Great info man - thank you. Just bought a 2019 for my wife. She had a 2013 Golf and is excited about the e-Golf. I think all the limitations you described we are ready to deal with. Regards!
I’ve had my 2019 e golf for 3 months. Absolutely love it but glad I kept my old Honda Accord as occasionally I still prefer the convenience of a gas powered car. I wonder why most gas stations don’t have a charging station as well especially in urban areas. I agree with your assessment of the car. Another thing I find annoying is that if I don’t lock the car when I get out of it the lights stay on for a long time. I’m also wondering why a heated steering wheel didn’t come standard. That would be helpful as I live in a cold weather climate and using the heater saps range quite a bit. All in all I love the car as a commuter. It was super cheap after the tax breaks. And it is SOO much fun to drive even in stop and go traffic
I think the issue with not being able to run the A/C if nobody is in the driver seat is a setting that can be changed. If set properly, the car and run the air or heat from the app with nobody in the car
06:38 those lines are for the heated windshield.... I don't understand why a californian car would have a heated windshield, but speaking as someone who lives in Scandinavia, I wouldn't want to be without it, as it saves me tons of frustration and time when I don't have to scrape my windshield with a ice scraper. I'm pretty sure your dealer can have that replaced with a normal windshield...
Hi, Despite the title of your channel, I found the video really interesting! You gave plenty of really useful insights into what it's like to own an eGolf. I look forward to more in the future.
Haven’t had issue with charging stopping completely when unlocking- it resumes for me. Did you wait 30 seconds to see if charging resumes? Sorry to hear you are not getting full regen. I don’t get full regen until state of charge is below about 95%, I think. I normally set 80% limit. My commute is 20 miles round trip so no need to stress battery pack. I love my 2017. Best of luck.
You probably figured it out already but your issue with regenerative braking mentioned in the end of your video may have to do with the fact that your battery was almost fully charged when you ran the test. Per manual, "There is no brake energy recuperation when the high-voltage battery is completely charged. Above a battery charge level of 85%, the braking power by the electric motor decreases regardless of the selector lever position and/or the brake energy recuperation stage. This is also normal and no cause for concern." Hope this helps!
I'm pretty sure its a law that a car shouldn't be on without a driver in. I think I heard it brought up when people were turning there cars on while parked on their drive to defrost the windscreen in the cold. Mad but that's probably why the car turns off if no driver.
I actually don't remember, but fairly sure it was eco+ (happened 2-3 times). I tried to duplicate the issue yesterday and actually couldn't get it to reoccur. But I think the difference was that I was forcing the car to think it was under 30 miles by turning the heated seats and heating on full, accelerating aggressively etc, so maybe the last few times the car was truly under 30 miles of remaining range and this time it was just a projection? I'll try to replicate it again soon.
Is there a reason why you haven't installed a level 2 charger at home ( because you are renting a apartment and they don't allow to install charger ? )
My commute is about an hour now that I have this car and have the carpool stickers. Cooling the car doesn't seem to affect the range as substantially as heating (heating at full speed and temperature cuts like 30+ miles of range since the car seems to assume continued use at the same setting once it's on, but you never need that because it heats up quickly). I'll have to test how much cooling at full speed and temp affects the range and let you know a more exact number for that.

Are you a mechanic? If so, greeting from another mechanic/technician. Also, if possible make more videos. Love your explanations. One love!

Great video. Is it eco or eco plus mode when reaching 30 miles?.

Yeah, that's the exact reason that I haven't installed one.
How long do you sit in traffic? And what about a/c factor? Thanks

Is this The SE model or The SEL? And do You know The difference?
Check this link for the differences www.caranddriver.com/volkswagen/e-golf#:~:text=The%20e-Golf%20SE%20comes,navigation%20in%20the%20SEL%20Premium.
And mine is the SE
Hi, how long it take to charge from say 20% to 80% with standard level 1 charger
I'd say maybe like 12-15 hours
Great info!
long story short he hates his car and regrets his purchase daily on his commute to work.
Good beard 👌
Same shit.. same problems.. :-(
