Kahlil Gibran - The Prophet whole book narrated by Philip Snow

  • George Russell wrote: ‘I do not think the East has spoken with so beautiful a voice since the ‘Gitanjali’ of Rabindranath Tagore as in ‘The Prophet’ of Kahlil Gibran, who is an artist as well as a poet. I have not seen for years a book more beautiful in its thought, and when reading it I understand better than ever before what Socrates meant in the ‘Banquet’ when he spoke of the beauty of thought which exercises a deeper enchantment than the beauty of form….I could quote from every page, and from every page I could find some beautiful and liberating thought.’
I am not a professional reader, but I have loved this work of Kahlil Gibran for many years and it is my great pleasure, having the benefit of today’s technology, to read the work, record and publish it, hopefully for the listeners’ pleasure.
This narration is also offered as individual chapters, both singly and as a playlist, here on this channel. Also on my website www.extreme-ventures.co.uk

My dear late husband gave me this beautiful book when we were dating. I’m 72 now with stage 4 cancer. It felt like a visit with my sole mate listening to this and it made me realize I must share this with our children. Thank you!

As a young woman, I traveled to Manhattan by train and read the works of Kahil daily. His works influenced my life in a profound way. In my later years, I have published a book of Poetry " A Passionate Heart" Thank you for this beautiful work, your voice is as soothing as I imagined Kahil Gibran.

My wife had pancreatic cancer stage 3 when my son was just 4 months old. She is a warrior and after many surgeries, 2 yrs of chemo and countless rounds of radiation and 6 years later she’s the angel that was sent to Grace my paths and teach me humility. I found that voice after those years. It was indeed difficult. But nothing prepared me for my mother’s suicide a little over a year ago. Her birthday was yesterday. Thanksgiving will never be the same for me oh how I wish differently. Pray for my family and I. Pray for strength in my life and the peace watcher finds me yet again.

In my darkest hour I prayed many times for God to help me . Soon I met Ria , who immigrated to America in 1963 at 20 y/o . The year I was born . We became best friends and lovers and significant others . I found this book among other treasured books and she told me to read it . She knew it would be profound to me and it was .
She grows old now and frail and I am scared but I know I will find the book and read it to her . She is as beautiful as the book . I love her . We are nearly 20 years together now . And I weep

Found an old antique, leather-bound version of this treasure of a book many years ago. I took it on every trip across the world, through thick and thin, and always kept me centered. A good luck charm if you will. Just by looking or thinking about it peaces me right out. A dear friend from Netherlands of many years' wife had a very bad accident and he was not the same for a few years. I just had to leave him with this book the last time I saw him in Lyon over 4 years ago. Know it helped them in some way. I will find another one but in the meantime I just watch this digital version ;) Peace to all and thanks for the upload Philip Snow.

Medical Ctr. Drs. gave my longtime friend a '50/50 chance' today. Laying down my phone, tried to quick think what was needed to quell the fright and Gibran fortunately came to mind.
But heaven's gift was finding the sound of you Philip Snow. No one will ever do it better. Absolutely remarkable. Bravo !
With Many Blessings, now & forever.

My Dear Phillip~ Thank you so much for this service unto Kahlil. I have no doubt he adores you for it! This was the first of Kahlil I would ever read~ and try to absorb in its infinite arrangement. That was more than 50 years ago. His writing and indeed, his heart has been with me every day and every path since. Through light and darkness, he has been there with me... guiding me to be the man I am.~ Peace be with you and yours always.... and, in all ways. R/

My friend lent this book to me during my darkest hour. I cried so much reading it. Then I found this beautifully-read audiobook and I've listened so many times, I can speak along with the narrator like a prayer. The words touch me right to the core of my soul. The author reads back to me the lifelong beliefs I've unconsciously held. So many of the incidental descriptions and observations ring true as well. I feel like the author knows me personally, better than anybody in real life. I'm staggered that such a short book can provide such a depth of spiritual sustenance and wisdom.

I first heard Richard Harris perform Kahlil Gibran's, The Prophet in 1980 but it had little impact on me at the time. It wasn't until a few years later when I was a student at University that I stumbled across the book and recognised it from my earlier hearing of Mr. Harris' performance. I can only describe that chance rediscovery as a God thing. I purchased the book and read it in one setting that evening. It was transformative to say the least and the devine wisdom in his poem has been a guide for living over the past 30 years. I'd have to say that few books have ever had as much of an impact as this one on my life. The Bible, The Upanishads and a few others are in that catagory and I still have my original copy. I have purchased many copies over the years to share as gifts. Mr. Snow's rendition is lovely. Thank you.

“A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me.” --- it happened. It's me. Not what people would expect, but I was a very good writer before I found out. Still have my doubts, but the experience I had when I saw The Prophet cover for first time was undeniable for me. A voice spoke aloud in my head (only time this happened) and said "This is you. This is you." Not trying to gain a single thing by saying this.
