Finn, I’m curious to hear you talk about the band Gunship! You and I are the same age and have a very similar music “upbringing” if you will. Knowing that you’re into such a wide variety of music and that Gunship is so talented and pretty versatile (even considering they are extremely 80’s influenced synth with vocals band), they have such an amazing sound, very professional and clean sound. If you haven’t heard much of them, give their whole discography a listen, it’s only 2 LPs and a couple singles.

Ugh I'm 32yo and I noticed the trend. Basically it's a 15-20 year hold on media then they bring it back out for nostalgia. The reason is that most people set their tastes as teenagers. So if you went through that emo/punk/hardcore/nu metal phase, now you are getting the nostalgia festivals because you're in your 30s and have purchasing power (money.) Same thing has happened with Star Wars..... Twice! Originals 77-83 > Prequels 99-05 > Sequels 15-19. Crazy how life's timeloops happen... Same with clothing and other fads/trends

Truths about 2022 from a guy who turned 20 this year:
    1) WWWY actually was great (I didnt go, but I have friends who went and saw literally everyone they wanted to despite the day one cancellation)
    2) this year for music was building on the new surge of creativity that the pandemic and whatever the fuck 2021 was brought on
    3) MCR5 did not get confirmed, but Fall Out Boy 8 did
    4) there were a ton of good albums this year, like we should be extremely grateful about the hits to misses ratio in album quality this year
    5) TikTok fame was almost accepted as okay
    6) kanye's going to ruin his career, if we pretend that he hasnt already
    7) yeah, I wish bring me the horizon had put out the second post human ep this year, but whatever
    8) Emo Era Nostaligia is at peak levels
    9) this year was... pretty good, best year since 2019 life-wise.
    10) there WAS bad music, but luckily it was mostly in pop and rap genres, not rock.
    11) turns out Panic! WASNT 100% cancelled, and Brendon was able to put out a low end of the B-tier album that has some fans, and is at least able to fill the floors of all the stadiums he's playing at, and seeing as he totally decided to fuck off of the hyper mainstream sound, and has lost about 25% of the pre-solo era fanbase, I'm surprised he's even managing to pull off this stadium tour at all.
    12) GAYLE and MGK are going to win grammys, just accept it and move on children

I turned 20 this year too and this year felt eclectic. So many sounds are popping off and it hasn't been this diverse in a while.
This year was great for the growing popularity of hardcore crossing over with hip hop. It's always been a thing but this year felt like hardcore was really going strong.
Hip hop has also been embracing regional sounds. NY drill, Memphis, Houston, Chicago really stopped being dominated completely by atlanta. Rap wasn't just trap this year imo.
Indie pops going strong. So many anthems this year and as much as people like to tie that scene with tik tok, I think the music's great and I'm here for it.
There's so many other genres that are getting major love right now and the diversity is great.

I think your point about "metalheads want metal to get popular again, then when it does people whine about it..." is true, but only in the sense that once metal finds its way into mainstream (commercials, shows, movies) those of us who wanted some fresh air in the space are satisfied... and those who prefer it to stay underground point it out and start complaining. I for one welcome the exposure. More exposure to this form of music means more future music that I get to enjoy. I fucking love music, and I want other people to find music that makes them as happy as it makes me.
Also, love your videos... I hope more people find this channel, and your live streams. Keep it up!

Exactly the same. I can’t lie, I’m really young and went for spiritbox, but really got into underoath afterwards. Stray from the path too, but Bad Omens were a huge find.

u always got some good takes on the scene bruh and such a great job on keeping the history and culture of metal/punk and surrounding subcultures around for the generations to come. The teenage girls driving culture is so on point. I would say mainly college girls drive culture. Drake solely exists because he pandered directly to all the black college girls he had crushes on and look where he is at now. He got catapulted to mainstream and game over. Juice Wrld did it a bit later by doing the same for college white girls and was well on his way. Sadly ppl like MGK figured this out...eeeuuggghhhck. Also hilarious Kanye won the cringe...only to top himself again right after u did this by doing an interview w/ the Proud Boys....the culture right now is just...troll city, can't wait until thats done with.

Personally think Foundations of Decay is one of MCR's best songs. it is mixed the way it is because it's about "decay", gerard's voice, body, are decaying and therefore buried in the mix.

2022 was also a huge year for the UK's Windmill scene - black midi and Black Country, New Road dropped their best albums so far and went on a North American tour together, and Jockstrap and Yard Act released their debut LP's. Very exciting time for British music rn.

@@mike04574 It's called that because all these bands started by playing in a pub in Brixton called the Windmill. It's sort of a CBGB-type situation.

Many things but very happy have Lorna Shore selling out their whole tour is just awesome besides that whole lineup being awesome, Turnstile selling out shows including around where I live which will probably get bigger opening for Blink, and the Eddie Munson (Stranger Things) part was put on the screens during Metallica's set when they played Master of Puppets
