Contrary to popular belief, the rope tied around the bull is NEVER tied around their "jewels" and the part of the rope that touches it underneath is covered with sheepskin or neoprene so they have no rope burn. These bulls are highly treasured animals.
You have to be on 8 seconds, if you do the judges will rate how well the bull performs as well as the rider. They combine those points to make the final score for that ride. Highest score takes the purse.
I think he's still bucking, but there's a Bucking Bull called "Hard Labor"(His Mama Dies birthing him) who was Bottle Fed by a little girl, and at 13-15, not sure of her age, she started hauling him and Bucking him at Pro Rodeos. In The Arena he's A Monster who made/makes lots of money, but follows her around like a pet Dog otherwise. Most Bucking Bulls are Valuable Animals and treated Like the Prizes they are, and the God ones are turned out to stand at Stud, for breeding More Champions. No Bucking Bull Wants a "Killer" in their string. They don't want any Bull Rider Badly Hurt, let alone Killed by any Bull. The last "Killer Bull" that I can remember was "Bodacious" who was very strong and athletic, with the habit of bringing his head up after a "Deep Dive" and smashing his head into the face of the Bull Rider. Tuff Hedeman had to have mutliple reconstructive surgeries done to "Put His Face Back Together after he Drew Bodacius the first time. After his full recovery Tuff drew Bodacious again, but had the good sense to "Turn Him Out"(He sat on him for a second, stood up, opened the chute and waved his hat saying "Goodbye" to "The Baddest Bull In The Bunch"). Not long afterward The Owners of Bodacious Retired him because it wasn't a matter of "If", but only "When he was gonna Kill Somebody. They made a wise decision and Turned Him Out To Stud. He was a World Champion Bucking Bull, and a Very Dangerous One as well, but his Owner had the good sense to Quit While They Were Ahead, and before anybody else got Hurt, or Worse.

But you only get scored for 50 of those points... The bull gets scored for the other 50 based on movement, bucking, and all-around tenacity... This leads to a total score for the rider from 0-100. 90+ being amazing. 4- the rider can score extra points through style, composure, control, and by spurring, the act of pulling your feet away from the bull so that you are only technically holding on by one hand as oh way to show off your control. 5- if something occurs to knock the rider off ending the ride early that could be considered interference and not the riders fault, such as the bull falling over the second the gate is touched, or the rider falling off due to being rammed into the fencing, a red flag can be thrown out into the field by the judges... Bullriding is not like America's funniest home videos. It's not about enjoying injuries. It's about watching the competition. There are some incredible riders . This is a traditional sport for millions of people around the world - US ,Canada,Mexico ,Australia ,New Zealand and parts of South America.
The bulls and riders both get scores, and those together make the ride score. Bull is scored on how hard he makes it to ride him, and the riders are scored on how well they rode. Most will wear the helmets still but some choose to just wear their cowboy hats because it looks cool.
To become a bull rider, you start with a can of marbles. You take one marble out for every day you ride a bull. When you've lost all your marbles, you're a bull rider. 😉
Madator "Bull Fighter"- "I will take on the bull after it has been bled and weakened by spears from my servants." American Bull Rider - "F that. Train up a bull to buck and give me a rope." American Rodeo Clown(Bull Fighter) - "I'll go in on foot and distract the bull when you fall off."
I had a friend pass recently from a bull riding accident. It was really tragic, but he knew it was a possibility and his family feels some aspect of peace knowing he was doing what he loved.
The part you said that if people got seriously injured or killed they would stop the sport would be completely wrong. The killing part doesn’t happen a lot but the serious injury part happens constantly.
Yep. For a Bull Rider, it's not a matter of "IF", but "WHEN" they're gonna get hurt and How Bad. Anybody who competes in any Rodeo Sport is well aware that they can get Hurt and Hurt badly at their chosen events, but they do it out of Love Of The Sport, and in some events, A Healthy Dose Of Crazy. As I look back over the past Decades, the Absolute Most Fun I ever had was when I was on the Hurricane Deck of some Rank Critter who didn't want me there. I always heard the announcer & the Crowds when I was In The Chute, but as soon as I yelled "Outside" and the chute flew open, everything was completely quiet, and the only thing I remember hearing was my own Breathing and the Bawling/Snorting of the Horse or Bull I was on. After the whistle blew or I ended up in the dirt before "8", all the Sounds came right back.........Nothing I've ever done was anywhere near being similar to that, and I've done other Crazy Stuff, over my long life. It's a feeling like no other.
Only a person lacking knowledge of the sport would get upset over the injuries and want it to end. The riders are grown men ( with bigger balls than this guy) who understand and accept the physical dangers. Injuries come with the territory and only rarely is there a death
Check out videos of Lane Frost. He was gored by a bull and died at age 25. He was truly a champion bull rider. Also notice when watching the scores that the bull is scored as well. Bodacious is one of the most prized and awarded bulls in history. The bull that killed Lane was names "Taking Care of Business". Some of these bulls are worth millions. At the end of the season when they name the champion bull rider they also give an award to the champion bull. As for your question about how they rile the bulls up, these bulls are bred and trained to buck. J.B. Mauney is another bull rider who is incredible to watch. Also, the bull fighters who are on the ground are tremendously talented. It's their job to rescue the fallen bull rider. They get him off the field and they keep the bull's attention on them so the bull rider has a chance to leave. Bull riding is an amazing and tremendously dangerous sport.
The bull named Bodacious was for most of his career considered unridable because of his ferocity in the ring. He figured out a way to whip the riders face down into the back of his head and usually knocked out the rider. Some riders tried wearing a catchers mask but it didn’t really help. From the start of his career he was strong enough in the ring that he became known as “The world’s most dangerous bull.” After four years and a couple of top riders being seriously injured Bodacious was retired and put out to stud to make a bunch of other totally ornery bulls. I have a friend who drew him at a competition once and he said for a critter that weighed almost a ton he could almost fly but he could also jump up and change direction in the air. He said it was the longest four steps he ever took on a bull in his whole career. In reality good bucking stock is almost viewed as more valuable than the riders.
Lived just east on the Mesquite rodeo arena. Wifes employer had luxury box. Good Rodeo Fun. Antique tractor and Farm implement shows. Tractor pulling shows. Monster truck Shows. Livestock shows. At the rodeo you get to see the little rug rats chase the greased pig. Had a little ring on the tail, whoever got it got a prize. Man lots of squealing. mostly the pig. Sometimes even concerts, country and Bluegrass. Down the road a piece there was a barber shop where after the scalping the crew there would do a little picking and sing to you. Those were the days.
As everyone has said both rider and bull are scored. The bulls trip is based on twists, turns, jumps and bucks. The rider is based on skill of the ride, spurring, how well he handles the bulls changes and other general nuanced items. Only 8 seconds is counted, more than and everyone fears trouble. These riders aren't really afraid. It's like driving a car if you do it enough times the less afraid you are. A lot of these animals get used to being called upon like any athlete, but the flank straps helps them too. as the animals don't want it on. A bit like dressing a teen, as soon as they can the teen will change clothing. Your correct bullriding is just one part of a rodeo, however, it has become so popular that events have been created for just bullriding.
I met a bunch of bull riders in 07 at the PBR Finals in Vegas, great guys. Always joking around and enjoying everywhere they are, especially considering that they are all working for the same prize money. If you finish low, you get nothing. You pack up, and go on to the next competition. Not to mention, everything they do comes out of their pockets. If you're good, you have sponsors to help you, if not, it's all on you, even medical care.
The song “8 second ride” comes from this tradition. If you guys haven’t yet, check out videos of an old show World’s Scariest and World’s wildest police chases. There’s also World’s Scariest shootouts. Those shows were insane. Also the Monster Truck rally videos are amazing too.
Bulls as a whole ain't aggressive when they are not in the arena, unless they are a maneater. I competed in the Frost and Hedeman days, and even Redrock, the bull Frost had a best of 3 with, the stock contractor that owned him lead his granddaughter around on him. Concerning how they are scored the cowpokes get style points for how well they spur.
They aren't called clowns anymore they are called bull fighters now the actual clowns are solely there to entertain the crowd while bull fighters engage in cowboy protection
A soccer player gets lightly brushed by another player, they'll flop on the ground and act like they've just been shot. Same with a lot of NBA players. A bull rider gets knocked unconscious and stomped on multiple times by a 2000 pound animal, and he gets up and walks it off. It's worth noting that some of these guys are actual cowboys who work on ranches as their day job, and even if they're injured, a lot of them are back to work the next day. I knew a guy who rode a bull on Sunday and got a torn bicep and a few cracked ribs, and he was back on his horse working at the ranch Monday morning. They had him work some of the machines for a couple weeks when he got his bicep surgery, but other than the day of the surgery, he didn't even miss work to recover. Cowboys are just a different culture.
It's for balance. How funny. They go straight up either. It depends on which way the bull is going. You should go to a small hometown rodeo. You'll love it.
They can trim the bulls horns, to the size of a quarter, thanks for the "southern inpressions" glad you found this funny and entertaining, these riders have been doing this since they were kids, I mean small kids, 3-4 yrs. Old, riding sheep, then to calves, and then to bulls, the bulls are animal athlete's, they are treated extremely well!!! Why can't ppl can't understand that!!! They do not antagonize or "piss off" these bulls, they're naturally aggressive, the commentator, is Ty Murray. He is the Babe Ruth, of Rodeo, and a founding member of the PBR, I would reccomend going and seeing rodeo for yourself and experience it firsthand, 4 judges, 2 rate the bull, 2 rate the rider, points from 1-25, the they tally all 4, and they get a total score for the completed ride perfect ride being 100 points, that also goes for the other rough stock events, rodeo is the most American sport there is, nothing else comes close, go check one out, you wont be disappointed
Angola State Penitentiary in Louisiana puts on an inmate rodeo several times a year for the general public. They have bull riding and will have up to six inmates riding bulls simultaneously. Inmates work hard all year to earn their spot in these events. Some of the events definitely have a Squid Game vibe. There is one where they put 10 hula hoops on the ground and an inmate stands in each. They then release a bull in the arena. Last inmate still inside his hula hoop gets $100. They do the classic poker game too. There's a craft fair that goes on at the same time and you can buy art work and crafts from the inmates. It's a good way for the inmates to make some money and there is some really topnotch art and other stuff. They were even selling really nice grills that the welding shop put together. As screwed up as some of the rodeo stuff is. The event let's inmates interact with the public and with their families in a good way.
I’m sure bull riding started like a lot of things. With a dare, someone saying they could do it better, and it just steam rolling till it’s a national sport. It’s not just the riders that get scored. The bulls are scored as well. They’re bred to buck hard. If they buck hard have a nasty spin trick, etc, they get a higher score. I’ve been told that some of these bulls are super gentle in the pasture and little kids can pet them. They do put a flank strap on them to mildly irritate and cause them to buck harder. Kinda like how if a wasp lands on you and you start thrashing around. Doesn’t hurt you, but you get energetic. They take care of the bulls and don’t over use them as they won’t go as hard. They can bred high scoring bulls for a lot of money.
Idiocracy is right. When humanity devolves we're gonna watch 2 hours of a movie called "ass". Us watching you react to people getting hurt is the start of it. I'm here for it.
Also, 8 seconds is the limit. Someone way back in the day determined that if a bull is ridden longer than 8 seconds, the risk of injury to the bull grows exponentially so 8 seconds is the limit. If the bull rider makes it to 8 seconds, he dismounts, or his ride is disqualified. As for who ultimately wins, it depends on a lot of things such as how he kept his balance, how he maintains his seating, how close his free hand came to touching the bull. If his free hand touches the bull even accidentally, his ride is disqualified. If he gets to the end and believes his ride was impaired in some way that was beyond his control, he can push a "rematch" button at the stall and can then either ride again or the judges will review the footage. Not all riders wear protective head gear. It's optional. Some do while others choose not to. They are all required to wear a protective vest that aides in preventing them from being gored and killed like Lane Frost.
There are 2 judges, each scores the bull up to 25 points and the rider up to 25 points, if they make a qualified ride, 8 seconds, they add all the scores together
To make points, you have to ride 8 seconds. But you have to pick a good time and place to jump off to avoid injuries. The first guy still pulled ligaments or tore tendons in his leg.
the three guys in the arena are to draw the animal away to protect the rider when he exits or is thrown from the Bull. the bucking htey are trained to do this and they put a strap around them near the hind end to get it to buck. if you watch sometimes you will see the roper remove the strap from the bull and it will quit bucking.
I'm a female I was a bull rider and loved every minute of it. Reba McEntire she rode in the rodeo famous country music singer. It's a lot of fun takes a lot of hard work skill. I have noticed that the other comments have told you the rules and regulations so I won't go over those again but thank you for watching
Cowboy would let go, but they are so obsessed with riding the bull, they cant get undone?? Thats Cowboy:) Secret knooots and such? Crazy, however Ill watch it every time
Both bulls & riders are graded on the ride. Riders are scored on form. The hardest thing to do in my opinion is to keep one's legs squeezing the side of the bull. If you let your legs start whipping around like your marking a bronc you'll lose balance. I did it in my youth. It was fun but I never perfected my form & never made it the full 8 seconds. Took plenty of dirt dives but never got hurt. But I did see a few guys get hung up in their wrap & they got thrown around like rag dolls.
Believe it or not, many of these bulls are not that violent or mean. But, a rope is put around their hind quarters, very close to their "junk" (but not on it/them), which they do NOT like in the least! Most of their bucking is not about getting the rider off, but getting that rope off. If you watch, once the rider is off, or sometimes even before, a dud on horseback will come close to the bull, and pull the rope loose. Usually, the bull will stop bucking immediately. How do I know? I'm from south Texas, and I grew up doing this in my younger years.
The scoring is out of 100. The bull gets up to 50 points based on its bucking and difficult to ride and the rider gets up to 50 points based on skill during the ride. Things like spurring during the ride are not required but can boost the rider's score. Just an FYI, the spurs are dull; sharp spurs are not allowed and have not been allowed for a long time. The spurring is strictly to try to add points. The bull's score and rider's score are added for a total of up to 100 for the rider. If the rider's riding hand lets go, if his free hand touches any part of the bull, or if he is thrown from the bull prior to eight seconds then only the bull gets points for the rider. In answer to the question: Do they do sometimes upset the bull beforehand, the answer is no. Bulls are naturally aggressive animals and these are the top of that category. They do add a flank strap to the bull which is a leather strap that they put around the abdomen just in front of the rear legs to make them buck higher trying to get it off. Think of trying to run with a loose belt dangling low on your hips while competing in a sport. You would try to get it off too. Animal right extremist groups created a rumor that they tied these straps around bull's testicles. This is absolutely a lie and has never been the case. If you had a leather strap tied around yours would you jump and twist trying to get it off or would you just stay still? These bulls are athletes and their genetic lines are highly valued and that being the case an ounce of, well, Bull love sells for millions of dollars to keep the best genetic lines going. That being the case, as a bill owner would you take any chance of damaging that with tens or possibly hundreds of millions of dollars to lose?Another thing to keep in mind, bulls are naturally aggressive, but not intent on injuring or killing. As the announcer said, the bulls are not trying to injure. They are the top athletes in an aggressive sport, and you'll notice that once the act is over the bulls know exactly where to go and what to do. They generally head straight to the gate with only a little guidance given.
For something more innocent and fun watch MUTTEN BUSTING. Children from age 4 to 7 hang on to the wool of sheep and ride them. Sounds horrible but most kids can't wait to do it and I have never seen a kid get hurt. Maybe a scrap or bruise, they are required to ware helmets. Americans aren't the only place riding bull. Canada has a big rodeo fan bases and riders come to America to compete. Brazil also has excellent bull riders. All bucking animals have a rope tied around their flanks (just in front of hind legs) to make them angry and buck harder.
There's a rope wrapped around the bull towards the back legs. This is the rope that makes the bull go berserk. Once the rider is off and the bull is clear of him, the cowboys on horses ride up and un-knot that rope and the bull almost immediately calms down.
Most don’t get wip lash due to moving with the bull than against it as well as putting there body in a position where it can go with the bucks injuries do happen but that’s not what the sport is for and also off screen there is a full medical team prepped and ready for any mishaps the bull fighters are also there for safety drawing the bull away from the fallen rider by getting attention the strap is usually lamb skin on the underside of the belly basically the bull is trying to get the itch off once the strap is released the bull becomes chill only does this once a year and spends the rest of the time being pampered in pastures these are treasured animals for comp
The hand in the air can't touch the bull, but once they ride 8 sec they can't just jump off because there is a rope tied to the hand not in the air they have to try to untie the rope.
The difference between Bull Fighting and Bull Riding is that in Bull Riding, the one who ends up Hurt The Most is Always The Bull Rider. Bulls do get Hurt, but not all that often.
The bulls have a rope on their flank, tight. Bulls are graded, the harder the bull is to ride, the better the spurring and time onboard is how the score
Score based on 50 percent on by the judge how the bull does and 50percent how the rider does 100 is perfect the hand in the air can’t touch the bull or your disqualified
I saw a bull ride in Katy, TX have his head stepped on by a bull. He never got up, taken away in an ambulance and we never found out about him, but I think he died.
bloody hell you yanks sure got a death wish to go up on them. why 8 seconds? and i'm surprised the guy who got his arm stuck isn't a vegetable after that madness. I'm also from Gloucester and cheese rolling up painswick is probably the closest to chasing death as bull riding. lots of ambulances on standby for that.
I have seen other Brit reactions to these bullriding vids and they enjoy them and wish the UK had the sport. It is a tradition not just in North America but Mexico , Australia and New Zealand Deaths are not common but injuries are It takes men with balls of steel to want to participate
50% of your score is how well you ride the bull saying up right and using your spurs. The other 50% is the bulls score how well he trys to get you off. That's how your get your score it's combined
The winner is the highest score based on a max score of 100, it is split between the skill of the rider and the skill of the bull, both are scored and the scores are combined, You get scored for an 8 second ride, no more/no less, if the cowboy stays on longer he is either stuck or looking for a safe landing zone. You can't touch the bull with your free hand and the more spurring the cowboy does the better his score.
The rules are 8 seconds to qualify for a score. Time stops when your ride hand let's go of the rope. The reason that guy got stuck was because they wrap the rope around their hand and hold both "ends" in their hand for maximum grip. The other guys are there to make the bull charge them instead of the rider so the rider can run off after. Not really well versed but it was on UK TV for a while and I sat up late at night and watched a series of it
I rode a mechanical bull once and the first move slid me onto my hand and I couldn't let go. There were a bunch of upset college boys as an old lady outrode all of them for 47 seconds. Couldn't fall off. Not my skill just dumb luck.
If you noticed all were wearing a vest. The vest is mandatory. Because of a rider that was killed. It dose provide some protection but not a save all. Hollywood made a movie bout the guy that was killed. Its called 8 seconds. Also watch pbr superheroes on dirt.
both the rider and the bull are schored, the bull gets scored bassed off how fast and how many turns it does, the rider is scored bast off if he is on for 8 seconds and how stable and balanced he is on the bull, there is a flease rope rapped around the bulls belly that is how they get the bull to buck
These cowboys are brave but they grow up doing this stuff, riding calves, steers and buck jumpers (horses). The bulls weigh right around a tonne bit more bit less depending on the bull. Rodeo bulls have a pretty good life and bull contractors are a very professional organisation these days. I imagine in the old days they would just chase some scrubbers up from the back paddocks. But now they breed for specific traits and have health, exercise and nutritional programs. There is the old saying rodeo bulls only work for a minute or two in there life times and stud bulls spend there retirement mating. Even ex rodeo bulls that are not good enough to breed for more rodeo bulls would still put some height and weight in your average farmers herd.
The bull bucks because they have a rope wrapped around their flank(the most sensitive part of the animal) that they are trying to get off. they do not buck because they are trying to hurt the bull rider.
If I may suggest, the Oversimplified TH-cam channel might be fun to watch, given there's a lot of fun history videos, both world stuff and country specific stuff.
Contrary to popular belief, the rope tied around the bull is NEVER tied around their "jewels" and the part of the rope that touches it underneath is covered with sheepskin or neoprene so they have no rope burn. These bulls are highly treasured animals.
true, these animals are treated like kings and queens when not working theyre so valuable
You have to be on 8 seconds, if you do the judges will rate how well the bull performs as well as the rider. They combine those points to make the final score for that ride. Highest score takes the purse.
Yeah they don't have to hurt the bulls to get them to buck. They just really don't like being ridden.
they are stars, many have fans

Good job.

EXACTLY! The bulls have more fun than we do. We get hurt; they don't.😂
wow...and I was just going to comment about half of your #3 and call it good...thanks

Your comment to that lady in the commercial made me spit my drink on the screen and laugh out loud!!!!!
Do wish we showed bull riding over here, found it on U Tube and have loved it ever since - the bulls and riders are amazing.
This is actually an international sport, with riders and events in New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada and USA
I had a friend pass recently from a bull riding accident. It was really tragic, but he knew it was a possibility and his family feels some aspect of peace knowing he was doing what he loved.

Also, the bull fighters who are on the ground are tremendously talented. It's their job to rescue the fallen bull rider. They get him off the field and they keep the bull's attention on them so the bull rider has a chance to leave. Bull riding is an amazing and tremendously dangerous sport.
Also back in Lanes day they didn’t wear padded vests or helmets!! Lane was kinda one of a kind.
Mental. Not sure we have anything this crazy in the uk! Maybe cheese rolling near me in gloucester. That’s pretty mental too
Lived just east on the Mesquite rodeo arena.
Best 8 seconds a Texan can have with his jeans and boots on. Second best is 30 yrs of combat aviation experience
I was a bull fighter/ rodeo clown in the mid 90's for (SEBRA) Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
My husband was a rodeo clown. He began high school rodeo as a bull rider.
You need to watch the small kids - how they start out riding sheep. It’s a total hoot.
You should show him the story of the legendary Bodacious, that bull was retired because it hurt so many cowboys. Bodacious the bull 😤 😅😅
We get hurt way more than the bulls.😂
The clowns that’s what they’re called. When the bull rider is finished, the clowns come in to redirect the ball away from the rider
They aren't called clowns anymore they are called bull fighters now the actual clowns are solely there to entertain the crowd while bull fighters engage in cowboy protection
Run, run, run... Run .. that was funny.. thanks . 🙂
I used to think the bulls enjoyed it more than us.😂
A soccer player gets lightly brushed by another player, they'll flop on the ground and act like they've just been shot.
Just I'm having a beer, you want one. Say that
They can trim the bulls horns, to the size of a quarter, thanks for the "southern inpressions" glad you found this funny and entertaining, these riders have been doing this since they were kids, I mean small kids, 3-4 yrs.
Love your vids, but remember there are two codes of rugby, and rugby league is massive in Aussie,
So does Huntsville in Texas.
Bulls, don't need steroids to be aggressive. They are steroids!!
Its the rope around its back end that makes the bull jump
Bet you can't ride that bull. Hold my beer dude.
gradin 8 secs of course cannot touch with free hand how well ya ride plus how well the bull performed
Idiocracy is right. When humanity devolves we're gonna watch 2 hours of a movie called "ass". Us watching you react to people getting hurt is the start of it. I'm here for it.
Why are you here?
The bulls just plain do not like to be ridden....they treat these bulls like kings
تحياتي من ليبيا 🇱🇾
The bulls have there balls tied with basically a rubber band.
Both bull and rider can each score a maximum of 50 points
If you want to know about the helmets then watch the documentary about the bull named Bodacious. They had to retire Bodacious out of fear.
Not all bulls are aggressive. I have a friend who has a HUGE bull who’s a big sweetheart who just wants lovins
If they were a helmet or not is the cowboy's choice
I bet you that last guy wears a helmet next time... Holy SHIT.
My 11 yr granddaughter rides bulls, she loves it, it’s the adrenaline rush, don’t get me wrong, she’s been hurt, cowgirls are really tough
You need to check out Bodacious. Bodacious was the MEANEST bull ever. He was out to hurt riders.
The thing is that it isn't just American. We have rodeos in Australia. With both bulls and horses.
The other guys in the arena are known as rodeo clowns. Their job is to distract the bull from the rider to prevent further injuries.
I'd like to know how the riders practice and what a "student" would ride for training.
It's the longest and how hard the bull bucks combined
In my personal opinion, “bull fighting” is where the matador slowly kills the innocent bulls. In “bull riding”, the bulls get to have some payback!
Those "other guys" are called rodeo clowns. Their job is to distract the bull for the rider's protection once he falls off.
To be honest most bulls aren’t agressive but you have your exceptions 😊
It’s a 2 part score. 50 % for rider 50% for bull
They put a belt around the bulls balls. That's why they kick
Bull riding is not only in America it’s an international sport
Score based on 50 percent on by the judge how the bull does and 50percent how the rider does 100 is perfect the hand in the air can’t touch the bull or your disqualified
If you ever get the chance you should go to one. Big difference between seeing live vs tv
I saw a bull ride in Katy, TX have his head stepped on by a bull. He never got up, taken away in an ambulance and we never found out about him, but I think he died.
I saw that happen in a rodeo in Farmington NM too same exact story but I think he lived but never rode again
they grade them on the ride and the difficulty of the bull
bloody hell you yanks sure got a death wish to go up on them. why 8 seconds? and i'm surprised the guy who got his arm stuck isn't a vegetable after that madness. I'm also from Gloucester and cheese rolling up painswick is probably the closest to chasing death as bull riding. lots of ambulances on standby for that.
Taylor Tovas the one that was knocked unconscious actually rode a bull the next night!! Bull riders a a different breed!
@@TBerryhillOK Wow, I was sure every joint in his arm must've been dislocated. O_O
I have seen other Brit reactions to these bullriding vids and they enjoy them and wish the UK had the sport.
It is a tradition not just in North America but Mexico , Australia and New Zealand
Deaths are not common but injuries are
It takes men with balls of steel to want to participate
50% of your score is how well you ride the bull saying up right and using your spurs. The other 50% is the bulls score how well he trys to get you off. That's how your get your score it's combined
The winner is the highest score based on a max score of 100, it is split between the skill of the rider and the skill of the bull, both are scored and the scores are combined, You get scored for an 8 second ride, no more/no less, if the cowboy stays on longer he is either stuck or looking for a safe landing zone. You can't touch the bull with your free hand and the more spurring the cowboy does the better his score.
Its in the form of the rider, one hand up in the air and to stay on in an upright position...if possible
The bulls get scores, too.
The one hand is wrapped to tha one strap to try to stay on the bull.
Actually, all riding started in Mexico and still goes on all throughout South America.
Look for a Garth Brooks song called Rodeo and you will learn why a Bull or Bronc fighter will do what they do.
I mean most rodeo events started as drunk completions between cowboys on down time
Cattle are prey animals. Their natural instinct when something is on their back is to do everything possible to rid themselves of the threat.
You not only have to stay on you have to keep spurring with one leg.
The bulls are also rated and scored.
I jus broke my wrist riding bucking horses
And all this guy can say is F this and F that.
In the same vein try hall of meat skateboard's worst fails bails and head slams.
skateboards lol, not even close to bullriding.
You should watch bull riding from mexico , there are pretty much deaths at every bull riding competitions. . It is gruesome watching that bull riding.
I dated a girl who rode a bull ….. She actually did it for 2 seconds…
Cowboy gets 50%of the score and so does the bull.combine the two for final score
The cowboys dont use the helmets.
Fucking hell fen. I just thought, if you don't show her the cheese rolling here in the UK she'll never know what she's been missing
