I'm using these videos to help me rebiuld my t400, it's a 1974, out of a vette. I'll keep ya informed about the rebiuld, but your videos are awsome. I've watched everyone of them 4 or 5 times, I have it playing as I go along. So there shouldn't be a problem. Thanks again.
I always enjoy your instructional videos on transmission rebuilds. I have an old TH400 that is laying around in my shed and I’d like to rebuild it myself. The video series will encourage me to do my first transmission rebuild. Thanks
I done did it! Our motorhome is back on the road after 8 months of being broken down... i have shifted my hatred for transmissions, to a love and fascination of them.... I learned so many new things on that adventure, mostly from you guys.... really well covered videos... Thank you guys so much, Id say i saved thousands, but a mechanic just isn't an option for a single dad on welfare :D
Great job! That's awesome!! You gotta be feeling good about that. It's a feeling that can't be bought, only earned. Glad the video series was helpful. Really appreciate you taking the time to share you thoughts.
I'm fixing to rebuild mine, 3/18/24 First time rebuild! These videos will make this easy. I have already watched all the videos! I took the transmission out of the truck this past Wednesday. Had to take the exhaust out because it was in the way. I can only work on it on my days off and still don't have all the parts I need, of course it takes a little money to buy parts. A transmission shop wanted 3600.00 to rebuild it, and I said really, hmmm... I don't think so. Said hard to find parts, ya right! I guess it's going to make a mess on the garage floor, time to buy some Kitty litter Lol! Thank you for these videos! Oh I bought a little hand pump to get most of the fluid out, saves on Kitty litter!
The way you explain it is very detailed and straight to the point! Never had a chance to rebuild a TH400, but with the help of this video, pretty sure I will make easy work of it. Thanks!
Automatic transmissions are great examples of human engineering genius. Absolutely amazing. The TH400 in my 1994 GMC still works fine at 290,000 miles. Keep them maintained and they will take care of you. This is an excellent video series. The narrative is very important . Please keep it up. Thanks

you guys do a great job! both with video and explaining. My son and I are rebuilding our 1st truck together. A 1983 GMC K1500. We have already rebuilt the 350 to a 383 stroker and now we are taking on the transmission. Would be awesome to see a video about the transfer case as well. Thank you both!

Very good video thanks for taking the time to publish it. Question on the sun gear shaft there are 2 types one has 32 splines and the early ones 28 splines. If the sun gear has 32 spline can it use the 28 splined sun gear shaft? Are they interchangeable? Which is stronger of the 2 shafts 32 spline or 28 spline? Thanks
Thanks so much for doing that extra but in the middle about the snap rings, I feel like it was a lot of effort with little appreciation 😊So thanks for that!! U guys deserve way more subscribes
Excellent video, hoping during the rebuild he goes over doing air checks, that info is hard to find in detail, and if air checks are different between stock and a trans with the dual feed mod.

Great video! Let's just see if you answer this? The TH400 trans I have pushes the fluid out only sometime after the engine & trans sit, after running it for abit. Can't find where it may be leaking from though. What are your thoughts? Note: I did subscribe and hit your bell!

Hi, this is Huston I have a 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix with a TH400 I took it out the garage a few days ago I took it out for a drive it seem to skip 2nd gear and go right into drive and if I manual shift it from 1st to 2nd sometimes it slips and some times i doesn't but definitely have something going on with 2nd I rebuilt the governor and replaced the detent solenoid, what does this sound like is the problem?
I couldn't tell by the angle of filming but can I remove that large accumulator cover without removing the valve body or does it block some of the bolts? I'd sure hate to have to remove that valve body while it's installed but I have to refresh that accumulator because I'm banging into reverse. Hopefully that will take care of (that) issue among others.
dearly friend iam Abraham from Jordan proud of you some people have many hands and can do nothing but u really good guy keep going iam with you all the way be good 👍🏻
Th400 4900 rpm at 55 with 3.08 gears, what could cause this??? makes @ 650 hp. It will still spin tires in 3rd, i cant figure this out, what could cause this under ratio condition?
Why does my turbo 400 have no first gear, everything else works fine. It is in a one ton with 4.56 gears ,so it isn't that big of deal but it is coming out this winter.
What year is this th400 and how can I identify one? I been seeing a lot of these for sale as cores. I was thinking about buying them and rebuilding them but I don’t know which is the best ones to buy (if they have good years and bad years). It’s so hard to find 4l80e in my area. And if you find one it’s expensive.
This is a strong unit. I don't know that I'd be too concerned about year. There are different bell housings for this trans. Chevy, BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac), and I wanna say AMC, too (Jeep). I can't remember if we uploaded any video content on the difference between Chevy & BOP case/bell housing. Point is, I imagine that there would be a lot more people seeking a Chevy-style TH400...for their chevy car/truck. You'll have to evaluate your particular market, to get a feel for what would be best. Just my two cents...

Great question. That band is also applied when the trans is shifted into Manual Low (aka manual 1st gear). With the shifter placed into Manual Low, several positive things happen: 1). Line Pressure increases. (This is the oil pressure that's used to apply clutches/bands). 2). Clutch capacity increases. (Low/Reverse Band is applied...assisting the Low Roller One-Way Clutch) 3). Engine-braking enabled. (Deceleration, maintaining safe speed when towing down-hill, etc). Subjecting the trans to higher loads (such as towing, performance applications, etc) increases the likelihood that the clutches, and bands, may slip. When they slip, they create heat, and burn up the paper lining on the clutch plates, and band surfaces. This results in transmission failure. Increasing line pressure, and clutch capacity, reduces the chance of the transmission slipping. If you're interested, we could put together a video on TH400 power flow, and show how all of this stuff works....as time permits.
