Absolutely epic! The holy grail indeed. So rare. This is the multivalve engine. No other diesel in the 80 series line up is 24 valves. The other 2 are 22 valve. That's what makes this so unique. And therefore the same engine that went into the fte 100. Slightly modded
Congratulations, This Landcruiser 80 series is the Very powerful vehicle, very capable for long journey with powerful Engine and the durable gearbox. The Engine sound is so nice.
Awesome to see another one of these beauties in the wild. I've had my 80 series for 10 years now, affectionately known as Bakkies Botha. Same spec as this one with the exception of an manual box and no AC. Mine is in GS trim aka farm spec. 360 000 km's and running strong. I've recently had the turbo rebuilt and slightly modified for better flow which now compliments the tuned fuel pump, intercooler and 3inch exhaust even better. The old girl has some poke for a big bus! They come grossly de-tuned and under-powered from factory. Congrats on your purchase Roelf. I can never see myself parting with mine.
Congratulations !! it’s a beast of a vehicle. One of the best Toyota has manufactured. I have the same vehicle but not triple locked . We will meet on the trails. 👍🏼
Awesome video guys 🇿🇦 I’m very fortunate to also have a 95 JDM spec triple locked VX Limited 1HDT HDJ81v and the new Fortuner. There’s still something special about the 80 compared to the new truck. As well as a sense of immense reliability, even though it’s 30-years old, slow and thirsty
I also have a loco catch can and it does help with the blow by - on almost 300k kms now. You guys are without a doubt experts but just my two cents, after owning one for 30-years: Pull the plastic plugs from the body frame rails - they like to hold water. I run the older oil types, exactly per the manual. Add an inter-cooler. Add the water separator type fuel filter. I change the coolant every 50k kms but that’s due to age of the vehicle. The handbrake is useless and only for decoration, like most cruisers. The rear tyre carrier loves to rust - I had mine resprayed with marine grade paint. Basically, I seriously over compensate with maintenance but I’m sure you guys will look after your one with lots of love and respect.
I have a 80 series. doing a complete rebuild to my custom requirements. I have never seen a better 4x4 suv. It has everything i want in a base car, except cupholders 🤣
What a great find. Definitely a unicorn. I wish we got the JDM rear tyre carrier as an option here in Australia, as I really like to retain the OEM rear bumper of my 80 but the ability to carry the spare wheel at the rear. I've been looking for one for while now to no avail. A second option is the Kaymar rear tyre carrier. But the JDM just looks so much better IMO.
It is quite nice! A few 100’s came out with the factory carrier too! I just wonder how truly strong it is, especially when you go bigger than stock tires 👌🏻 going to be a fun build!
My uncle had an 80 series and for years I have been telling him to sell the car because I did not think it was that special and powerful. Ironically when my uncle passes away, I inherited the car and guess what I will not give it away. It is a very strong and capable vehicle. Apologies my uncle
Wow what a story! You will probably keep this car for life if you maintain/prevent rust on it correctly. Value will increase. And you will always be remembered of your uncle when driving it:)
Looks like a great example and a rare find. The JDM 80 Series certainly came with many goodies. Though there is one thing that we got as standard in all our 80 Series (also in 100, 200 series) that we got in Australia, and that is the OEM dual fuel tanks. All 80 Series sold here came with 145L fuel capacity from factory. But many are importing JDM 80 1HZ-FEs for sale here.
The 80's series and 100 series are both great vehicles but holly hell are they expensive especially here in NZ. Even with 400,000kms they still go for over $15,000 compare that to a jimny with less than 100,000kms for around the some price.
I hear you, but it’s so much more vehicle than a Jimny! I picked up my 100 for about $11k and Roelf paid around $26k; a new Jimny here is $30k; but let’s be honest you quickly spend an extra 10k on fixing up these old cruisers 🤣
They realised that they made them too good and long-lasting and that people aren't buying enough new ones. So, now they've perfected planned obsolescence. 😠🤷♂️
That really is a stunning specimin of an 80, it has all the fruit and low kilos. What more could you want? But I would love to know what he paid for it... 🫣
@@RoamOverlandingJudging by the prices I have seen for them lately that is a reasonable price. Still a lot of dough for a 27 year old 80 hey. But they are worth it. I have a 92 model GX with a 1hdt engine swap, fridge and rear aircon too. Manual. Absolutely love my 80! He will love his too. 😁👍🏻
Im so jealous, I have been looking for a clean 80 like this for the last 6 years. What a beautiful, clean example. Take care of her.
They're hard to find these days! 🙌 it’s in really good hands, I don’t know anyone more pedantic than Roelfie! 😂
That is one beautiful 80 series. Congratulations.
It’s going to be a fun build process!

They're amazing vehicles, especially with a turbo diesel 👌
Wow! Proper unicorn. My dad went through 3 80 series, so obviously my first car was an 80 series!
Excellent taste!

Nice one, thanks for the share 🤙👍
Thanks for tuning in!
Great video. What size are those tyres?
They’re 33’s 285/70/17
@@RoamOverlanding thanks
I think it should be 285/75R16 on those rims

Why is it that manufacturers can't listen to the public and build cars like this today.
They realised that they made them too good and long-lasting and that people aren't buying enough new ones. So, now they've perfected planned obsolescence. 😠🤷♂️
Sometimes it's the government regulations that prevent them from doing so, but mostly it's us buyers, we demand things that are not necessary
Hey!! What location are you at? Is this open to the public for 4x4ing?
Hey buddy! It’s actually Roelf’s Mine so it’s not open to the public unfortunately 🤙🏻
where is this I would love to try this in my car
🤣👏🏻 private land
Picanha 🥩 😋
I am really starting to dislike this Roelfie character😂
