I taught myself piano on a kids electronic toy that was similar to a piano. You played it by following the color coded music with the colored keys. I just translated it to the piano from there.
Is that a Hohner student model? Looks like from opening. Had and gave to friend as I have 3 other ones, which, unfortunately don’t have that terrific opening (no need for mouthpiece).
My kid and I are playing a word game and she found that word, but we didn’t know what the heck that was. This was the first one we clicked on. Sounds nice, but she said it’s a piano-phone 😂😂 I like her version way better 😂 ❤
@@ytchannel000 definitely not true. Reed material and case material amongst 9ther things effect the sound. That said, if you're a beginner, get any of them. Just expect the cheaper ones might come out of tune. Yamaha p32d or p37d is a solid instrument if you're looking to spend a bit more. Same with suzuki mc 32 or mc 37
Apparently, the melodica is more responsive to breath control (so, for vibrato and dynamics) when you do not use a mouth piece. As far as I can tell, the best players prefer either no mouthpiece or the trumpet style one. The sax style mouthpiece ranks next and the long bendy tube is last.

Coming from a musician, muscle memory is very important. Most guitarist and pianist never really look at the frets or keys.
