For sometime, I've considered building my own battery box but as pointed out, the cost of components and the assembly was more expensive in time and money than I wanted ro spend. Now that I've reviewed this video, I'm, convinced that for the price on DX Engineering, the money would be well spent but above all, there's room for expansion of not only a bigger battery, but for other accessories too. I think if a battery was impacted by a solar storm, that would likely be the least of your worries. NOAA has some interesting info on solar storms and radiation ratings they use. Search space weather. Cheers.
Even after finding the manual online there are still some questions. What is the Ah rating of the battery? Who makes this? I don't see it in the manual, on the label, or on Gigaparts' web page. Google didn't help, either. There is nothing in the manual about charging. Can you just slap anything on the battery that would charge any 12 V lead acid battery? Does the battery they use have any kind of internal protection circuit like some LiFePO4 batteries?
You need to decide what battery capacity you want to power whatever it is you want to use the box for. Compare the box interior dimensions and compare to the external battery dimensions you're looking at. You'll need to answer your battery questions by looking at the info on the battery you choose. Right. Maybe a couple of smaller batteries in parallel but not a 50. I did a video on computing the amp hours needed. You might find you won't need that size battery depending on how you use your rig. Thanks for commenting. Cheers.
