Hey guys, Irene fixed the subtitles manually, so you can hit English and they'll be there! Doing it different for next one but I had already filmed this one and couldn't do it different!! Thanks for understanding!! Edit: Also, I noticed during the premiere there is an issue with the audio around 20 min in. I will try to fix it or at least set subtitles on that part for you guys to know what I say. I am really sorry about that!!! 🙏🙏🙏

Epik High are on tour in the US atm and their shorts promos are hilarious and genius! It was episode 5 of Suchwita, when Yoongi interviewed him. I wish you would watch that! You'll see what impact they have on BTS and their whole approach. Click on a few of their shorts, too! I can't explain it, but when you watch the episode you'll understand clearly. You misunderstood his comment. He's saying not everything is cookie-cutter regimented, and that that's an unfair narrative to hold them down. They are brothers in arms and great support and inspiration! One day, maybe you'll find out what Tablo went through, and realize the similarities with what Yoongi just had to deal with. I'm so glad that they have all the good people in their corner! They are taking the brunt of it, but they are fighting for way more than just themselves! 💜

Seo Taiji supported them and even gave them a big stage for his 25th anniversary, Danger Mo-Blu mix with Thanh, Tablo with Epik High, Coldplay making My Universe together and The Astronaut for Jin, Wale for Change, Erykah Badu, Anderson.Paak, J.Cole, etc. .... They didn't have much support, but don't discredit the support they had and have! Sorry, it's not helpful to get hung-up on some irrelevant ex-rappers who spent time in jail for being idiots, because they said something nearly 10 years ago. Because they wore make-up and 'betrayed hip-hop'? It's idiotic, but I'll never understand why Army is so upset about that. Don't they just look like idiots? Not nice, for sure. But not really important, unless we keep repeating it. The sabotage and defamation from the industry is way worse! @@Sherluck93 no that’s not it. I’m saying that when I first saw that clip and didn’t have any background info about who anyone was, my initial instinct was to protect the members. Once I understood who was who and their significance then I understood what they were saying and that they were coming from a place of concern, compassion and camaraderie. I get Frankie’s initial reaction because I had similar.
In the begining BTS songs were not normal subjects for kpop so their songs were quite confrontational to traditional Korean culture and expectations of an idol group. Their mission to protect youth came from Korea having the highest suicide rate amongst young people in the world. Confronting prejudice and expectations can be seen in many of their songs like NO ( the mv shows school children at desks regimented with no external stimulation) BAEPSAE a swipe at the older generation who keep trying to tell young people that the ecconomic problems they face are due to the fact that they need to try harder. BOOMERS are the Storks youth are the little Baepsae( a crow tit with short legs). When BTS was criticised for wearing make up they actually started wearing more obvious make up. They would take any criticism for instance they looked too feminine and then make drama skits where a member would lose the draw and be the woman. Instead of pretending to be perfect idols they showed their weaknesses and fears. They 'normalised' many things that more traditional society looked askance at. It is ironic that 25% of the fan base is over 40. Sincerity attracts.
@@anitaherbert1037i think that the number 25 % over 40 is an old info...i have a gut feeling that number is higher now...based on how many armys in comments admit being 60+! Like me! 🤗

Respectfully to Tablo and others, we don’t dislike they do in S Korea KPop trainee system… not even in sports. In the west, the kids still stay at home in the west. They still do other things, get time off to just do nothing? Go to school full time, etc. it isn’t the same at all. As far as the walk around it is JK carrying Jimin. Even though he was very young, JK was always very strong. He is the one they had do lifting, etc… like in one song (you will see in a later episode) he bends down and picks Suga up on his shoulders. The tallest is RM, then Im not sure remember correctly, but I think it is then Jin, V, JK, JHope, Suga and Jimin.
#SaveFrankiesBongos 🤣🤣🤣 This is where you got Jimin's iconic "See-through". So anxious to get to the next ep. Loved it! Again, thank you Irene 💜Thank you too, Frankie 💜
The main episodes are generally 30 minutes long so yes the deleted scenes are things that were cut for time or didn't fit the narrative. The bonus content starting in chapter 3 is to show their true Crack head nature. Trust me, in later episodes you will need this good laugh after the main chapter video.
That is one of the eye opening things I learned when watching all the docs and videos. JK is a foodie who eats crazy amounts of food of every variety. He even cooks
Muchas gracias por subtitular en español!!! Me encantan sus reacciones y poder entender todo en mi idioma se agradece!!! Bendiciones infinitas y éxito en todos sus proyectos!!!
It’s so crazy how they all grew up especially Jungkook, taehyung and jimin the youngest members 🥹 Saw the last military update of all the members and jimin became bigger taehyung is looks literally buff and taller and also the other members grew up a lot 🫠 now rm,Jin, tae are looking like the tallest
RM is the tallest, and Jin and JK are just a little smaller. JK was only 15 going on 16 when they debuted, so he was still growing. Jimin and Suga are the smallest. There's some discussion which one is the smallest right now.
Sorry I'm late, I'm in a different time zone. Thanks you so very much for doing this awesome series!! They were in the eyeliner era back then. 😂 Starting with episode 3, there are also bonus episodes. Borahae 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Their ages stated on this are 1 to 2 years older than what the west would consider their ages. They were still growing here. RM is the tallest now. No volume on part of your reaction. Luckily cc works on the silent parts.
To be fair, even Korea uses International age now. Out of habit, the members still age themselves up haha which is why Jin gets a year older every 20 business days 🤣 He’s going to be 40 by time BTS are back together in 2025
RM is 6'feet tall. And Jimin and Suga are 5'9. They are the shortest, and the rest are in between those numbers. In a behind the scenes video the told Jimin to pretend he could not reach a jar on a shelf, but he showed ARMY that in reality he could actually reach it. So any way not a lot of difference in height.😊 See you for the next one.
I have a very strange recommendation but voukd you react to otoboke beaver dont light my fire and i checked your cellphone, the drummer is absolutely insane and they hsve eben my favorite band for years
Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. So glad u are continuing this series. Aneesa the creator of this docu series is an editor. It took her 4 yrs of research to create 20 plus chapters. Many army don't want this series to end. Aneesa has to do more research to tell the rest of BTS story. She sadly does not plan to do this anymore. She is now a full time editor at Disney. It's going to be a long break to get more after we catch up to the final chapters. Sigh. If she ever changes her mind and gives us the other 3 chapters she has on her computer. Loved seeing Army do the chants before there were official chants. =0p Loved hearing that army was asking when is their debut on google. haha fun! This was their 1st live stage. Like they said it's their debut. Tallest one is RM. BTS did vlogs and made mixtapes and were the 1st to open up a YT account and Twt too. They did all this because they had no choice. They were not able to promote as they needed in Korea. Their company was small and had no money to pay for promotions. All the things they did was just to promote themselves for free and it worked splendidly. So many other groups from smaller labels do this now. BTS inspired so many! Excited to hear your thought on ch.3. Pls watch deleted scene and bonus content too. The bonus I start on ch.3. But each chap has deleted scenes. So glad u liked this. I am learning so much. i love this! Hugs. Later's. -NY USA Army💟 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💟 Aishwarya Ahirrao ⟭⟬ ⟬⟭ said on 7/23/22 This is a great series! Aneesa (the creator of The Rise of Bangtan) shared that she has been working on this series (her labor of love) for over 3 years! She is taking viewer on a journey step-by-step from BTS' perspective not looking back on their days but living through them (with them). She edits their content to allow BTS to speak their thoughts, through their experiences at the time because BTS has been documenting themselves since BEFORE their debut, so there is A LOT of material to edit down to tell their story! She also gives an overview of the KPop history for those who are not familiar with the industry. She uses clips from different video clips of other idols/ journalists interviews to try to give a broader perspective of the industry. Her skill as a professional video editor really shines through. Amazing work! I think many ARMY really like this series (besides it being extremely well made), she doesn't try to interpret what "she thinks" BTS is trying to say, she just shows the viewers exactly what they said and shared about what their thoughts were at the time. She is an "OG" KPop fan and BTS fan since pre-debut! She also shared that BTS has been the light in her darkness for many years now. (Cr: "FY" on yt) nafnaf said on 4/2/22 There's literally a word for "You worked hard" that Koreans say, "수고하셨습니다" (sugohaseupnida). It's a part of their culture. Mint said on 4/2/22 Yup. It’s kinda the equivalent “bon appetit” before a meal or telling someone “break a leg”. 열심히 하겠습니다 (I will work hard) as a greeting & 수고하셨습니다 (you worked hard) as the parting. A person might introduce themselves as “so and so from ___university, degree in x, I’ll work hard!” in everyday situations like new hire, or when you show up to volunteering, or even personal hobbies like meeting new members of your dance crew. Now i know that u know this, but this is for a lil background info and things to be notice in first two chapters for your wife to read & know 😊 I think it's important to notice the differences between BTS' worries and the other trainees worries. BTS' were worried about their own personal skills (not dancing well enough, song worries, etc), about not getting attention when they debut due to their small company, not having money, etc. While the other trainees seem to be living in fear of being cut from the company at any moment if they make one mistake, worrying about weight quotas, etc. BTS stayed until late hours because they WANTED to, while the other trainees HAD to. Obviously BTS had things they had to do too, they could've not made it to debut as Jimin almost did due to short training, but instead of using that as a fear to hold over them Bighit seemed to use it to encourage them to work harder and improve themselves. BTS were allowed to make mistakes without worrying they'd be thrown out of the company. I'm very glad that they all signed with Bighit, and that Bighit has caused a shift in the Kpop industry, lots of newer companies are giving their groups more freedom and treating them better due to BTS' success. These companies see that idols don't need to be punished and forced to do things in order to succeed, BTS are proof that freedom and happiness should be the most important thing. (Cr: "Shannon" on yt) Now plz understand this 1st episode shows two sides, one is typical k-pop system and how the labels/industry work, whereas subtle hints of BTS and bighit being contradictory different is shown, BTS is different from other K-pop groups and BigHit is different from other idol music companies. These first few episodes can be misleading because it makes you think BTS management follows these guidelines the other idol members from other companies are talking about, but BTS and BigHit don't do those things. Notice how when it is said idols don't have a lot of creative freedom, you see Namjoon and Yoongi writing lyrics, or when it says idols have phone bans or something, you see the BTS members on their phones, or how when idols say they aren't allowed to go outside the dorm, you see Yoongi walking around freely. It can be a confusing thing for new ARMY to make note of, but PLEASE notice these differences. It is vital to how BigHit runs differently, and therefore why BTS is so different from other idol groups from the very start. (Cr: "Kayla Kulik" on yt)
I don't know if someone has mentioned this, but there is a two year difference between Korean age and International age. JK was 13 when he became a trainee, and 15 when they debuted.
It's one or two years difference, depending on wich month you are born in. Korean age is like this: instead of counting how many years you have lived, they count in how many years you have lived. Example: you were born on 1st of december 2002? You are 1, you lived in one year, in the year 2002. On 1st of January 2003, in korean age you are 2, you lived in 2 years on this earth, in 2002 and 2003. So basically if you are born in the later months of the year they say you are 2 years older than the normal age counting we use, if you're born in January you will have only 1 year gap. I hope I explained it in a way that makes sense if someone is curious.
@@georgiana3112 yes, thank you. I don't know how to explain it logically, that's why I said 2 years, since JK was born in September. I think it is important, because of the Korean age, people don't realise how young he actually was. I believe he was 12 International age when he auditioned for Superstar K. (Before September 2010) Ppl say it was in 2011, but it couldn't have been because (by his own admission) he officially became a trainee at BH in April 2011.
I would like to recommend a video "why the music industry is terrified of bts" by boracity I'm curious what are your toughts as you work/-ed in the industry :)
12:57 It's not just a cool move though to attract attention, it signifies breaking down walls! You'll see that type of imagery alot in their choreography and videos (No More Dream, Not Today, ON, etc.).

Another great reaction, Frankie. 💜 I believe their heights are 175 cm (Jimin/Suga) to 180 cm (RM). It makes me laugh that that army often talk about who's tall and short because all seven are within 2 inches! I think that's incredibly good luck for their stage visuals. All of them are taller than average for Korea and very similar in height. Compare them with KPop boy groups like Seventeen; the members range from 5'5" to 6'2".
Has any Army member compiled a chronological list of videos so we can watch each as if they’re happening in real time with their progression through the years?
@@frankiebiggz I’m talking about all videos on the BTS channel which includes Bangtan Bombs, In the Soop, Festa, Vlogs, etc. All of them, not just the MVs
There are 3 pranks that I know of that the managers/owner played on the members which I think were a bit mean. I think this docuseries covered them all but this JK birthday pranks was rough to watch only because JK was so upset from the scolding when he hadn’t don’t anything wrong in this instance. There’s ways of surprising someone without tearing hum down beforehand
Same, I remember feeling so upset the 1st time I watched. I think his reaction even surprised everyone else too bc you can hear the members saying sorry, etc...I'm sure this was part of their process of learning how senstiive and emotional JK actually is.
Thanks for the subtitles! But, there is another "problem"... when you're watching the video, your audio is muted, so we can't hear your comments. I watched Rise of Bangtan after becoming a proud Army, more than four years ago. It's always good to watch it again, thanks!
It’s easy to look at another culture and judge another culture from our standards, but that doesn’t make it ok- and that is also a valid critique that’s been made about the series. Tablo is making this point in this clip (which is much longer) and also that this training system is modeled on artist development from Motown type training programs (which is also criticized). Big Hit was also deliberately trying to change this system, change the restrictions (the restrictions on BTS early were bc they were living away from home while under 18, when the older members say they were able to ‘sneak’ out, it’s bc they were adults.) Big Hit got rid of mandatory training schedules, trading debt, and a lot of the “SM legacy” problematic institutional structures. They did not get rid of the need for dancers and other athletes who are trying to perform at professional levels need to build muscle memory or abolish all Korean cultural values. After a songwriting work camp that Epik High did in the US recently, Tabo came back and said that Americans were just floored at how much they got done at the camp. I think he said 20 songs vs the 2-3 Americans expected. He added that much of the quality that comes out of S Korea looks way higher budget than it is bc of this cultural value of working hard, and that this is often used as a way of criticizing and discounting Korean art. This is not to say that cultural value doesn’t have problems bc of course it does, but we need really careful not to come in trying to fix SK as Americans (who usually don’t even know how much our country has cost SK with out role there bc we don’t know our own history). We don’t have a lot of room to talk with some of the downsides of our cultural values and habits. Including the incessant need to judge everybody by our cultural standards.
Oh no doubt, they create stars at a way higher level than we do as Americans. The same as for the songs in the songwriting camp we as Americans may develop 2-3 incredible A list artists while they have 10 times more. I am talking about QUALITY artists. I am in no way judging that, but in my opinion Big Hit had the right amount of "pressure" while giving these guys the freedom to express themselves through music, dance, etc. I am not trying to fix anything, because they don't need it. As far as mental health, as an American with PTSD I can tell you our mental health support in the US is BS as well, so absolutely I am not one to talk about the mental health support in SK. Sorry if you felt I was judging the SK culture, you are totally right. I am loving the Korean culture more and more everyday as I get to know it by their music, I just wish it didn't have the negative effects on some of these young artists unaliving themselves or suffering mental or physical breakdowns, but I feel the same for my country, as you say we have A LOT to improve. Thanks for your comment.
Hola.
At this time period, Jin was the tallest unless RM had the mohawk. Now, RM is the tallest. Still crazy that Jungkook is 15 during all of this. 😘💜🫶🏻🫰🏻 My 20lbs cat who isn't fat just huge thinks I am a piece of furniture too. It hurts. 😂
You might find snippets of songs you want to react to by watching this… just a thought. JK was only 15 (turned 16 on the birthday part). When he said he was 17, he was actually 15 unless it was after September (his birthday). It’s so sad that people have copyright issues now that Hybe hired that company. There used to be ZERO worries with this. Don’t the realize that the vast majority don’t fans have come from seeing them on YT?
It is a pity your subscribers can't see the captions. Without BTS words it is hard to put anything into context. Also loads of channels react to this series and they seem to have it published uncut with no issues?💜
It was just in one part of the video, I noticed in the premiere. Then it comes back, but I am going to try to fix it or at least CC what I say. Apologies, with the entire subtitles debacle I may have missed this in editing. Either that or it's a TH-cam glitch. I have no idea, sorry about that!
@brayonne1755 said on 7/20/23 Hey! ok so a couple things that aren't mentioned in the video that I found interesting when i learned about them: 1- the clip where Bang PD mentions they clear all other schedules when they're preparing for a comeback, that's actually a big deal because the company was struggling at that time and the guys all used to work side jobs to make revenue for the company. I don't mean like Suga being a scooter delivery guy, you can find the members in videos, promotions and commercials from back then as extras or back up dancers and singers etc. Not doing any of that for weeks would likely put a dent in the company's working budget for sure. 2- the reason Jin was upset after the run-through for the debut was apparently because his pants came down as he was dancing. I'd have probably died, especially as the eldest hyung poor guy! 3- that group EXO, apparently, I repeat APPARENTLY, their fans are the planners of a black ocean during a BTS performance. This is when during a performance the audience turns off their light sticks so the performers will just see darkness. It seriously breaks my soul that anyone would do this, that anyone would THINK of doing this. And there's no doubting that this kind of thing has to be planned, thousands of people don't just turn out their bulbs at a specific moment without planning. This has happened to a few groups in Kpop and is traumatizing enough that BTS portrayed one in their video for Bulletproof the Eternal. In xCeleste's (the queen of all armys!) hardships video she shows Twitter trends of "breakwingstour", "kickoutjhope" etc. Some say it's just specific fans saving their batteries for their specific artist but give me a break, being extra batteries! I don't get people's cruelty. 4- I'm glad you mentioned Kanye and Black Skinhead - I think THIS is probably the biggest thing that got them virulently hated back then, at least by underground hip-hop guys. I tried to dig as much as I was able about this and apparently, that radio interview (and keep in mind the idea of this interview was to celebrate BTS' one year anniversary!) where the jerkoff (rapper named B-Free) calls them girls for wearing makeup as idols, this interview was after that concept trailer thing (on the Kanye song, you saw a clip where they rip off their black shirts and are suddenly in white - by the way there are hilarious clips of a performance where JK and RM ripped too hard and ended up no zero shirt 🤣😍). The disgust was based on RM having re-recorded the song. They used the track, removed Kanye, and RM rapped it with exactly the same flow, if I remember right he did it in Korean. For the hip hop community this was outright blatant theft, you don't "steal" another rapper's flow. What those guys didn't know: BTS had spent an absolutely insane amount of energy on this comeback performance, it was a very big deal, they had been told there were no legal issues for them to use the song, but at the last second the **broadcasters** said they couldn't use the song, I'm assuming this is because they would have had to pay some sort of royalty to Kanye and weren't willing. It was too late at this point for BigHit to come up with an alternative which would have meant new choreo and all the rehearsals that come with that so they decided to redo the vocals, this way they could go ahead and use the song. Of course for the sake of the choreography the vocals had to match the original track so RM imitated Kanye. Apparently he knew and understood this wasn't a good move but there was just no choice anymore, there was too much invested in that performance, they couldn't not do it. Annnnnd... BACKLASH. I think it started with the hip hop crowd but this followed them for years considering "Plagiarism Boy Scouts" trended on Twitter on a few occasions, the suspicion stuck. I saw RM refer to it as his dark past. The good news is B-Free is currently in jail, or was. He even tried to apologize 6 years later, army told him to shove it. @cola5473 8/11/23 Fun facts: Jimin said that he most admired Taeyang and he influenced him to become a singer. Last year he got to do a collaboration with him called VIBE. Good video and there is a live performance too. Taeyang was one of SUGA's first guests on Suchwita. He is a solo artist now but was part of the k-pop group BigBang. They were one of the top groups but have since broken up. Also, Jungkook's life motto is one of the first tattoos that he got on his arm 4 or 5 years after he first said it.

Because they wore make-up and 'betrayed hip-hop'? It's idiotic, but I'll never understand why Army is so upset about that. Don't they just look like idiots? Not nice, for sure. But not really important, unless we keep repeating it. The sabotage and defamation from the industry is way worse!
PS: Also, criticism of the members or their music (their private life is none of our business), needs to be allowed. You think they're virgin angels who can do no wrong? Appreciate them for what they are and do! Protect and support them, there's no need to put all this on them! It's way in the past, they've gotten over it and moved on. Their existence alone proves them wrong.

RM is the tallest, and Jin and JK are just a little smaller. JK was only 15 going on 16 when they debuted, so he was still growing. Jimin and Suga are the smallest. There's some discussion which one is the smallest right now.

Hugs. Later's. -NY USA Army💟 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💟

This is a great series! (Cr: "FY" on yt)

There's literally a word for "You worked hard" that Koreans say, "수고하셨습니다" (sugohaseupnida). It's a part of their culture.
Mint said on 4/2/22
Yup.
Now i know that u know this, but this is for a lil background info and things to be notice in first two chapters for your wife to read & know 😊
I think it's important to notice the differences between BTS' worries and the other trainees worries.
(Cr: "Shannon" on yt)
Now plz understand this 1st episode shows two sides, one is typical k-pop system and how the labels/industry work, whereas subtle hints of BTS and bighit being contradictory different is shown, BTS is different from other K-pop groups and BigHit is different from other idol music companies.
He was so young!!!
He was born 1997 this was 2013 thats not 13 years and be real they all where young stop beeing so childish

Hey! ok so a couple things that aren't mentioned in the video that I found interesting when i learned about them:
1- the clip where Bang PD mentions they clear all other schedules when they're preparing for a comeback, that's actually a big deal because the company was struggling at that time and the guys all used to work side jobs to make revenue for the company.
@cola5473 8/11/23
Fun facts: Jimin said that he most admired Taeyang and he influenced him to become a singer.
Interesting! Thanks for all the info! 💜
