    There is a fan theory that in part 3 when Gordon mentions that one of their patients cut off his own eyelids to stay awake, that that was Jessie from part 2 who had enough and could not cope with the nightmares anymore, which then led to Freddy focusing more on others such a Kristen who could draw others into her dreams and planned to have Kristen sent to the asylum (hence the "suic!de" set-up), now that there was no more connection to the original house to draw strength from, since the glove rested in that house and was his original gateway back. A plan Freddy was trying to perfect come Nightmare 4 and 5 with Alice and Jacob, and eventually did come part 6 to get other NON Elm Street kids into his world and escape Springwood. Yet he did not count on Nancy coming back in part 3.

    I love this movie! It's definitely my favorite in the series, and I've actually been fortunate enough to see each one chronologically as they've been released, but I still have so many unanswered questions. Like, what happened when the staff finally broke into the group room to find Nancy, Taryn, and Will all dead? Was Max there, or did he quit following Jennifer's death, feeling stricken with guilt and regret? What about that creepy orderly, Lorenzo? I know he's a grown-up, but couldn't Freddy kill him, too? How did Dr. Neil explain (Lieutenant) Thompson's death at the junkyard? And why are all the survivors suddenly just released from the suicide ward at Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital? Was it just for the funeral? Furthermore, at the end of the movie, they're all at Nancy's funeral, right? Well, wouldn't she have been fully to blame for the final deaths? They already fired her, and Neil, for Joey's coma! Why would she be buried in the hospital's adjoining cemetery? Or does Springwood only have the one graveyard? All I'm sayin is that a little fan-fiction epilogue would be nice!

    There several interviews Robert Englund did for the Freddy movies. His info about ZSA ZSA Gabor's reaction which was not in the script, was genuine is very funny. Also the theme song by Dokken DREAM WARRIORS started the horror movie trope of having a rock band sing the outro after the movie is over.

    This movie improved the series greatly, with creative kills, cool well made special effects, more personality to Freddy, and more interesting stuff added to the lore, but I think the dream warriors concept was the thing that connected with audiences, these teens with problems and struggles relatable to many in real life, facing Freddy which is almost god like, and after that, the franchise exploded in pop culture.

      Definitely agree there man! 3 was my favourite for a long time. The only thing that puts it down for me now is the made for TV-like soundtrack in alot of the scenes, and kristen’s constant loud screaming in the first quater/third of the movie lol. Apart from that, i love it so much and have made various fanfic set after the third movie lol

    It makes perfect sense that Freddy is making the deaths look like he isn't causing them. The kids already know he exists and are already afraid of him, so there's no point in showing the adults that he's the one who is killing the kids

    Running through the tar was a visual representation of a common dream where one cannot escape a pursuer. I had this dream after watching the Look and Read "the boy from space" series 😂 My how that scared me! I think the "running through treacle" thing must have been a fairly common component of dreams back then.

    At last, a sequel that broke the trend of diminishing return on want (albeit temporarily). This was certainly one of the better ones in the franchise. I genuinely enjoy Part 3. You talked in your previous Nightmare on Elm Street video about how aNoES 2 was Iain's first Freddy Krueger movie as a kid, well this one was mine at 8 years old. It may not be the best, but I do think it's better than people give it credit for. Maybe that's the nostalgia talking, and the first two are definitely better, but I do still really love this one.

  • @Stand_By_For_Mind_Control
    @Stand_By_For_Mind_Control 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think when people compare these movies they're going about it the wrong way. It's more about the individual scene, and every movie has at least 1 or 2 great ones.
    And everyone should really just appreciate how tonally consistent the series was for the most part. It drifted a bit but it never had any major tonal shifts up until New Nightmare - and nobody minded that because it was pretty good. Even Freddy's Dead is basically the same structure as all the other ones, just with some 90s stuff mixed in. Definitely think people who shit all over that one aren't thinking it all the way through though.
    Like who could be mad at Freddy's Dead after the Ft13th series were a constant string of like 3/10 movies with little production value? Halloween might even be worse than that.

    • @ryanjacobson2508
      @ryanjacobson2508 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was really refreshing hearing Iain's take on this film, especially since Dream Warriors gets praised as much as Aliens or Child's Play 2, with all 3 of those films turning the suspense-horror originals into action-horror sequels. I personally enjoy the darker, scarier tones for this franchise, with A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2 probably doing the best to make the jokes as grotesques or horrifying as possible, but with the first film being my favourite.
    I would also say that Freddy has used a fake-suicide for the tactic of killing kids before this film. In the first one, he basically frames Rodney for the murder of Tina, and no one suspects Freddy. Then Freddy kills Rodney in a way where it looks like Rodney hung himself in his cell overnight. That right there is the first time he makes a kid seem like they committed suicide. Glen's is a little hard to explain, but hey, no body, no crime. I don't think anyone is going to suspect a dream demon killed some teenager just because there was a bloody mattress with a whole in it.
    But Freddy seems to get stronger based off the souls he acquires, and only seems to have the big rule of "more fear, more power", during the plot of Freddy vs Jason. It would actually make sense for Freddy to kill the kids in ways that it disguises it, like suicide or framing other kids for the murder, and just gain power that way since the first time he was actually killing kids, the parents of those kids came after and killed him. And right when the adults figured out what was going on in Dream Warriors because Freddy was doing a good enough job keeping his killing a secret, they go and try to find his bones which eventually defeats Freddy in that movie
    Great review with great points though. Especially Iain mentioning how even if the kids were sent to the hospital due to Freddy not killing them properly the first time or an actual failed suicide attempt, that Freddy is only basically killing all those kids at the hospital because Kristen brought him there. I wonder what your guys opinions on the lore will be by the time Freddy's Dead comes around, that's gonna be fun to watch

    • @ryanjacobson2508
      @ryanjacobson2508 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With horror sequels there's always pressure to up the ante, so indeed they tend to have more action than the original. But in the process of that, suspense and atmosphere usually is sacrificed. I think that in the major slasher franchises, the first is typically the best (certainly the most "pure") installment.

    I hoped for all of the kids to survive, even Phillip and Jennifer were introduced so well and felt so REAL,
    that, when they got killed, I felt really sorry. Same for Will and especially Taryn.
    Even the hospital staff, from Carver on the top to Max on the bottom, felt like believable, relatable characters.
    They were no a-holes, they acted like 99% of people in those situations would act, I guess.

    Well, I’m going to be honest even if I get hate from people. I do not care much for any of the Freddy movies after the first movie. Nothing against the actors or the teams behind the films but I feel the original is honestly the best one and better left as a isolated singular nightmare on its own. To each their own, though. I will agree that Robert Englund really does a phenomenal job as the evil Fred Krueger and Heather Langencamp is no less phenomenal as Nancy. I wish though Robert and Heather weren’t typecast in those iconic roles. Robert does have some serious acting chops in particular and before Freddy, he was known for playing a variety of roles. In a weird way, I feel he has fallen into the same trap that Bela Lugosi fell, and while he has come to embrace that, I feel that’s sadly not fair to him, as a performer, because unless you set out to be typecast into only one type of genre (which is a choice and it’s fair), that doesn’t show off the full range of the performer and I also want to see both Robert and Heather get to do other genres and give them a chance to break free from the pigeon-hole and stretch their acting legs. Maybe one day… I hope so that they will. :) I genuinely love hearing from many of these solid performers themselves because not only are they educational in learning from, some of them - like Robert - are like a fountain of performance history. If anyone hasn’t yet heard it, look up the recent interview between Doug Bradley and Robert Englund… such a cool conversation, at least I think so. :)

    By the time they get to a 3rd film in a "franchise" things get...stale & tired usually ESPECIALLY in the Horror genre.
    BUT when I saw this Elm st. in London, I was surprised, the story was new & original, they had cleverly told an origin story expanding on what we learned in the original film, with out repeating them selves & the timing of the reveal about them being the last of the kids from the Street came at the right time along with the unexpected return of Nancy, even the sfx fit the story well for me, the big critisism of the film was that it had become too far fetched & silly, BUT this 3rd film now went in a direction that worked comedy DIDNT cancel the serious aspects of it.Just as it didnt for WEREWOLF IN LONDON or ROBOCOP also in a dream, ANYTHING'S possible.
    one critisism was we never saw the parent lynch mob burn him, as described in the first film, that could have worked well, it was as if they decided to explain what had warped his mind instead

    If this house belonged to Freddy, then why did the Thompsons buy the house after they killed Freddy?

      I forgot, it was in Part 4 when Kristen mentioned the Thompson house belonged to Freddy.

    I enjoyed this movie for what it is, but it really feels disjointed at points.

    Now that you’re doing the sequels, you should go back and put “end screens” at the end of your video which leads the user into the next review. You need to do this with all your franchised reviews (Halloween, final dest, hellraiser etc) because you’re losing viewers by allowing them to go to a different review. I’ve wrote a full audit of your channel for Linda because I know she will actually read it. Is she ready to do some TH-cam housekeeping? 😅😅👍🇬🇧 How do I send you the pdf?

    I think Chuck Russell is a super underrated Director. This film (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3) revived the series and really helped mold Freddy Krueger into the horror icon we know him as today. The Mask is personally my favorite Jim Carrey movie, and is one of the roles that snowballed his career. The guy literally made a Diamond out of The Rock with The Scorpion King. That movie is stupid and I love every bit of it, and it helped pave the way for Dwayne Johnson to become one of the highest paid actors in the industry. Dude deserves way
    more recognition imo.

    I love Freddy - I think one is super underated (it gets a lot of love but not enough respect) but I'm just not a mega fan of 3. It's ok, quite good, but I prefer 2. I know - not a popular opinion!

    This one wasn't bad, but that origin story for Freddie is great
    Dream child is really good, then new nightmare was really good and that was the last good Freddie movie because the reboot was completely trash
