      Nah, Boss Nasa sent Darth Jarjar, because he knew Jarjar *couldn't* die. Boss Nasa can break the 4th wall, and knew that Jarjar's infinite luck-based powers gave him the ability to take on entire armies and sith masters by himself. :/

    I think these blunders are completely understandable - neither the Naboo or the Gungans have a professional standing army. They haven't been in a war in centuries. Nobody on the planet has any combat or command experience, and their "armies" are really militias made up of civilians who volunteered only for the duration of the emergency. Boss Nass puts Binks in charge of the army because having been off-world with the Jedi for a few days, he has more real combat experience than the rest of the Gungan officers combined. This also explains the grand army's equipment - it's not military equipment. The shield generators are normally used for other purposes. The Gungans just grabbed whatever they already had that could be useful in battle and brought it along, hence the mix of technologies and lack of guns. They also don't feel the need to take a fortified position because they have the shields, which they can take anywhere with them. They also need to come out in the open to lure in the droid army. If they had sieged up in the mountains, the trade federation could have just ignored or contained them until they starved. They had to go on the offensive and actively threaten the trade federation in order to elicit the desired response.

      Still very stupid
      Should have hired a mercenary General (Carthage hired a Spartan General to improve their Mercenary Army)
      Honestly, there should be plenty of ex-military advisors in the Star Wars Galaxy (Jango Fett would make a great general!)

      I assume they would get through the blockade the same way the Jedi did when they returned to Naboo. Since they did not even need to show it on screen, it must have been easy.

      Yeah exactly, they had to go in a not so great area of defense so the trade federation would think " haha silly gungans.. they are in the open haha easy kill, send the army and end the resistance in one small fight. "

      Mark Chang the Jar Jar Binx clan won that victory despite Binx and his incompetence. He was thrown a mini boma and failed to catch it and was just lucky that while trying to catch it with his ham hock hands that it hit and destroyed a Battledroid. plain and simple Naboo won that battle through dumb luck that Anakin ended up inside the droid control ship and fired his weapons into the reactor because he accidentally fired the ships weapons while trying to restart it's engines. Are you a fan of the Simpson's? They did a show where Homer stopped a nuclear meltdown of the reactor by going " eenie meenie miney mo" and accidentally hit the correct button. Anakin saved the day by pulling a Homer Simpson as did Binx. If the Force had decided to Smite them, they would have ended up like bugs on a windshield

      @dragonslair951167 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      That seems quite plausible. The biggest threats to most planets were pirates, and sometimes territorial disputes between neighboring species. Full-scale war had been a thing of the past for a millennium.
      In fact, this also explains why there were so many tactical blunders during the Clone Wars too. There were few individuals with any prior military experience among the Republic or the Separatists, and there was a serious demand for people like Admiral Yularen, General Grievous and Admiral Trench, who had actual experience with military command before the outbreak of the Clone Wars.

    The contradictions in Gungan military is simply due to long term peace. They are a ceremonial force plus militias. Yes, they have a warrior tradition, but no actuall combat experience.
    And this is a repetitive factor that can be applied to explain the Clone wars napoleonic tactics - after a 1000 years od peace, no one actually knows how to fight a conventional war.
    The Jedi are arrogant, overconfident and individualistic. The Judicial force and GRA officers know the theory, but in practice they fought just pirates and smugglers.
    And the clones? Sure, trained by Mandalorians, the greatest warriors in the galaxy. But being a good warrior doesn´t make you a good soldier - did the Mandos ever in the last century fight a conventional war, with houndreds of divisions, tanks, artilery and air support?

    • @christiandauz3742
      @christiandauz3742 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Um then why don't they just hire Ex-Military Mercenary Generals (Heck, the CIS hired veteran leaders and they are still stupid as hell!)
      They had HOURS of planning time!

    • @jiriseidl4376
      @jiriseidl4376 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Christian Dauz Point taken. I do agree that the Republic not responding even when they had the testimony of a Jedi and a missing Judicial corvete, or the Jedi order helping, or Naboo seeking help directly from various system defence forces is kind of a plot hole. But I can't really agree with hiring mercenaries. How will you pay them, with your planet occupied, your market or whatever ratings plummeting? The Trade federation is rich as hell, if I were a merc, I'd dubble cross the Naboo for sure. And the fact that no one really fought a proper conventional war still stands.

    • @christiandauz3742
      @christiandauz3742 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not all Mercs or ex-militaries would be just about the money (There will be a few willing to settle old scores with the Trade Federation and Sith)
      -I seriously doubt Naboo and the Gungans CANNOT EVEN HIRE JUST ONE!
      -I CAN COMMAND TROOPS BETTER! (The Battle would have lasted WAY LONGER and much few Gungans would have lost their lives!)
      In Legends, the last war was TWENTY YEARS AGO (One of the Nuimodians participated in it!)

    • @michaelstark8720

      @@jiriseidl4376 Trade Federation had lot of power and even in galactic senate was shown how Malastare planet sided with them. Also their blocade don't just affect Naboo, but hyperdrive routes through middle rim.
      Many criticize Qui Gon when he said that Trade Federation would kill Queen if she stay but actually that is probable outcome after she sign treaty of allowing Trade Federation army on planet. They would say that they were invited to protect planet and Queen and all her govenment would be killed in some "accident" so that they cannot testify that they were forced into signing.
      Palpatine also wanted Queen killed because then he would raise question in galactic senate against aggression which would make him chancellor.
      Thing that happened in movie Queen managed to escape, trade federation ended paying price for their actions and that Palpatine didn't wanted because they were his servants and if they loose influence, he loose influence.
      Jedi have seen aggression of trade Federation, but they have no proof, If they have trade federation allies would say that it was made up. And if commision was sent as senator from malastare wanted, they would probably be paid to be silent about happenings.
      Republic was heavily corrupted and nobody in government was trustworthy.
      Trade Federation forces in case of investigation would retreat as fast as they came and commision would be payed to be silent.
      Also testimony of Jedi wouldn't be taken as truth because Jedi had bad reputation seen as enforcers of republic. Trade Federation leaders were scared to death when they heard that ambasadors are Jedi Knights.
      If Galactic senate heard that Chancellor Valorum send Jedi instead of ambassadors, they would took that as aggression against Trade federation. As Anakin said in ep2 about protecting Padme taht sending Jedi is overkill and that regular guards would do job of protecting same and that Jedi are send to find attacker. And Jedi did start to cutting doors to get to Viceroy so Jedi would take blame and galactic public would trust them lot less.

    • @NightmareTroubador
      @NightmareTroubador 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I'm late, but I attributed that to the Trade Federation being more commerce than military. My understanding,even in Legends, is this droid army was developed recently. It was supposed to be more of a security force than an army until of course they were manipulated by Sidious to push things to the point of invasion. So shifting your ships from cargo and commerce to warships takes time and effort that at this point the Trade Federation didn't bother with. Because no one in the galaxy has had a real army for the last millennium. So it makes sense to me why in the beginning they would be errors like the exposed reactor or a droid control signal. We see the latter for sure change by the time of the Clone Wars a decade later because now there's a war actually brewing.
      It's weird for us on Earth because war is a regular in our history. In Star Wars, until this point, large scale battles and war were a thing of the past.

    The dummest army in star wars canon will always be the ewoks.Also I personaly liked the fact that Gungans had those strange weapons its shows that they are both advanced and primitive at the same time,and they have developed their weapons different from the majority of the galaxy (probably since they were issolated from it)
    1)they could not go into the mountains because the droids were already there
    2)if they steped out of the shield the enemy ships would have blasted them from orbit this is why they tried to lure the droids close to them pluss they could not let the shields unguarded
    3)they could not throw those orbs while the shields were on
    4)if they retreated into the forest eather the droids or the enemy ships would have burn it down
    5)you sayed yourself they were just planning to delay the droids until the pilots destroy the mother ship and at the same time lure the majority of them out of the city

      I'd give it to the Ewoks over the Gungans. Ewoks, despite being the original trilogy's gungan equivalent, were much more tactically competent. They hijack imperial equipment to use it against their enemies, set up traps, have faint retreats, etc.
      After the battle of Endor, you can see Ewoks wielding captured blasters. Say what you want about their tech level, but I'd employ those flesh eating, absurdly strong, clever, viscous, adaptive little bastards over the gungans any day.

    There is a possible explanation as to why the Gungans had advanced energy grenades, but not blasters. Wookiepedia says the Naboo humans were not natives to that land, but the Gungans (obviously) were. When the Naboo arrived, the Gungans would have had immediate concerns regarding their advanced tech. The Gungans are a warrior race, but even though the Naboo outclassed them in every way tech-wise, the Gungans still would have been a big annoyance to them. They could have had some sort of pact with the Naboo to exchange certain pieces of land for certain weapons/technologies. The Gungans would have wanted primarily defensive tech (shield generators and hand-shields) to defend themselves if the Naboo decided to attack. I could see the Naboo not wanting to give Gungans blasters, so the energy grenades could have been a compromise.

    From what I've read, the Gungans were aiming to gut up the hill, but the TF caught them flat-footed.
    And in the space battle, the situation for the Naboo was _worse_ than for the Rebels at Yavin IV, because the TF had hundreds or thousands of droids against a couple dozen.

  • @Generalscorpio
    @Generalscorpio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    4:43 - Actually the Gungans wanted to take that hill but the Trade Federation got there first.
    That shot you see of them marching out of the woods and then the TF coming over the hilltop is actually all part of a single moment when the Gungan commanders realised they couldn't get the high ground.
    I advise getting the computer game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, it's basically Age of Empires but for Star Wars and it contains a huge section of Star Wars Lore which covers the Gungans in a bit more depth.

    I've been watching The Clone Wars series and half the time I'm wondering if these people have ever heard of orbital bombardment. If there's a fortress on the ground that you want to annihilate, along with everyone inside; you have a star fleet and they only have land forces, the only strategy anyone has is to land ground forces.
    As for Palpatine's gradual takeover of the senate: what was the public explanation given as to why they had started building the clone army 10 years before The Separatists tried declaring independence, which just happened to be ready exactly when needed?

    • @BewareTheCarpenter

      Can someone explain to me Star Wars architecture?
      Start with the rooms where Qui-gon and Obi-wan fought Darth Maul at the end of Ep 1; but I'd also really like to know about main reactors.
      The clone wars series proves that a 10 year old kid (Bolba Fett) can walk into a jedi cruiser's main reactor and destroy the whole cruiser with a regular blaster.

      Yeah they make just as many daft military decisions in Deepspace Nine - so it's not just Star Wars that has weirdly illogical battles.
      Something like a Y-wing or a B-wing would be great for ground support even a modest size corvette (one that can operate in atmosphere and stand up to Starfighter attack) would be really useful.
      Palapatine did a lot of hand waving over how they suddenly had an army all of a sudden.

      The Clone army was commissioned by Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, who hd a vision of a terrible conflict (i.e. the Clone Wars) and wanted the Republic to be ready. Unfortunately he confided his plan to his friend Count Dooku, not knowing that Dooku had just converted to the Dark Side, so Dooku told Sidious and Sifo-Dyas was murdered and Dooku continued the commission of the Clone Army under his alias Tyrannous.
      By the time it was revealed to the galaxy at large, the war had broken out already and people were mostly grateful than an army to fight the Separatists existed. Palatines own hands are clean since he can say "luckily a Jedi commissioned this (illegal) army", which becomes further justification once he declares an Empire- it helps him blame the Clone Wars on them.

    What I always wondered about the boomba was why they didn't have a larger blast radius; they basically can only destroy one enemy soldier. If they had a larger blast radius, like, I don't know, and actual grenade, they could've wiped out a bakers dozen of battle droids in one fell swoop, due to them marching so tightly packed together. That could've actually destroyed the droids before they shut down the shield generators.

  • @hellohelloington5952
    @hellohelloington5952 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    About deploying at the base of the hill, they actually had to. They were trying to block the droids off from attacking so they engaged them before they could go any further. They couldn't deploy earlier and if they deployed later they'd be too late.

  • @nexusofice9135
    @nexusofice9135 7 ปีที่แล้ว +53

    (being the devils advocate) If you look at it in a tactical point of view the Gungans had major disadvantages. Although it was implied AND stated in the movie that their goal was to never win the battle through force. If the Gungans could do that then they wouldn't be hiding from the Droid Army in the first place. The goal was to DRAW OUT the Droid Army out of the city. How to you do that??... You make a tempting target. An open field with no tactical advantage make that a tempting target while at the same time overwhelming shows the enemy your army. Forest can't do that (thats why the natives were hiding in the forest to begin with) and if you draw the droids to the forest then they would not waste time with an artillery barrage because of the cover. An open field on the other hand would make them try with artillery( wasting even more time... like they were trying to do). That is why the Gungans employed a sheild tactic in the field. without talking your ear off even more I urge you to look at the tactic again and think of it in a DEFENSIVE mindset of them just being a decoy like the movie says that they were suppose to be.
    On the topic of the Nubian pilots taking on a Droid ship.... Yes it is a bit far flung but that stays with the Star Wars theme of far odds against overwhelming force. Although a small argument could be made of Quality vs Quantity with a droid army. It has been well established that a living trained being is better than a droid.

      @Autismo TCW is shit that never should exist. It destroyed Jedi lore, Sith lore, clones etc...
      Only 2003 version was always planned.
      Movie explain exactly what is going on.
      Gungan Army is just decoy. Trade federation wouldn't kill lot of them because they would had more to answer to republic when all came to light.
      Trade Federation had lot of power and even in galactic senate was shown how Malastare planet sided with them.
And Jedi did start to cutting doors to get to Viceroy so Jedi would take blame and galactic public would trust them lot less.

      wtf are you talking about? Are alternate facts taking over pop culture now too? Do we get to just make up our own realities now to whatever suits us? Actually a majority of Star Wars fans don't like the prequels, that's why they bent over backwards to not reference them at all in Episode 7 and made only passing references to them in Rogue One. If so many fans liked those movies and they sold as well as the originals then George Lucas wouldn't have sold his babies. I don't care how small and vocal a group of haters are movie studios don't make decisions unless they feel it will hurt their bottom line.
      The only people that like the prequels are ones that saw them when they were kids and didn't know what good filmmaking was. Now they can't look at them objectively because of nostalgia. I've never met anyone over the age of 23 who likes the prequels. Maybe someone who saw them as the first Star Wars anything.
      Oh and here is what Simon Pegg has to say about Prequel apologists (especially those that will unsub from a channel cause they make fun of them.
      "I don't really have any respect for anyone who thinks those films are good. They’re not. (They’re) a monumental misunderstanding of what the (original) three films are about. It's an exercise in utter infanticide ... (like) George Lucas killing his kid." - Simon Pegg

      Ben Hudson revenge of the sith? yeah same for me. i feel like it's actually really underappreciated. granted it's still flawed of course but it's nowhere near the level of TPP or AotC. I personally love how huge the scale is for everything, it truly is the most 'epic' star wars yet. everything is so grand and dramatic, from the huge war scenes, to order 66, to the fall of the republic, to the rise of the empire, to Yoda Vs Palpatine, honestly everything about sidious was incredible. his acting was superb, he was so overly evil, you could really tell this was a guy who fucking LOVED the dark side. aside from that the Palpatine side of things was also great, his manipulation of everyone from the senate to the jedi to Anakin was all so brilliant, and watching it all come together was like watching a house of cards collapse. and how could anyone forget Anakin Vs Obi-Wan! I still get a bit emotional when i see it, even though it's been memed to death. anakin is a beautifully tragic character, it just sucks that most people think of TPP or AotC anakin rather than Clone Wars and RotS Anakin. while the force awakens is a more objectively well made film, it was just *hollow*. it had absolutely no substance and relied on original trilogy nostalgia to evoke any sort of emotion from the audience. I'm so fucking sick and tired of the 'small band of rebels defeats big bad space Nazis!!1!1' storyline, Disney can't seem to create any content that doesn't revolve around that. the force awakens takes place 30 years after the originals, but the world still feels exactly the same. at least the prequels tried something NEW! they added to the lore! they gave us new characters and planets and concepts! they built the world!
      revenge of the sith was all I ever wanted from the prequels, it's a shame the other two movies were so bad.

    • @benhudson7991
      @benhudson7991 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Have you heard Weird Al Yankovic's song "The Saga Begins"? He tells the story of Phantom Menace to the tune of "American Pie". Listen to that song, then watch Attack of the Clones and truly attack of the clones becomes a mediocre movie rather than as bad as it is coupled with the actual Phantom Menace. Hell I'd even give Phantom Menace the nod for the best Star Wars song ever. You know the song I'm talking about. The fight song.
      Disney does not create. They manufacture. Hell even Warner Brothers seems like a haven for artistic freedom. Why else did Joss Whedon agree to Batgirl and taking over the Justice League helm after the Snyders backed out because sadly their daughter died?
      I completely agree about the epic scope of Revenge of the Sith. It is extremely difficult to encompass such a huge scale in a small movie. I think Lucas did a great job at balancing so many aspects and keeping track of so many threads. Yoda and Palpatine was as epic as I always imagined it would be. The music filled the space with tension, grandness and foreboding.
      The finale frenzied fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan was exquisite. Just the right blend of fierce, chaotic but followable, emotional, frightening and hot. The opening space battle was incredible and rich with various engagements and inter-twining combat.

    I love getting in that mission in Battlefront 1 where you become a droid and kill the gungans.

  • @321gman3

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read up on the legends and cannon info on the battles before you do them! The gungans WERE going for the high ground but the Trade Federation beat them to it, Jar Jar was NOT in command, he was 2nd in command, read before you speak Generation Tech, I love this channel and it hurts to watch you guys make fools of yourselves.

      Then it makes them even more stupid that Jar Jar wasn't in command (Since the Gungans are doing stupid things during the battle)
      Still other problems with the battle
      Even if the TF had taken it, the Gungans should have advanced! (They haven't deployed the Droids yet)
      Greek Phalanx would be effective against Droids (Especially if they are close to the shields)

      @90lancaster 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the Guy who arrests Jar jar when he returns to the city (Roos Tarpals) and face palms when jar Jar surrenders was in 'operational charge' - But he is just a Captain and Jar Jar is Bombas General (just I know that sounds crazy) but Jar jar is technically the highest ranking person there - a scary as that sounds.

      321gman no, they're not. Not enough people know the books, even then it doesn't matter. The film needs to be criticized by itself.

      @@christiandauz3742 the gungans would have never reached the hill be for the tanks wiped them out. They could easily beat the battle droids in cqc but with out the shield the tanks just tore them apart.

    For those looking for cool Star Wars battles. Watch Star Wars the clone wars the series. There is so much character, battle tactics and epicnes that you forget that it's a cartoon. Specially in episodes like darkness on umbara where the face two 501 st legion attack a jungle planet.

      "burning anakin? child slaughter?"
      Maybe for 8 year olds of my generation.
      Remember, the never ending story? Remember when artax dies?
      Off screen infanticide followed by the burning of the murderer is nothing.
      Go watch Artax die in the swamp of sadness.
      Go watch The Dark Crystal and see a Gelfling have the life sucked from it.
      Go rewatch ep 4 and see the charred bodies of uncle Owen and aunt Beru.
      Eight year olds can handle that stuff.
      At least they could back when I was eight.
