      God for you Konner! It takes gut a plenty for a 15 year old to do that. I've been there, done that & got the battle scars. Kids can be very cruel and rude at that age and they will lash out at anything different or what they don't understand. This is called "Ignorance" and they are the ones who look bad because of it. Just ignore them and pay more attention to the way the girls react to it. I am very sure you impressed a fair few of them as most girls will admire a guy in a kilt and you had guts enough to do it! Remember Prom is coming, they might just ask you! Just wear your kilt that night. Watch USA Kilts How To videos for a good education on Highland wear and Formal Highland wear Rocky, Erick and all the gang will be there to help. Good Luck!!!

      I introduced my children into kilts when they were younger. My son was more than happy getting his photo in the school paper wearing his Irish national kilt to elementary school on St. Patrick's day.

    i have 4 of the casual kilts, the velcro is perfect. and with a belt, it looks great. i feel the velcro is good enough to where my mind, its not coming off or falling down unless i want it to when im taking it off. the casual kilts are so awesome. dont worry about the velcro at all. its fine.

    I've never been able to find an Irish Forde tartan. We (mother was a Ford, dad was adopted, so I trace Ford) We have a Scottish family tartan from, I believe, the mid 1800's, and we generally use the County Leitrim tartan, which I cosign as a slam dunk.

    38:00 wearing sword. Or Women as in state of New Jersey. No fixed blades allowed in state which is a shame for the Bedford flag. RIP old glory or Bill of Rights. 43:00 Running with kilt easy breezy LOL. Waiting for my indecent exposure of my sword that NJ can't take away.

    I do cowboy work boots with my kilts in the summer. I also live well outside the city. I also keep chickens that free range. But I do wear dress shoes when appropriate.

    I have a few questions that might be good for these vids. As someone who loves his Celtic heritage, but only now has gotten the kilt bug, where is the best place to post the questions? Here, your FB page, the kilts & culture page? I already have 1 question on the K&C FB page and gotten great responses, but I figured helping with this channels content would be cool as well.

    • @USAKiltsOfficial
      @USAKiltsOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Email the questions to sales@usakilts.com OR you can post them on the "event page" that we shared in the K & C group on FB. :-) All the content ends up here eventually!

    Is it possible to order the Irish "Paton" tartan for kilt, fly plaid, day plaid etc. ? (I found it in the Scottish Register of Tartans). Or would it have to be custom ordered? I have used Locarron Mill up to now preferred. This is one of the Tartans I would like to do eventually being that it is a variation on my surname. One "T" short, oh well, it happens I guess.

  • @thomaspatton4401
    @thomaspatton4401 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing I am interested in ordering is a Scottish blue Balmoral or Bonnet similar to the one Eric is wearing or a blue Jackobite Bonnet (or both) but I have not seen this as an option on your site. what is the possibility in correcting this oversight?

    My surname is Beaty. Variations Beatty, Batey, Beattie, etc. The only place I've found this is in Clan MacBeth of North America. My understanding is that Clan MacBeth is not a legit Clan per say. My Great Great Grandfather and family immigrated from southern Scotland and Northern Ireland in the 1860's. I haven't been able to find a tartan for Beaty but I did for Beatty. Would it be acceptable to use that tartan as my own. I of course don't want to impede on others but at the same time if I have a kilt made with expense involved I want to have the correct tartan. Your thoughts...?

    • @NuclearHaggis
      @NuclearHaggis 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ignore all that clan tartan nonsense, Tim.
      Before it was banned People wore whatever tartan they wanted or just one solid colour.
      Your ancestors would be rolling their eyes over this ridiculous conversation.

    • @USAKiltsOfficial
      @USAKiltsOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The surname Beatty / Beaty / etc. is a sept of MacBeth. It would be appropriate for you to wear the MacBeth tartan as a sept: www.usakilts.com/advancedsearch/result/?q=beatty

    And also if you want to wear a great kilt and authentically replicate 17th or 18th century garb you should have a jacket as it was pretty rude and uncouth to walk around in just your shirt, akin to walking around in underwear today.
    Also investing in a properly made wool blue bonnet as was mentioned earlier in the video is a good bet.
    Also remember that Scottish fashion didn't exist in isolation and other European styles do creep in.
    Generally avoid the trope of trying to look dirty or rustic, because people even those who weren't wealthy valued their appearance.
    In other words get a period jacket, it can be in a solid muted colour or if you want to really splash out and replicate a slightly wealthier individual individual with a tartan jacket.
    Also worth noting it was considered fashionable in the 18th century to wear more than one tartan, so consider a great kilt with one and a jacket with another. Again that might end up being expensive but if you are looking to be authentic.
    Its important to remember highland dress and tartan was proscribed for several decades after the 45' and when it returned was based on military fashions of the British.
    Also to consider are Trews and even trousers were also worn.
    TL:DR figure out what wealth of individual you want to replicate and do your research. But at the very least get a jacket.

    I have been looking for the Macsavidge clan tartan, my family said that the macsavidge clan was struck off of the registration because we were involved in the fight against the English two hundred years ago and lost, is there still a tartan for us, My uncle Angus who still living in Scotland but comes to America too harass us told me that macsavidge clan was sposta have been asorbed into the MacKenzie clan two hundred years ago

    • @thomaspatton4401
      @thomaspatton4401 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Research it Michael. that is the smartest way to go. If your Uncle Angus is right you could wear either tartan just don't mix them, it's just not done. Pick one Clan to represent. USA Kilts has a tartan finder on their web site also there is the Scottish Tartan Register you could search. If you are wanting to get outfitted USA Kilts can help with that too. Also watch their How To videos and Kilts and Culture for a broader education or at the very least find out things you might not know. Hope this helps, Good Luck!!!
