My 92 y.o. uncle who was a music major passed away on Tuesday morning. He left this world with a smile on his face while sitting in his favorite chair. This is California, so there will be a memorial service before his ashed are slipped behind glass about 12 feet above the floor in a mausoleum in Colma. There will be a memorial service of sorts. I doubt we'll be so lucky as to enjoy canned Christian hymns. Let alone amazing grace, nearer my God to thee or Jesus still lead on played by an orgsnist. Suddenly, I understand the point of your channel.
We care❤️ We do indeed May your uncle Rest in Peace and may his soul abound in the prayers of his family and loved ones. Peace and comfort through the Merciful Heart of Christ the King who has paid for our entrance into heaven with his Divine martyrdom.
I can't help but to wonder where the urge comes from for a young guy to promote hymn singing the way Ben does. In a day and age where only a tiny fraction of people in Western countries even go to any church, here is a man encouraging people to lift up their voices to God in worship. In New Zealand, country churches are increasingly being sold off for holiday homes, shops or even businesses. People all over this country see little value in faith and Christian life. I believe the UK is not too different. However. this channel and Ben's commentary give me hope that something beautiful will survive. God bless Ben Maton and his vision!
These beauty-filled videos, Mr. Maton, are a true service to Christians throughout the world. You skillfully make points I have never considered before. Your videos and “Piping Up” are true gifts.
I go to a good, Bible-believing church but they only ever do modern pop-style choruses. My soul longs to worship with music this beautiful and meaningful. I love this channel; you play not only with incredible skill but also with incredible heart. God bless you, Ben.
I left the demonination of a lifetime because of that. Wife was the organist. They removed the organ and hymnals. I call it 7 -11 music. Seven words or phrases repeated ad nauseum. I was no longer asked to solo. My choicess didn't fit. I attend online these days. Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Agree. The poorer parishes in California are kept from this beautiful music. I go to two parishes which are only around four miles apart yet, the quality of musicians and music is 360 apart. Nonetheless, the poorer parish is well attended by the faithful.
I am so appreciative that you are encouraging congregational singing with an authentic (not recorded) music instrument-the organ-to lead the singing. The story of the funeral recorded music and singing is very sad. Thank you for your passion to restore parish organ music in your area of the UK. Beautiful rendition and registration of Amazing Grace. Will look forward to hearing your weekly hymns. “At Peace” thoroughly meditative and relaxing. Keep up the good work in St Martin’s parish!!
Well played and well said Maestro! There's no better way to honor the life and memory of a departed loved one than to take an active part in the service than by having the congregation to give voice to the songs and hymns loved by the departed soul.
I am always so glad, Mr. Maton, to hear you play these wonderful hymns that, unfortunately, don't sing them often in Church. Thank you for sharing them with us.(I am in the USA).
I grew up in a Calvinist community in Michigan, and over the course of my lifetime, I've watched all of the old hymns disappear and gradually get replaced by pop songs and rock bands. I listened to my friends in their 20s and 30s talk about how "boring" old hymns are and how glad they are that they don't have to listen to them anymore. It makes me sad that centuries of Christian music are being erased in the service of highly produced, repetitive music that is almost impossible for people to sing together. Even as a kid I always loved the organ and the old hymns, but I was definitely the exception. My dad's church still offers a "traditional" service but when his generation passes away, that too will disappear. In listening to this channel, I've heard hymns that I haven't heard since I was a kid. Ben, the way you appreciate the details that comprise the elegance of all these churches and instruments is something really special. I feel like I am seeing and hearing them through the eyes and ears of a rare kindred spirit -- really a joy.
I spent my childhood attending the church where my grandfather preached in California and hearing the old hymns played on the organ. Hearing you discuss churches in the UK and playing the old hymns makes me both smile and get teary eyed at the same time. God bless you and keep playing!
Ben, I very much appreciate your music and more importantly, your message! I have had the pleasure of being organist at the First Congregational Church of Middelboro, Massachusetts, a church about 15 miles West of Plymouth Massachusetts, USA for 2 1/2 year while I was in college in 1975. The congregation was formed in 1697 (as I recall). The current building was built in 1828 and the organ was installed about 1882. A pump was added in the 1950s. 12 ranks, tracker. It has a flat pedal board with 27 pedals. The organs you are playing remind me very much of that instrument. I moved to the Western part of the US upon graduating from school in 1980 to begin my career as an electrical engineer. While I continued to play, it was different as the musical resources often became guitars, amps, drums and keyboard. I love the church I am now a member of. I know that the heart of the worship team is in the right place. The style is contemporary (though they do hyms as well ). I am not currently on the worship team, but they are needing more people. I am thinking I may offer to help. Ever so gently, I may have the opportunity to share some things ... such as introducing the idea that using different postures (such as sitting) can invoke a prayerful and contemplative message. Or perhaps doing a psalm with the congregation in a responsorial way with a cantor. Or using things that affect the senses (lighting, (incense might be a stretch), ...). While congregational participation in worship works with different musical styles (it is not my place to judge), I do miss what the organ can do to give the people the confidence to sing as a community of faith. Thank you so much for spending your youth keeping the idea of congregational singing with the organ alive! Robert
That was gorgeous! Sadly l was at a church funeral a few weeks ago & was looking forward to hearing the organ ! What a shock to hear this taped choir & music! Church was packed too & so surely as most were elderly, enough people would have known the hymns!
My father's favorite. The family sang it for him, standing 'round his bedside as he passed from here into the arms of Amazing Grace Himself, on Christmas Day, 2015.
I love what you do all over with the tucked away churches and less caressed pipe organs. A powerful hymn that helped end slavery and still inspires, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" could use your talents on any keyboard.
Thank you Ben for all of your organ music, wise contemplation on music, etc.. I'm an amateur church organist and you are truly a great teacher and inspiration.
Thank you so very much for this Ben, I play the organ at out church every Sunday and enjoy it so much. We had Amazing Grace at my mum's funeral and I played it and we had it at church a few weeks ago. Every time I play it I dedicate it to my mum as it was one of her favourites and I will be playing it this Sunday in the background
What Ben is really doing is giving rest to all our souls: personal , calming, non judgemental and loving. He is a man who is a life giver to those of us who need the bread and wine of life. God bless you Ben From Canada

I really love listening to your playing on this lovely organ. Those who attend this church are fortunate. Worshipping as I do in a tiny and remote church with a congregation of 6 or 7 recorded music has it's place but you can't beat the real thing! Keep up the good work.
In this country no one ever sings in a funeral home chapel. The undertaker encourages the family to bring in a favourite pop song cd to play on the public address system. Sad, and not in the good way that a funeral should be.
Ben, very nicely done! "Amazing Grace" (all 6 verses) was the final hymn at my wife's funeral. It was sung live to accompaniment from an organ in need of restoration. With that said, keep on encouraging the singing of the great hymns. 😃
I have been burned by organized religion but when I hear your organ music I feel such and joy and peace, as a child I would sit at my mother’s feet as she worked the peddles on the massive church organs she played. Bless you.
Your obvious reverence for hymns that has for a thousand years given hope and encouragement to build our faith is obvious. Thank you for the effort you put into your videos with the history and legacy of so many before us within the people of faith believers.
Ben I appreciate your playing different organs. Many years ago I played the piano and mostly organ for Baptist churches in middle America with horrific electronic organs which barely sound like a real organ. I played many of the hymns you are playing in your series with the exception of you get to play pipe organs! Thank you! I am enjoying your series.
I agree with everything you said Ben. I hope you have read my previous emails. I love that organ you are playing. The Trumpet is excellent and the full organ is astounding
I heard of an organist playing a brilliant postlude, and then fell off the bench to be found dead. Organs today can easily record and playback with one of several relay systems. Certainly not on a tracker.

Yes we all care about your uncle, just not California. That place is the antithesis of the spirit of The United States of America.

To our fathers in distress
Praise Him still the same forever
Slow to chide and swift to bless

Father-like He tends and spares us
Well our feeble frame He knows
In His hands He gently bears us
Rescues us from all our foes

Ye behold Him face to face
Sun and moon bow down before Him

I do love to hear you playing the organ and I appreciate the statements you give to your audience. Thank you so much!

Wow Ben, that was brilliantly played. Still catching up from beginning uploads to present.😊
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and music with us. - Chorus from Hong Kong
I love this hymn!
You are making a difference in b the lives of many people.
Thank you.
Thank you. Your rendition of this majestic hymn was beautiful. This has long been one of my favorite hymns of the church.
I have been burned by organized religion but when I hear your organ music I feel such and joy and peace, as a child I would sit at my mother’s feet as she worked the peddles on the massive church organs she played. Bless you.
Thank you!
Thank you for being such an inspiration to us
Lift their voices and PRAYERS to celebrate the life of a loved one. 🙏🏽 thank you Ben Maton
Dear Ben! Lovely organ and I like your English, very nice 😀 St. Martin...he's hungarian👌😇
Thank you! 😃
🇨🇦 loves beautiful hymns too!
'At Peace' is lovely!
Ben, please compose more. At Peace is so beautiful, soul searching music.
Great keep it up Ben I'm a young organist myself great experience
Havent heard this on the organ in a while.... but regularly on the bagpipes. But then my kids play in the pipeband

This is happening also in some small parishes in the USA. 😢
Thank you from sunny but cold Alberta Canada. The music and snowdrops are a breath of fresh air - and a hope of spring to come .
That was lovely thank you, Ben
I agree with everything you said Ben. I hope you have read my previous emails. I love that organ you are playing. The Trumpet is excellent and the full organ is astounding
Perfection doesn't begin to describe this performance.
Absolutely awesome.
BLESSINGS and thanks to you Ben from Scotland
Magnificent
Thanks!
I really enjoy your videos and wish you continued success , Sincerely Larry
Could you please play Hide Thou Me?
I heard of an organist playing a brilliant postlude, and then fell off the bench to be found dead. Organs today can easily record and playback with one of several relay systems. Certainly not on a tracker.
...more, "Simple Gifts", "Wayfaring Stranger", "Further Along"... just some ideas... What you do is more than good.
Is that the melody that's in your hymnal? It's different from the melody I have seen in hymnals.
The only othet musical instruments that does this very beautiful hymn any justice are the bagpipes.
Thanks!
Thanks!
