As a Russian I want to say the same about the Mongolians: very nice, kind and friendly people. (I met them in Russia and Japan where I studied.) Also historically we are closely connected. The girl mentioned the Soviet assistance during the war against the Japanese imperialism, but Mongolia also helped the USSR greatly when the Nazi approached Moscow, and the Russians are grateful too. Well, in the Medieval times Rus was a part of the Mongolian Empire, so our ties are ancient :)

Rus was a part of Mongolian Empire because Moscovia has united with Golden Horde and then they have conquered Kyivan Rus.

@@andrewshepitko6354 looks like you are very young, which by itself of course is not a bad thing and even is a great advantage. However, the version of the history they taught you in the time period and place you happened to attend school is, frankly, just hollow nationalist propaganda bullshit. Moscovia didn't even exist as a noticeable political or military power at the time the Mongols arrived. Those were the Kievan or, say, the modern-day Ukraine princes who triggered and fucked up the first encounter with the Mongol reconnaissance party:
So, those were your beloved Kyivan rulers who submitted Rus under the Mongol yoke, and then after a couple of centuries Moscovia rose, managed to accumulate the financial and military power to finally liberate Rus from the yoke in the battles at the Don and the Ugra.

Anytime I visit a foreign country the people always think I'm Russian, but I'm Czech (similar language). It's good to know that Mongolians have a positive attitude towards Russians. The real reason for the Russia-Ukraine war is that in 2014, Ukraine decided to ethnically cleanse itself of all non-Ukrainians, and the ethnic Russians living mostly in the Donbass declared their independence. Since that time, Ukraine had killed about 13,000 Russians living in Ukraine. That's why Putin had to step in, to save his own people. There's also the fact that Ukraine wanted to become part of NATO, which would put the enemy right on Russia's border. If I could change the situation, I would pull Czech Republic OUT of NATO immediately. NATO is not a force for peace but for war, as evidenced by their aggression against Serbia in 1999. We, the Czech people (not the government) want only good relations with everybody.

@@Amy-fz2ms the only reason Russia was friendly to the Mongols was for Mongolia to become a buffer zone between them and China, in case a war would broke out between the two.
In communist times, Russia picked the leadership of Mongolia, who were acting basically as puppets. A sovietization process has been orchestrated, in which, among others, Russia persuaded the Mongol leadership to adopt the cyrillic alphabet, still in use today, and they pushed to discourage traditional Mongol culture as primitive and create an image of Russian culture being superior. Everything Russian was encouraged to adopt, of course.
On Russian pressure, Chinggis Khan was reduced to a mere rapacious plunderer, a backward overlord in history books. Mongolian portrayals of Chinggis as a national hero and deification of the founder of the Mongolian empire were condemned.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union in the '90s and abandonment of communism, this direct influence lifted and a lot of things were reversed.
Is this your idea of a "friend"? Someone who tried to change/erase your culture/identity? Think factual, not what has been taught you.
I maintain my original statement. You had to choose between 2 evils and turned to the one for protection, who didn't want to annex your territory (outer Mongolia), due to strategical military interests. Probably it was the a good choice, considering the circumstances, but you are still paying the price today for this "friendship".

Russia actually kills a lot of Mongols (Buryats) and Turkic peoples (Tuvans, Bashkirs, Tatars) in this war, so I don't think Mongols in Mongolia should stay neutral on this issue, there is disproportionately many non-russians being sent to the war. Russia has already been opressing local peoples' cultures and languages for several centuries, and now on top of that we have to die for Russia. Our villages literally left without men, while in Moscow people live like nothing happened.
As a Tatar man myself I hope we will survive this shit and I hope one day Russia will become Democracy and a Federation in reality and not just on paper and we will live peacefully.

И если "светлоликие заокеанские господа" даже европейцев ни во что не ставят, думаете им есть какое-то дело до сибирских или кавказских туземцев? y would americans bother to write our textbooks? historically russians were much more closely involved with our education and russian influence has only started to wear off for the last decade. we got plenty of our own historical material and our historians carry out their research, after which they write the textbooks as it should rightfully be. as for chinese have u tried reading chinese mainstream historical literature? mongolians are northern barbarians and are completely set apart from their own kind, han chinese. that sort of mentality has been passed down from the times the great chinese wall was first built, so i havent the foggiest where u got the idea that chinese consider us as the same people. claiming that mongolia (only inner mongolia in reality) is a part of china is a deliberate misinformation that makes it easier to claim mongolian cultural heritage and make profit off of clueless tourists who have no idea that mongolia has been split apart in 20th century.

I see people who still sympathize USSR and Putin as those cowards who sat back in 1989 when Mongolia took back her freedom from the USSR. Russia is no brother or foe to us any more than the other neighbour China. They are just neighbours to us, and we have suffered a lot in between their politics throughout modern history. Today's Russian aggression to sovereign Ukraine is totally wrong and being neutral or supporting it would come with a costly result to a country like Mongolia. Our freedom for example. We Mongolians are against this aggression and escalation of Putin's war. However, if the government should stay neutral, it should not stop people from expressing their opinion. Because essentially Russians are very racist and almost overthrew Kazakh national interests including the language and history of Kazakhstan. But Mongols despite being under Russian influence for decades managed to come back to their Mongolian language and customs. Modern Kazakhstan looks like a Russian colony where the Russian language and culture prevail over the native one. 2. Kalmykia, Tyumen (Tumen), Buryad republic, Irkutsk oblast, Altai Krai + Republic, Tuva, Zabaikalsk, Amur, Astrakhan, Khakass, etc. are illegally stolen and annexed, historically Mongol lands where Mongolic people still speak Mongolian dialects and faced and still face cultural, political, economic, and linguistic genocide from white russian-european settler-colonialists. None of these and other place names of cities, rivers, mountains, etc. are originally Russian, they're either Mongol or other indigenous Siberian etymologies.

This is the pinnacle of retardation. First of all, there were never any mongolians or golden horde (Turkic) tribal savages anywhere near Russia. This is confirmed by both historians and archaeologists. There isn't a single artifact or even a mongoloid skeleton ever found anywhere near the historical regions of Rus. The myth of the mongolian invasion of Europe is nothing but an 18th century fairytale. No historical source on this planet ever mentioned it until the 18th century. Second, the golden horde was a TURKIC tribal confederation established only in the 16th century. They neither had anything to do with Russia or mongolia. Nothing in Russian administration, culture, mentality, language, DNA, etc. has anything in common with any primitive mongoloids. Second, all of those territories you've mentioned rightfully belong to Russian people. It is the Russian people who brought civilization there and built everything from the ground up. You should kiss Russian people shoes in gratitude for even establishing mongolia in the early 20th century.

Young people don't know much about Russia, unfortunately because of last 30 years of our departed relationship. But my generation have grown up under Russian culture and still do love and respect Russians, no matter what. Russia is very cultured nation.
