Fun fact: At one point during development, Shenmue was planned to be a highly interactive Virtua Fighter RPG that would tell the story of the fighter Akira Yuki.
@@dalelumina3 I think that's why there TRULY was the "Virtua Fighter RPG", or whatever, on the 6th gen Ps2 and GameCube consoles. I'm not sure about X-Box, since "Game-Passover" is it's favorite Consolised Religious tradition, especially in Japan till this day....., LOL, I like the sound of that! I remember that the Virtua Fighter RPG, with the kid that could interact with every Virtua fighter character in a city and learn any of their moves for a player to player custom amalgamation character (I think that was the game design, since I never owned OR even bothered to emulate the game), kinda like Street Fighter VI's story mode that released a few months ago, ultimately did not review or sell well....That's probably why SF VI took about two decades to make a better received version, and why I never took interest in VF RPG!
I loved that combat in Shenmue wasn’t common but when you did fight, all the training you put in at the parking lot shows. Made me pumped every time I heard the song pick up.

I loved collecting the scrolls, practicing them to increase Ryo's skill with them, then trying them out in battle to see how effective they are. It's such a shame they took this awesome RPG like feature out of 2 & 3. Otherwise I'm almost positive Shenmue 3 would've done better had they not dumbed it down.
@@randybutternubs4647 Amen to that, I'm not even touching Shenmue III till the physical PS4 version (The only console version of Shenmue III, which is OK by me, since Ive lost interest in the X-box console brand) is five, or less, dollars, cause its not worth cheaply buying it online if I'm not, ever, probably going to play it. I've played through Shenmue 1 so many times and have never seen this and that's even when following the diary guide to supposedly get everything... Also just came across a Nozomi fighting vid which I have never seen too... wonder if there is anything else I missed.
There's quite a few hidden cutscenes in Shenmue, but this is the only hidden fight (not including the Nozomi easter egg). Pretty amazing that you can come back to a game made in 99 and still discover new things about it! Best game ever
If someone beats you up like THAT and you say “Damn, not again!” Maybe you should just stop trying to fight this guy, especially since you just saw him K.O. three people with one roundhouse kick.
Right before disc one ends (from 7pm - 11pm) any day after Ine gives you the letter, but before getting on the bus to the harbor the first time. If you follow the trail next to Yagamishi's house to get to Dobuita, there's a space between the buildings you can go to trigger this fight
Actually I found a crazy good tutorial on how the entire combat/combo system works. Instead of me saying basically the same thing, you should check out this video: th-cam.com/video/vmdku1dWgR0/w-d-xo.html
All this is done on disc 1 at the very beginning of the game, you can trigger these cutscenes within the first few days. Step 1: Get the Enoki Tomato Mart QTE on the first or second day of a new game (walk towards the store anytime after 10am but before 3pm I believe) Step 2: Go to Sakura Park the 1st sunny day before 7pm after the Tomato QTE event Step 3: Head up the stairs by the Suzumi Park and go left instead of taking the trail on the right the day after the Sakura Park event anytime after 7pm If done right, you'll get a cutscene and this fight will take off!
I LOVE shenmue combat but I can't pull off any combos well other than stringing a couple attacks together, part of it is because I play the remaster though, either way great video, love Shenmue combo videos

His main art is Akira's style
Maybe it's because it doesn't happen much but every fight in Shenmue 1&2 is just the coolest thing ever.

I have the vibe of yakuza lmao
Like
Some of the move are literally in yakuza
I just play throught 0 k1-2
I ran out of storage lmao
That first kick was some action movie type shit.
Reminds me of some of the multi-hit kicks Michael Jai White does in his movies haha.
0:16 This is EXTREMELY close to the quickstep attack in Yakuza when you quickstep either left or right.
I mean, it started out as a Virtua Fighter RPG, so makes sense lol
Facts! Ryo's basically a young Akira lol
Someone should mod the original Shenmue into a beat em up, I always loved the combat...

The memories. Had it on dreamcast and i would just enter the practice area of the game and max out all my techniques just to see how they evolved
Holy fucking shit! You took these guys out! Ruthless!!! Wish I was this good back on the Dreamcast
I don't even know how this cutscene is triggered, but man, that was brutal! Haha
Yeah, speaking of... how IS this cutscene triggered?
" Now then have you seen any sailors? "
"Damn, not again!" Man getting combo spammed to death on the regular.
Is it me or are these health bars in the original are more beautiful than the remaster?
This is on disc 1. I know because Ryo hasn't learned double blow yet
I’ve beaten this game literally over 20times. Counting the Dreamcast, Xbox One & ps4 versions this game is really the game I play every December!!!
"C'mon guys lets surround this punk!"
Ryo's dastardly roundhouse kick 0:05
The OTG combo's got me wanting to play this master piece
You can tell by the combos alone it’s very Virtua Fighter-esque

How to unlock Tengu Drop and Shoulder Buster and what button combo is it on PS4?

Same here😔 Here's hoping that S4 will have better combat..
I feel nothing but bad at the game. I somehow found mastery in yakuza's combat but suck at shenmue. Rarely trained because I barely got In fights

What about Lan Di versus Kiryu? 🤔
Combat style sorta reminds me of Dead to rights
