My neighbor just bought this kit and came over to ask if I could put a complete round over bearing edge on all the toms and a double 45° edge on the kick and snare. Then we swapped out the heads with coated Remo Ambassadors, and wow were we, especially I was shocked in how huge, round, and pure they sounded. Quicker decay on the toms, but miked up what a difference it made. As for the kick rock attack city USA! The snare much more crack and sensitive. Just an idea if you want to customize your sound. Once again you guys are truly the best most informative drum channel ever. 🥁🤘

Did you also swap the tom heads or just the snare?

I’m not a beginner (I first started drumming when I was around 4 or 5), but I’m on a budget and this is looking like the best bang for the buck out there. I honestly don’t think the cymbals sound bad at all they’re not like the trash can lids that come with kits like the Pearl Roadshow.

@AcePitcher 6 I don’t have hardware or cymbals, so the stage custom birch is entirely out of my budget

I’ve been a drummer for almost a year and I’m definitely gonna get the 8 piece version of this so I can get my metal drumming more refined

I’ve been a guitarist for 8 years and I really wanna get into drums, and I’m thinking of getting this as my first kit. Thanks for the video!

This Tama sounds almost as good as my old Rogers set.

I prefer the coated Remo's to the clear heads...definitely!

Love the review! Meinl hcs are ok cymbals. They do get the job done but we all know zildjan are much better. This drum set is a great package for those who is looking for a complete drum set. Definitely change the heads 👌👍😀

Yeah the cymbals suck. All other Meinl cymbals are great but these are not fun.

My first kit came w these cymbals too, the Gretsch energy. I got new cymbals but I really loved the rest of the kit. It had a virgin bass drum when i got it, which sounds so good :) Pain setting up the toms on the stands but once I got them there it was good for a short chick like me and the bass drum sounds amazing

brass cymbals are awful no matter the brand

I wouldn’t judge cymbals based purely on brand. For instance, Zildjian’s Planet Z cymbals are worse than the Meinl HCS cymbals.

I like these...but for a really amazing tone for not a lot of money, I would go with Gretsch Catalina Birch, Maple, or Mahogany.

Was someone listen to Pumpkins before the video?🤘These sound great. Best choice for the money. I was a Ludwig guy for 2 1/2 decades, but after watching your video on the Tama Star Walnut kit like 20times I've sold my Super Classics 😟. Now it's just a matter of sizes and colors 😄🤘. So thankful for finding your channel. Love it, no egos or additudes just righteous info.

Jetty 1502 do you know. How much this costs?

If I have the cash, would it be worth it to upgrade from this to the Walnut Birch? I’m really thinking about it but I’m not sure how big of a difference it is. Can you shed some light on that please? Thanks!

Andrew! I have the Starclassic Maple kit and I used to own a Swingstar kit (the Imperialstars came out as the replacement for the Swingstars a few years back), it was my first drum kit.
The Swingstar sounded pretty good actually, but definitely there's no point of comparison between the entry level line like the Imperialstar with the high end/professional line like the Starclassic.
The shells are better built, they are constructed with better selected woods (on both options, Walnut/Birch or Maple), better options and quality ended finishes, more sizes on shell add on options, better hardware features (die cast lugs, die cast hoops, star cast suspension system on rack toms, strongest bass drum spurs, wood hoops with matching finish on the bass drum, better claw hooks to tune the bass drum and grab the hoop, strongest brackets and legs on the floor toms, great quick lock memory lock system on all the tom brackets, 10 lugs on the bass drum each side, 8 lugs on the floor toms each side, 10 lugs on the snare each side, starphonic strainer and wires, etc).
If you have the money, you should definitely go for it, all these things will give you not only an incredible sounding kit, but also a great playing feel.
You will feel like in heaven when you get any Starclassic kit. Greetings from Argentina!

Don't be afraid, begginers, novice, semi pros, the Tamas are nicely built, good hardware, great sounds, remember purchase good drum heads for the style of music your playing.

Is Mapex Armory Studioease better than these?

    • @WhyTheHorseface
      @WhyTheHorseface 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I think the mapex has an arguably better bearing edge, but the hardware isn’t included nor the cymbals for a similar price. I think if I was on a budget I’d choose this kit. And I bet if you buy it at DCP they’d help you tune it just right.
