Hi Shloime! Love your videos. I'm from Costa Rica(and actually not Jewish despite my surname lol), but my mom is Colombian. The guy in the park is saying those little plastic bids are an "obsequio" (a gift) from "la tienda" (the store). He tells you that if you like it you can give him a tip, but otherwise the first four beads(?) are free. Colombia has taken in almost 2 million refugees from Venezuela, so there's a lot of them selling trinkets like that on the streets.
In the future you should just say "no gracias", which is no thanks, or "no tengo dinero", which means I don't have any money. These sellers are ruthless, and if they notice you're a clueless foreigner that can be duped they'll swarm you (which they did lol).
That aside hope you enjoyed your trip, you should visit more of Latin America!

Really enjoyed that video Schlomie. It reminded me of a school trip to Paris circa 1978.Under the eifel tower there was these Algerian guys ( again refugees ) selling these amazing toy flying birds. I really really wanted one but they were a crazy price and would’ve used up most of my holiday money. Fast forward to 2011 I took my kids to Paris and the Algerians still there so now as a 40 something with my own cash I finally got one and I love it. It really does fly
Keep up the great work x

Some very cool videos you have. Just some helpful advice from someone who has traveled to some of these places to avoid being taken advantage of. I’ve found it very helpful to learn a few basic phrases in local languages, especially numbers. Google translate is also extremely helpful (and you can download it for offline use).
And if all else fails, the calculator on a phone can be used to establish prices beforehand. And if you’re in a populated area, you can ask if anyone speaks English/look for local police if someone makes you uncomfortable. Anyway, keep the videos coming! Would recommend visiting Brazil next!
