That was a fabulous journey and it felt like I was with you guys! Thank you for sharing your PCT hike with all of us. I really enjoyed tuning in and watching your adventures. Hard to believe it was almost 3 years ago!! Hope you guys are doing well!!

Hey BNF! Thanks for watching and supporting us. Yes, it's shocking and sad to realize the greatest adventure of our lives in rapidly fading into the rear-view mirror. 2020 was a very difficult year for us all, and while we were exceptionally lucky to be out on the PCT hiking, while so many others were locked up at home, it was still a major challenge for us, both physically and emotionally. I can't tell you how much the support from folks like you (and you were following us from the very beginning) meant to us during those tough times. You literally helped to keep us on trail when we were under pressure, both internally and externally, to quit and go home. So thank you from both of us. Have a merry Christmas, and keep watching. More adventures to come!

Thanks Kelly! We're so happy we had this adventure and look back on it with fond memories and have even talked about the possibility of doing it (or another long trail) again in the near future. Thanks for following!

You're very welcome Dave. It's been a year of ups and downs for us too, and we find ourselves watching and rewatching the videos of our PCT adventure when our spirits are down. We're so glad we were able to have that experience and create those memories that we could share with others.

Same to you Mark. We just went thru one of the coldest spells I've seen in my 30 years living in Washington: -17 degrees...without wind chill! I hope you're staying warmer down in Texas 🌞

you guys rock!!!! what a great journey!!!
Ken I noticed that you changed your green osprey pack for orange osprey after Sierras …. just curious what was the reason as I am shopping for new pack and was considering the green osprey pack. Thank you 😊
    Happy Trails guys!!!!!🥾🥾

Hi Martina! You have an observant eye for detail. That particular pack model (Exos) was light, but unfortunately lacked the durability for a thru-hike and it was uncomfortable when fully loaded (over 30lbs), which was common after a fresh resupply or during long water carries (5 - 6 liters).
I met several other thru-hikers who were using the same pack and reported similar problems with loose, worn, or torn waist belts or pack straps. While Osprey has a great replacement warranty (they sent me a new Exos), trying to do a warranty replacement in the middle of a thru-hike isn't something you want to deal with. I was pretty happy with my replacement pack, the Osprey "Aether". While it was a full 2lbs heavier than the Exos (!!!), it had much better straps and belt and carried the heavier loads MUCH more comfortably. After 4 more months on the PCT in 2020, and several weeks this past summer, it's still in perfect condition.
Everyone obsesses over pack weight (including me) but there's more than just weight to consider: comfort, durability, and ventilation (important in the scorching desert) should also be taken into account.
Note: for what it's worth, I had actually purchased an ultralight Gossamer Gear pack to use this past summer, but ultimately opted to use my old Osprey because I was going to be carrying almost 10 lbs of dog food!

Hey Ken. Marine Mike & Solar Power here. We are retired and hiking the PCT. Currently in Crater Lake. Would love to meet you up trail and buy you a beer. We both have watched all your videos and would love to meet you

Hi MM! Thia (Goldilocks) and I are flattered that you not only watched our PCT videos, but would actually like to try to meet up with us in person. It would be fun for the four of us to meet up and share our experiences on the trail. Are you planning to attend PCT Days at Cascade Locks (August 18-19) next month? We have talked about attending it ourselves this year and it would be an ideal spot to rendezvous with you and S.P. If that doesn't work out we may be able to coordinate a meeting somewhere else on the trail.
I also just saw you have been videoing your own hike so I've subscribed and we'll be sitting down in front of the TV tonight to watch them. Good luck with the rest of your hike!

If you have an email or phone number I can share our Garmin link and you’ll see our location as we hike north. Hope to see you both. Not sure best place to meet but you know our path. Lol

You're making good progress and should make Canada with plenty of time to spare ... if the fires don't shut down the trail.
We made it over to PCT Days this past weekend. It was really fun for us to be back around hikers again. Really made us miss the trail. I understand you guys wanting to keep marching north, but it would have been nice to link up there and swap trail stories. Good luck!
