting the firewall cuz I noticed it was making racket too but it's probably because you don't have the exhaust system fully hooked up. So part of the pulse is going straight into the firewall could be hitting something and causing the noise as it would be in pulses like lifter etc and more pressure with increased rpm😂
Sounds like a bad injector try doing a cylinder cut out to confirm that. As far as the alternator Try to find a company who can build you an alternator to relocate to the positive wire on the alternator. Having the wire right up against the tube is a bad thing eventually the post on the alternator will rub through the boot and then will have bigger problems. Let me know how you make out with that.
