That was awesome. Someone PLEASE tell Honda they are missing out on a huge opportunity... They absolutely need to design a small sports car around one of their sportbike engines. If I could buy one of these from Honda I wouldn't even think twice. This seems like a no brainer to me.
I do agree with that but high strung bike engines are just not good for the public, they require lots of maintenance, and honestly a sport bike with 30k miles is high mileage. They need a new S2000 for sure, and I love high winding engines, if they made one for it that would rock. But a bike engine well it's made for a bike. Not lugging around a car for many more miles.
Worth it though. Even if you have to drop a new motor in every 30k miles it is still cheaper to maintain than a Porsche. Sportbikes aren't for everyone either, but Honda makes a bunch of those. Why not a car?
Love the car love all the Honda 600 lines I have a 72 Z 600 that I'm building I'm putting a Honda Goldwing GL 1500 in it using a 94 Mazda Miata front and rear clip cut down in fabricated to fit I hope I end up with something as cool as that little S600

I love this thing. This is why I'm into cars. One tip tho, regarding filming/editing. If you use an exterior or flyby shot, can you use the exterior audio as well, instead of cutting in the onboard audio? I want to hear what these things sound like from the outside.
I loved this episode, pretty refreshing to see something a little rough round the edges, but enjoyed, on your channel. It seems to me that the drive lasted a little longer than normal too!
I gotta say, most episodes you can tell Jay was somewhat put up to showing a car. This one? It was all authentic excitement and respect for the craft. Great video- maybe Jay needs to scout more of his own shoots?
You can tell Jay really loves this car. I fully understand Jays disappointment when the guy said he tossed all the old parts. I had a Honda N600 that I wanted to restore but gave up on due to the shear lack of parts. I found out to keep something very rare like a 600 running you need three cars more as parts donors. That is an awesome car, but an even better video. Who would meet a guy with a car that looked like this, chat him up, and then feature it on a show where he'll get international attention. Only Jay Leno. The man is a car guy. Period.
By far my favorite Garage episode. Thanks Matt for building this and thanks Jay for making this episode happen. Just awesome!!
You know you’ve done something right when Jay Leno wants to drive it!
7:44 the moment Jay fell in love with that car. 😊 The engine sound is gorgeous
I get a kick out of his glaring smile the whole drve: You can tell he is proud of what he designed! Such a cool car
Jay is so happy because it brought him back to his youth. Before he had money and was a kid again.
No cares, no money, no women, no responsibilities, no headaches. Just the road , a lot of engine , and time to Cruise.
Love this video. Hardly ever saw Jay enjoy himself more, and the face of the owner is just one great smile!!!
I was unaware of the S600. What a beautiful car. This one is a beast! Jay can still get down, too!
Dude smiles nervously the hole drive.
"Don't be afraid to use the brakes....."
Nice!
I think he meant for Leno to speed up not slow down. If you don't need to use your brakes on a twisty road then you're not going very fast.
@@buggs9950 Looked to me like he was almost wincing through that grin every time Jay changed gear and give it beans poor guy was probably thinking oh god my clutch is gonna burn out or the rods are gonna come through the side of the block. Don't forget he said it wouldn't last forever well dude after lettin Jay rip the back out of it I'd say you're at least a thousand miles nearer the appointed rebuild time LOL
@@baron1946 i was thinking he was more worried about jay having a roll bar and not him, since he removed the passenger one "because it looked bad"
@@jacobjacksonsson9375 Yeah that's a very valid point I think I'd be putting that back he may not like how it looked but should it turn over at any point a lifeless passengers blood-soaked body ... less head, would look a whole lot worse me thinks
@@baron1946 was thinking exactly the same thing... then Jay got it right after a short while (edited for length ?)
Rand across Matt's video and loved it. Talk about a great surprise when I found out Jay Leno had a video. Love the hell out of this car. Could listen to that sound all day long. Great Job Matt.
Congrays, Matt, on getting a showing with Jay, and having him LOVE it, as you do.
I cant believe this is 6 years ago... Matt weekend'ed this thing just last week.
Seriously, one of the coolest cars I've ever seen. A street "car" revving to 11+K! Sounds great. Looks cool too.
Von Sterner that's a honda for you. They have at least 10 cars that revved over 8000 rpm stock
I thought Jay was going to whip out his checkbook at the end of this one, he enjoyed it that much. I like the sequential bike trans in this car. The owner needs to take this car to track day.
He probably did
The owner was grinning ear to ear too. He loved getting a ride in it. Amazing dollars to smiles
I thought about that too, but I was betting for the middle of the drive :)
He needs to build one just for Jay. Matt has to keep his original.
The non-verbal expressions say about all you need to know about this build !
Watching the smiles on both Matt and Jay, tells me this car is a BLAST to drive !
Like Jay said, this little car makes all the right sounds !
Who needs a sound system when you have a 12000 rpm rocket sled doing the talking !
This little project puts the fun back into the art-form of California hotrodding !
Great job Matt !
And thank you Jay for featuring this little hot rod !
For those who haven't yet seen the build process video,
I HIGHLY recommend Matt's 2 part video of the thought process, and trial and error effort that went into this project !
Every now and then I have to come back and watch Jay rip this thing around the canyon roads. Always puts a smile on my face.
Thing is screaming like a Ferrari at Lemans, all while safely traveling at about 50-55 mph. What a fun ride.
Wow. I actually see this car every day in my parking garage at work and stumbled across this video. Very cool.
You are one lucky guy!
That was awesome. Someone PLEASE tell Honda they are missing out on a huge opportunity... They absolutely need to design a small sports car around one of their sportbike engines. If I could buy one of these from Honda I wouldn't even think twice. This seems like a no brainer to me.
Honda built a s660 which is a small sports car like this, but only for the Japanese market
I am aware of that, but the s660 doesn't come close to this. How about a 1200cc 180hp bike motor in a brand new Miata fighter. That would be epic.
Good points!
Broke my heart when he said he got rid of the Viper and now drives a minivan... Marriage scares me
Roland Ocomen yeah but now he has this.
Roland Ocomen gotta grow up at one point ya know? Family first and hobby second.
I would get a nice wagon with respectable power instead of a minivan, I think BMW has one
Papaya Man
BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Cadillac - all of them have powerful wagons in their offer.
***** Awww yeah! Which one do you like the most?
Two car guys with plastered on grins bombing through the canyons of California. A fun time was had by all
The sound of this car gives me goosebumps from head to toe. no lie. This is ASMR. WOW. I. WANT. THIS. CAR.
Superfastmatt has a fair amount of info on how he made it, you would need his skills tho ig, he's really experienced and good and making stuff work
Agreed. This and the Pur Sang Alfa Romeo video.
Jay came alive inside when he drove this thing. Beauty in all types of hot rods.
finally heard the rev limiter when he hit the nitrous! The builder was having the best day of his life, good one Mr. leno!
When Jays tapping his foot while at a stoplight you can tell that he’s thinking about building/or buying it. Jays really loves that thing.
Jay Leno is the man's man. I love that guy. He's been with me almost my entire life.
Same
Love the car love all the Honda 600 lines I have a 72 Z 600 that I'm building I'm putting a Honda Goldwing GL 1500 in it using a 94 Mazda Miata front and rear clip cut down in fabricated to fit I hope I end up with something as cool as that little S600
Do you have any videos of your build? We have been sitting on a Honda Valkyrie that we are doing to do a swap with. Just found our donor car yesterday. Going to hopefully be putting it into a 1974 Austin American.
I was smiling the whole video through, just can imagine how it would be in the canyons. Nice video Jay!
Greetings from The Netherlands
***** After about three seconds of wide-open throttle, I was hooked. Bravo to Mr. Brown for building this fantastic roadster, and to you for sharing it with us.
Can you imagine how this guy must feel? This is Jay Leno, a man used to driving a McLaren P1 and he clearly loves this car. Something this guy built in his backyard. This goes to show that simple, lightweight cars are often more fun than high horsepower exotics.
Looking at the genuine smile on the maker's face, it is rather the happiness to share the joy with other car enthusiast and not a hapiness coz the "billionare, showman, carcollector" likes it.
It I always more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow!
@@meestahwah That's a fact!!
"Simplify, then add lightness" - Colin Chapman founder of Lotus car company.
The fact that a car collector at Jay's level can appreciate a budget build like this speaks volumes.
That car is pretty much the definition of fun. It’s light, it’s quick, it sounds good, and it looks great.
And by the way, NEVER paint or clean up the looks of this ride, it is so cool the way it is ! And that exhaust sound, don't EVER change it !
Have a 70's Ford original paint but looking to preserve that paint as-is with a wrap or dip.
Saw damage this year from vandalism. Was Not a show car, just a survivor.
Sad you have to hide stuff to keep it nowadays.
You can tell how much jay loves this little car haha, I can imagine with such a light weight and a high revving engine, that no domestic car has, this thing must be a pleasure to drive.
Well great, I just watched this video and now I have to spend my life building one because this is the most badass thing I've ever seen.
I think that is about the longest test drive I have seen Jay do. He WAS having fun!
This car looks like pure Fahrvernugen, what a joy to watch and listen to. Little commentary because they are both just enjoying the drive so much, amazing.
This is my favorite car you have ever featured.
Jay is always so good at interviewing the owner - asks good questions and his passion shows through..... Love the sound of this little car. The owner was pretty laid back too!
Of all the cars Jay's driven, this has to be one of his favorites!! Great episode.
For years, whenever I'm feeling down and need to be cheered up, I go to this video and start it at 14:35 . Hearing that engine go all the way to the limiter at 14:42 puts the biggest smile on my face. I hope to see it someday in the canyons!
Matt, you are amazing. What a sweet build. Then have Leno beat it like it owed him money! Priceless
I love how Jay just wrings this thing out. Fantastic stuff.
Awesome job Matt! When Jay Leno loves your car you know you've really achieved something.
I love this thing. This is why I'm into cars.
One tip tho, regarding filming/editing. If you use an exterior or flyby shot, can you use the exterior audio as well, instead of cutting in the onboard audio? I want to hear what these things sound like from the outside.
I could watch Matt & Jay talk cars all day
Ah, yes. The two legends of classic cars and comedy, Superfast Matt and Jay Leno
I love this car!!! The sound of that liter engine revving is contagious!!!
jay: ya got nitrous in it?
guy: yup
jay: *laughs like an evil villain*
3:39 if you're wondering
Wow! So nice of @superfastmatt to help out a lesser-known TH-camr like this.
I loved this episode, pretty refreshing to see something a little rough round the edges, but enjoyed, on your channel. It seems to me that the drive lasted a little longer than normal too!
bradders3535 Lol. I agree. Cool, grungy car, filler in the canyons.
bradders3535 It's been said when Jay really likes a car, he drives it for 45-60 minutes. When he is not into it, 20-25 minutes.👍
aquateen77723 Given the amount of different shots and camera angles in the canyons, I wouldn't be surprised if they were out for 2 hours!
that sound makes me happy...
I sold mine try to another 600 owner.
What a build...amazing job Matt Brown! Thanks Jay and team for sharing again! These videos are what car enthusiasm is all about.
A real car guy sharing his passion for cars
Lol right, more like a real bike guy. Get a clue
The more Jay beats it the bigger that guys smile gets. Excellent
What an amazing car, well done Matt - I'm jealous
