It's like entering a conversation when you have no idea what the context is. You cannot grok a Sondheim song when you know nothing about the emotional arc of the characters.
Sorry to say this, but I think the problem here is Alexander Gemignani. At best I'd say he's a decent actor, but he's not an enthralling one, not by a long shot. This show needs strong leads, and he just doesn't do it for me.
No, it had a terrific score. The book just never worked. The earlier version of this show called Bounce is also interesting for its score. Some works just never totally come together, I guess.
@@mr.froglegs This John Doyle production from the Public came to London's Menier theatre with a British cast. It was simply sensational. A huge critical success, standing ovations most nights (and we in London don';t do the ritual standing ovation which is the norm on Broadway), it was one of great productions. Sadly it was not filmed..

The last musical I ever loved.
Do you have any more clips from Road Show
Is there a way to see the rest of this proshot?
Is there a way to watch the full production?
Do it for the sonheim fans!!

Gorgeous voice but there's a lack of depth. Its like this with everything he's in
Sounds crappy, doesn't it?

+DavidAsset78 I agree , the score is certainly up to Sondheim's standards
@@DavidAsset78reminds me of Merrily in a way, the way they worked it over and over and it still doesnt work because of the book
@@smurf902 Yeah and now it works.....and you know the book still works and always will and did.
Tedious. Excruciating to sit through. Wasted years of a great talent.
Hard disagree, but everyone's a critic.

@@williamgardiner2010 another amazing production not filmed, what shame.
Agreed. Funerals are more fun. BOUNCE was certainly brighter, livelier.
