MiniOne82 I understand what you said, and that's not a proper excuse. He out braked himself because he was trying to run up the inside into the turn! He went in to deep and caused the accident. His fault entirely. I don't care (as most people) for whatever excuse WHY he did it. He still did it. You may know of the 2012 F1 incident with Grojean doing the same noob mistake taking out multiple drivers. There simply is little reward of nose diving up the inside on a turn like this.
When american want, they can do awesome cars, Corvette and Viper are the proof of that. Question ? What is the kind of whistle under the engine sound ? I know it's not a turbo so what is it ?
supercarchallengetv Sorry i'm french and i don't use translator.. . It's this high-pitched sound which follow more the speed of the car it self rather than the engine RPM, so i don't think it's the gearbox. You can hear it on most of the GT cars and i've always asked my self about where this kind of whistle come from. Thanks for your answer
Johan G.Bruère-Dawson It is the transmission. the sound specifically is the straight cut gears. thats why, which ever gear selected the sounds does the same as the engine in terms of the noise getting lounder or lower. :)
damn that Volvo driver was dirty, first the shunt at the beginning and then loses grip at 6:40 ,just to pull onto the ideal line at 6:42 with a massive speed deficit, risking the Viper crashing into him.
So this is a bit of a mix of classes, GT3s with a GT2 and the Volvo that looks to be an Australian V8 Supercar. If not for the Ferrari 458 GT3 and the ugly yellow thing what I suppose must be the Vicora V8 this Viper had a great race, he left them on the start/finish straight pretty good, same with the S60.
Funny thing on this video we do not see a lot of Europeans saying America makes trash cars and American cars can't handle. LOL. That Volvo driver was crazy at the start -- but once the Race Art Viper got past the Ferrari Italia and the yellow Viper he made short work of the Volvo. How did the race turn out?
What's that Volvo doing in there anyway? Corvette , Viper, The BMW's and Porsche, Ferrari, are road cars, that you see on the street. The Volvo was made specifically for this. Very few production numbers. That's Sweden for ya.
you make a valid point regardless of ppl saying 'oh its SRT wanting to stay true to this or that', woners like me for example would love paddles and potential owners would but them because they would be easier to use, this is part of the reason sales are hurt and people generally buy lambo etc over a viper even though a viper may be quicker etc
Your talking apples and oranges A Lambo is 10 times the price of a Viper, so I don't get your point? Also Vipers are not even sold in Europe. unless you buy it in the states and ship it over. As for the manual, that's the whole point. If you were to ask a pro driver what he would like to drive for fun a the track he would say manual everytime. Shifting used to be a big part of racing. An Auto Viper is not a Viper anymore.
It's hard to explain that to younger people, they were basically children when racing was racing. That's why i used to be a big CHAMP car (Indy) from the 90's. 900 HP manual monsters. Mercedes, Ford, Honda, Toyota were the manufactures. Road America (The fastest road course in the US) the 1999 Honda still holds the lap record!! Almost 20 years on. Penske Mercedes had a 1000 HP specially built engine for Indy 500. They won. CHAMP car raced all over the world, huge crowds, only to be ruined by a moron that wanted his own "Indy" series. Hardly any road courses and slow "spec" cars. F1 was great before semi-Auto gear boxes. Williams Renault was a technical marvel, but made for boring races.
as a viper fan and owner of a road viper and race viper GT1 i can say they are very intimidating and a racecar driver wouldnt alwasy want old school manual, i know plenty of guys that wouldnt pick it, i started liking cars in the 90s to so i get what your talking about, was a fan of everything obviously indy to and i agree about your point on that, cool drivers met greg moore andretti, i was talking about paddles being on aviper from a sales perspective, regardless of your opinion thats what hurt its sales, if there was a paddle verson it would have outsold manual 3 to 1 or more.
if only vipers wernt in a restricted class like back in the 90s and early 20s, also paddle shift on road cars would have helped sales regardless of keyboard warriors thinking somehow old schoolers only want H pattern, its a big reason viper sales slowed
Yup. Everybody saying "save the manuals" but people who actually buy supercars prefer sequential transmissions (dual clutch or otherwise). Keyboard warriors don't have the $$$. No point in building a manual supercar if the market mostly wants sequentials. Fast forward to 2020 and Calvo motorsports are building 2000+HP vipers with manual sequential transmissions. 6XD sequentials are also coming in the near future.
It almost seems like the Volvo repented for what it did and let the Viper slide on by right before the start/finish at the end there, so the two could battle it out like gentlemen. Very sporting, if that's indeed what happened. But yes, adrenaline plus cold tires equals mayhem at the hairpin at Spa.
