Why is it that I can't find a video review on a golf or rabbit without the reviewer CONSTANTLY comparing it to the GTI. Stop comparing it to the GTI and make it sound like its a half-assed car, compare it to its competitors from other companies like Ford's Focus hatchback, or its equivalents from Citroen, Peugeot, Kia, etc..
After 5 years with our rabbit I can honestly say its been one of the best cars my family has owned and probably my mom's favorite! Its been extremely reliable it gets well over 30 MPG (Very underrated engine) and the interior is very usable and roomy while the car is an absolute blast to drive even though it is more of an "economy" car. Also the cup holders are broken in the back of ours too lol and these did come with a cargo cover its just missing on this one.
I own a Rabbit and I'm getting 27 combined consistently. Good review but you really need to stop comparing it to the GTI, especially the MKVI! Remember what it was competing against: Corolla, Civic, Hyundai Elantra, etc....
In the USA, there was overlap between the 2006 Golf (Mk4) and the 2006 Rabbit (Mk5), which went on sale in June 2006. The same thing happened with the Jetta in 2005, when the Mk4 and Mk5 generations overlapped mid-year.
It is weird seeing a test drive of a manual golf in the States. After seeing all the test drives of automatics, I can see why there is a perception of using a manual being 'unnecessary work' but in Europe the general feeling of automatics is that they are for disabled or old people with bad hips - so they don't have a great image.
Probably my favorite compact car. The styling is great and they ride/handle well too. This car has that solid feeling you won't get in a Corolla. It will cost a bit more to maintain and repair should something go wrong but it's worth it.
To the reviewer. The "older" mk V platform is the same with the "MK VI". In europe the mk VI is regarded as a mk V and a half more or less. You can even see the older dashboard parts of the V to the VI.
great review man! more informational then most reviews. answered a lot of my questions about the car. im thinking of getting one. what is the gas milage like in this car?? thanks
Thanks for this review. I'm in the market for one (2008 - 5 spd). Couldn't find any good reviews but yours is great. Going from a 2005 Focus ZX4 ST to one of those. 0-100 km/h times will probably be the same (the Rabbit might beat the Focus in a straight) but I like the fact it has more torque, and I kinda like the sound of the 5 cyl. I hear very good things about the handling of this car, and its sportiness. Don't understand the heaviness of the car but I guess its the 5 cyl block Thanks again!
It’s actually half of the Lamborghini gallardo, they took that engine and basically sawed it in half (not literally) and detuned it. And your right it does sound like a Lamborghini engine because it has the same fire rate of the pistons which makes it sound like a baby v10 as some people like to call it
e314ds it actually Isn’t that hard to do, if you get a cold air intake or any intake it will make the car sound more throatier at 4K+ rpm and paired with a exhaust, it’ll be significantly louder throughout all your rpm range. It’s not obnoxiously loud though, it has a nice tone to it. I also have the manual trans it’s really fun to drive and if you put the intake and exhaust on it makes it a little faster
Mine's a 2 door Tornado Red with a manual and I have to agree that the shifting is really nice. We might have possibly gotten a mark VI one for me, but I wouldn't have picked the 4 door. I've been on Volkswagen's website and they're not offering the manual transmission on the 4 door models of the mark VI, at least in America. I don't really understand why you would do that. Hopefully they will correct that when the mark VII comes to America as a 2014 or 2015 MY.
Is that Sage Green, or United Grey? Great review by the way. I need to upgrade my 2001 Golf, and am thinking about getting one of these in the Spring. Super pumped!
The last Subaru boxer 4 I drove was in a slow 2003 Baja, I haven't really had a chance to drive the current models, Although a couple years ago I test drove an H6 Lagacy and I really liked that
I would love to have on of these! Pretty much all I want in a car right now. I just think the engine could make a little more power. Is the clutch as easy to use as ur Fit or does the Fit still have a better clutch?
Yeh autos are becoming more popular in europe, but mainly automated manuals, you've heard of them I'm sure. Slushbox automatics are too uneconomical unless you can afford it, which these days we can't sadly.
Finally on the 2013 regular 2.5 golf if you ge the sunroof and connivence package you get steering wheel controls for the audio and the computer in the dash. and with 2010 and up I think they all moved to cup holder in the rear middle seat when folded down, I know my brothers gti is like that. I'll be look at a 2013 golf or a 2012-2013 gti.
I'm surprised how affordable these are, just did a search on cars.com, found several with low miles for under 10k. I'd take this over a Matrix in a heartbeat.
They got stuck so me being the genius I am I decided to yank it open and the little panel fell off. They're still usable they just don't shut evenly so I leave them open. My dad's Jetta has little cup holders that eject from the armrest and they are so much better!
I hate that unlock/lock button problem, the button becomes ingraved into the key. It looks like 2 dents in the key. 170hp and 177lbs in this, so sofyan do you like Subaru engines? They make the same power.
I would say this beats the corolla and civic in power. Unless its a SI civic, this would win a race. The corolla has no chance with 140hp. Maybe a scion TC can take this cause it has the engine from the corolla XRS. Good video
VW need to improve their gas mileage? LOL Your driving a 2.5L petrol engine. What do you expect? 22>miles per gallon is very good milage for a 2.5L petrol.
Lincoln's MKZ, MKX, etc. is a rather stupid naming convention -- almost as stupid as Toyota insisting that SCION should be written in all caps (which no one seems to follow anyway).
And the door panels are not soft touch. They are hard plastic but fit is really close. I prefer them to the soft touch panels on the VI as those also are almost non padded and are very easy to cut or scratch vs these.
I would rate this review as Poor. Sounds too much like a kid we are supposed to care about? I like, I like, my GT,,,. Objectivity is important in reviews, look it up.
this guy sucks at reviewing the rabbit. nothing but being bias with his newer gti. I personally have this car and I'm happier with it then the 2.0 the gti has. it may have fewer hp but its much more reliable and its a lot of fun to drive. and fyi I get 30mpg with this car and it has bragging rights (the 2.5 5 cyl is half a lambo engine) gti's can't say that
There are actually people who are unsure about the sound of a 5? Inconceivable! It sounds awesome to me
I just LOVE the sound of a 5 cylinder engine, from GM's I5, Volvo, Acura, VW, they all sound great, got that unique sound to it.
Yes how dare they think that some buyers might be trying to decide between the two! Crazy!! Do they not realize the toll it takes on your feelings?

My first new car in 2008. That I5 is banging great sounding!!! I had a 5-speed. Great driving and feeling. Endless niggling problems.
I'm in love with the sound of that engine. It's really low pitched, but it's mellow, and kind of quiet.
I own a Rabbit and I'm getting 27 combined consistently. Good review but you really need to stop comparing it to the GTI, especially the MKVI! Remember what it was competing against: Corolla, Civic, Hyundai Elantra, etc....
The reason these don't make as much power, and why they are softened up is so it doesn't compete with the GTI. VW didn't want a sibling rivalry.
iDrive4fun93 true a 2.5 inline 5 can easily make 200hp.
@@jumbie4972 if you put a proper intake manifold on them and tune the ecu to match they make 210-215 horsepower.
Could you tell us one more time you have a gti.
saw the vw rabbit today, same color. Man that car looks good
In the USA, there was overlap between the 2006 Golf (Mk4) and the 2006 Rabbit (Mk5), which went on sale in June 2006. The same thing happened with the Jetta in 2005, when the Mk4 and Mk5 generations overlapped mid-year.

Wow, that has way more power than I would have guessed from an entry-level vehicle.
*takes plate off for video*
Shows it in footwell...
Those are dealer plates so it really doesn't matter .
It's "mark six", not "emmkay six". The Mk stands for Mark. :-)
To the reviewer. The "older" mk V platform is the same with the "MK VI". In europe the mk VI is regarded as a mk V and a half more or less. You can even see the older dashboard parts of the V to the VI.
I went from a 99 stick blazer to a 09 Auto Rabbit.. LOVE IT!
great review man! more informational then most reviews. answered a lot of my questions about the car. im thinking of getting one. what is the gas milage like in this car?? thanks
One of my relatives just got a black one. Its a freaking awesome car!
Thanks for this review. I'm in the market for one (2008 - 5 spd). Couldn't find any good reviews but yours is great. 4:48 the thing is damn overmuffled from the factory. you cut the rear suitcase off and nothing changes.
Very nice review! I would love if u could give me ur advice abt my golf review. Ive got just the same as urs but mine is a 2007 automatic.
If fuel economy is a must, go for the golf. But if you don't mind sacrificing some mpg's, get the rabbit. VW's 5 cyl is an amazing engine.
I bought one today. They’re funnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Here I am still screaming it’s.. fun
Still fun hehe
Nice Review Of 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit S. 😁
Vw should go back to the blue n red gauges
Is it just me, or does it sound very similar to a Lamborghini engine?
It’s actually half of the Lamborghini gallardo, they took that engine and basically sawed it in half (not literally) and detuned it. And your right it does sound like a Lamborghini engine because it has the same fire rate of the pistons which makes it sound like a baby v10 as some people like to call it
e314ds was it stock? I have a exhaust and intake in mine so it’s loud and it really opens up the car
e314ds it actually Isn’t that hard to do, if you get a cold air intake or any intake it will make the car sound more throatier at 4K+ rpm and paired with a exhaust, it’ll be significantly louder throughout all your rpm range. Uh oh... Someone driving the GTI to work now?? Lol great review, these are great cars!!!
you make the rabbit seem like it's some piece of crap.. smh
Is that Sage Green, or United Grey? Great review by the way. I need to upgrade my 2001 Golf, and am thinking about getting one of these in the Spring. Super pumped!
I want a rabbit soooooo bad!
Nice, two Golfs on the road
2011 golf with the 2.5 has improved gas milage. but they ddi change the gear ratios.
"M.K.5" is actually pronounced "Mark Five". This is the fifth generation.
The last Subaru boxer 4 I drove was in a slow 2003 Baja, I haven't really had a chance to drive the current models, Although a couple years ago I test drove an H6 Lagacy and I really liked that

It was rated at 22/29 at the time, probably expect 25 combined
there is a cargo cover on all rabbits.
I keep seeing and hearing that the Rabbit was made from 2006 to 2009 , funny thing is I'm going to buy a 2010 Rabbit tomorrow .
Just got an 08 and it’s fun to drive.
@@Jv9569 how's the rabbit after a year? My 08 is at 169k miles and red line it daily
Yeh autos are becoming more popular in europe, but mainly automated manuals, you've heard of them I'm sure. Slushbox automatics are too uneconomical unless you can afford it, which these days we can't sadly.
Why yes, and thank you :)
They are about even, what a lot of ppl need to get used to about the Fit's clutch is the engagement point which is like way at the end of the travel
hey im looking to buy a used car, would you recommend this car? would a lot of repairs be needed? around 60,000 km used on this car.
Finally on the 2013 regular 2.5 golf if you ge the sunroof and connivence package you get steering wheel controls for the audio and the computer in the dash. and with 2010 and up I think they all moved to cup holder in the rear middle seat when folded down, I know my brothers gti is like that. A TTRS would be awesome, I've never been a fan of Volvo too much tho :P
Es un buen auto boludo .. con ese le corres y le ganas a los deportivos
Uno, dos, one, two, tres, quatro
Matty told Hatty about a thing she saw
Had two big horns and a wooly jaw
Wooly bully, wooly bully…
Hi. Its a great review congrats. As I can see from 3:50 I can plug my iPod directly and play my songs and control them via sound system, am I right?
I had a friend tell me he used to think manuals were for poor people, boy did I change his perception quickly
lol I drive it every Thursday to work and occasionally, I will steal it on Saturday when the bf goes to work and I am off :) hehe
didn't mention the air diffuser on the top dash that's not on the newer models
Is the 2.5 5 cylinder a good engine?
I have a 2.5 Jetta. Super smooth motor with no DI concerns like most engines of today. I want a 2nd 2.5 because they are awesome and no longer made
I hate that unlock/lock button problem, the button becomes ingraved into the key. It looks like 2 dents in the key. 170hp and 177lbs in this, so sofyan do you like Subaru engines? They make the same power.

wait, are you and Jackson a thing?
lol I guess thats why they moved the cup holders to the arm rest since they kept breaking hahaha what made yours break?
Ok so how many RPMs should I shift at
do you know if you can switch the radio with like the new golf base radio
how many miles is on it?
8:00 Doesn't the Rabbit get like 30 MPG?
VW need to improve their gas mileage? LOL Your driving a 2.5L petrol engine.
What do you expect? 22>miles per gallon is very good milage for a 2.5L petrol.
4 DR so much better, the 2 DR doesn't look proportioned to me.
Lincoln's MKZ, MKX, etc. is a rather stupid naming convention -- almost as stupid as Toyota insisting that SCION should be written in all caps (which no one seems to follow anyway).
he has a GTi so of course he's going to compare it to that
not "em kay", it's "mark"
And the door panels are not soft touch. They are hard plastic but fit is really close. I prefer them to the soft touch panels on the VI as those also are almost non padded and are very easy to cut or scratch vs these.
After watching saabkyle, this review was hard to watch.
Right, I got confused with Lincoln lol
Christ only!!!! You must be born again!
Thats a VW Golf !
I would rate this review as Poor. Sounds too much like a kid we are supposed to care about? I like, I like, my GT,,,. Objectivity is important in reviews, look it up.
+JOHN PUBLIC yeah, its an old review, you can see over the years how the quality of his work has increased. We all gotta start somewhere,...right?
woohoo
Are you and Jackson dating? He's really cute. :)

VW Golf
High quality until the electronics go haywire.
am I the only one who thinks VW makes boring looking cars.
engine sounded great however.
That 5 cylinder doesn't deserve to be in such eco box looking cars!
