Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe if it's a 12frame Startup. Could be used as something more preemptively. Like you know the opponent will press a button so you use it like a parry. Idk Ima Ryu Main but since it has armor I was thinking it could be used as a defensive tool also!
The fact that I legit ONLY play Rog. It's like your channel was made for me lol. Keep it up Brian. You definitely have a different kinda 'Rog tech and your T.A.P execution is uncanny

i dont know sfv much and balrog even more but what i do know is armor, and i honestly think the key to this is abusing the fact that you have armor to use this less as a whiff punish and more like a kind of counter
At first I thought he could only raw ex dp whiff punishes so then I started watching the opponents press buttons. A lot of them actually kept pressing buttons at the same rhythm. The akuma started out unpredictable but then he went into walk > press at a certain pace then eventually just went into almost mashing mode. The bison also just kept pressing after straight lol
I think it's more proper use would be for the -2 mind game, the only real spot he could use it in that case to me would be in dash punch being blocked or dash low maybe.
that's what i was thinking,i always thought screw smash was such an underused move, people usually only use it in combos or as a long range anti-air,i've also used the ex version as a move against opponents who dash in or use moves oftenly,i'm no genius so i'm interested to see how many uses this move has.
I'm 1 year late but Pugera does backdash and buffers the DP motion during it, if he sees a whiff he just presses lk (since it's the fastest one) he was punishing Urien's st HP a lot with that last time I saw him on a tourney, it might work super well against character with big whiffs like grapplers and stuff
@@DeathandGrim2 Oops, you're right, Desert Theme - MvC2 should be on there before Meridian Area Rapid Transit. Brazil Theme still plays for the last match, though.
Looks like a move you have to use more as an anticipatory counter. It's got reach, coverage, damage and a little armor; seems like a high risk high reward footsies tool to me. Do some tapping, pausing, get your opponent to dance a little, then disrupt the rhythm randomly and smash him. alternatively, pressure a bit, pause only briefly enough to let him think he can stick out a button and hit it on startup, perhaps.
I've tried this before but honestly there's only a few matchups where I really found it good, mostly against Chun-Li. There are those ranges where Chun wants to throw out standing fierce. If you can get a feel for your opponent you can get pretty good at anticipating and getting her to keep her hands to herself. Makes it easier to dash punch. Not really a whiff punish either, but effective nonetheless.
I use it as a main weapon. So I bait with a charge straight then use ex upper to punish wiffs. However they have to be standing sooooo im not sure how this reliable but then it will throw people off

Hmmm... let me know if I'm bugging, but if the attack has a 12 frame start up, wouldn't a raw EX Upper require an attack to have at least 12 or 13 frames of recovery? Maybe even more due to input delay?
haven't been updated in sfv, i instaclicked when i saw Makoto's foot in the thumbnail thinking she's already in. Slightly disappointed but all good lmao
I just use ex upper the same places I'd use a sagat medium dp. I really dont think ex upper is a bad move I think really any move that has armor or invincibility on frame 3 is very good and stops people from auto piloting frame traps
I use EX upper when the opponent is recklessly applying pressure. It usually gives them pause to continue doing it. However I do get thrown out of it or poked out it a good amount of times.
