Hi Mark, I’m Brian from Lafayette, Indiana. Little drummer boy is my favorite Christmas song. When you guys recorded it I was so excited and pleased with it. I play it almost everyday during the holidays. I’ve been a fan since the very first Whiteheart album. I also was a year behind Rick at Taylor University and we lived in the same dorm. Merry Christmas and God bless.
Mark, thanks for sharing. This December my wife and I happened to catch Michael McDonald on tour here in Sarasota, Florida and I was absolutely flabbergasted when he introduced his amazing bass player... none other than Tommy Sims. Memories of Whiteheart concerts from years gone by flooded over me... and being Christmastime, I had the Little Drummer Boy front and center on my playlist (as I do every year). This arrangement has meant so much to me over the years. There is something so incredibly worshipful and passionate about it -- not just Rick's vocal (which I'd agree has to be one of his very best), but the intensity of the musical arrangement. You guys brought to life what was previously (in my mind, anyway) just another dead, traditional song. All these years later, it remains not just my favorite Christmas song, but my absolute favorite song of all time. "I played my BEST for him... then He smiled at me..." It reduces me to tears just thinking about it. I've always wanted to say it to you and the rest of the lineup at that time: "Thank you."
I bought the tape back in the day. Actually , bought the song off of iTunes yesterday, now I don't have to constantly rewind it. My favorite song off of that compilation.
Thanks for sharing this story, Mark. I still get chills to this day upon hearing WH's cover. It is the most worshipful version I've ever heard. The passion in Rick's vocal really drives me toward playing MY "drum" - my life and my skills - for the King. Have a blessed Christmas!
That's a great story! Ever since I originally heard this on a Christmas compilation CD, I have never really been able to enjoy any other version or rendition of Little Drummer Boy. Thanks Mark for sharing!
Interesting!! I love behind the scenes stuff about how songs are produced and recorded. Would love to hear more!! Merry Christmas Gersh and Brynn. Looking forward for the upcoming Whiteheart project too.
It's always so interesting to hear stories like these from people! It's even better when you hear that famous artists have the same horror stories as my own! I had spent hours one day sequencing tracks for our tour coming up when my little cousin visited! He was very curious so I showed him the sequencer and keyboards and played a bit for him then I walked out of the room to talk with my Aunt and Grandma - well turns out he hit the power button on the power strip and stupid me had not saved the info yet! Oh well... what do ya do? Cry a bit and get back to work! Love WhiteHeart's music man! It's one of those bands that helped me grow up! Thanks so much for sharing history with us!

TP, I think we all have at least one of these stories! Let's hope that they have taught us to back up regularly. Thanks for your comment. gersh

Well I'm not sure about that Bobby but we are glad that you like it.
