Last Autumn, I flew to Sapporo with a few friends, pick up a rental car and drove around Hokkaido. Beautiful country, fantastic food and beautiful people. Unforgettable trip

Nice video. Brings back memories of when I did a quick stopover trip on way to Europe in mid winter in 2017 but as I only had a few days' time instead of going to Furano I took the Soya main line up north to Wakkanai so I could say i had been to the northern-most point of Japan (Cape Soya) and to the northern-most railway station, and also because like this video I wanted to ride in the little local trains through the deep snowy countryside (especially as JR Hokkaido is in such dep financial trouble that who knows how long lesser parts of their network including northern Soya Line will remain in service). After watching this I will add Furano to hopefully a future Winter trip to Hokkaido (I still need to go out East to Kushiro). I was surprised as I always thought Furano was just a Summer destination. Cool also to see the station used for the movie Popoya. It came out when I was living in Japan for the first time. I never realised where it was actually located. I still have the beautiful theme song on my playlist. Definitely like you would be a big reason for me to go there (along with the onsens). Also it was cool to see you stay at the Nakamuraya Ryokan in Sapporo. Coincidentally this is where I also stayed in 2017 in Sapporo (so closely located to Sapporo Stn and thank goodness as I arrived during a blizzard!) I loved the private little onsen bath and I also selected as part of my booking and thoroughly enjoyed a full traditional Ryokan Kaiseki Ryori dinner meal as well as the great value breakfast the next morning. I would highly recommend this ryokan. Also opposite Sapporo Stn is bookstore chain Kinokuniya which had lots of JR Hokkaido railfan merchandise for those wanting rail souvenirs of their trips to Hokkaido.
