    ALL OF THIS IS SO TRUE. I bought my Cayman S in September. Its an 07 with 58k on the clock in immaculate condition. Its the most awesome car you could possibly imagine. The balance is amazing, the handling (as long as you don't overcook it in the wet) is perfectly matched to the structure of the car, and its a DRIVERS car. Nothing flash, just an awesome sports car, Matt

    I'm hoping to one day get a cayman.
    I'm a massive Porsche fan but i'm not one of those purists who says only the 911 is a true Porsche, i actually prefer the cayman.

    I agree, a 30min test drive was enough to get me hooked as well. Such great cars! And very practical. It's my daily.
    Enjoy!

    I bought my 986 a two years ago. It's a 2003 and had 20,300 miles, five speed. I drive it everyday! It really was the best choice for what I wanted. I paid $17,000 for it. It is the most versatile car ever; mine is very practical and the two trunks are awesome, plus that flat six power and growl. I now have 51,000 miles on it and have enjoyed them all. Once you drive a Porsche, I definitely think you understand the appeal. I do my own work, oil change costs me 30 mins and maybe $75 for oil and filter. They are easy to work on and uncomplicated to understand. Really enjoy your channel. Keep shifting, man!

  • @shortysmall

    I had an slk 280 before the cayman, and I can say that I didn't miss the convertible. But that could be because I didn't care much for the slk. As for the manual, I had the manual on cayman and it was amazing, but when I test drove the 13 cayman, I loved the PDK more. Plus I was living in Atlanta at the time, and dealing with that traffic, an automatic is great.

    I want a Cayman, but the IMS bearing issue is holding me back. That's one of the reasons that the pre 2009 models are so cheap. If the bearing goes bad, the cost to fix the blown motor can be astronomical. As far as the oil change goes….pull the plug, swap the filter, put the plug back and fill it up with oil. It's just like any other car. cost is about $30.00.

    • @biclighter3222

    • @davidhook7865

      The IMS bearing failure rate is higher in the S version ....... that's why I have the base cayman. A little sacrifice on the horsepower but well worth it.

    Thanks for the review. You come across as a very sensible and articulate guy, at such a young age! Not too many people driving Porsches at your age either. Hope you are aware porsche engines and transmissions are usually built to require a rebuild after 100,000miles, which will cost north of $20,000!

    @caseycolgan8321 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    +mechonomist It's pretty cool to hear you acknowledge how lucky and grateful you are to have had the opportunities that wound up with you owning this car. I'm thinking of buying an s2000 soon, and it's really between the s2000, this car, maybe a 2007 base Vette..obviously the power of a Vette is always attractive and I love the way they look in person. But I'm really drawn to the s2000. My only concern is the lack of power compared to the cayman S. I wouldn't buy a cayman though. Also I was looking at that weird little wing on the back.. haha I'm just thinking to myself that would have been cool when it just came out, but now buying it used you just look at that thing and foresee another expense lol. Let me know what your thoughts are on me getting an s2000. I felt the same way you did, I went to look, and as soon as I sat in it I was like "ooooh I have to have this." Never felt that before

    P.S. Just read one of your comments. - Don't be worried about the intermediate shaft, yours is a 2007 so it should have the newer IMS - Here's a previous post I wrote about the IMS issue - "For all of us concerned about the Porsche IMS Bearing issue - I found a very informative article from Autohaus Hamilton in Australia about the IMS. The article also lists all the models and engines (with engine numbers) that are affected. To read the article just type in “Autohaus Hamilton IMS” into google. The Porsche models that are prone to IMS failure and should be replaced are: - All 986 Boxster models. - 987 Cayman & Boxster models up to engine number 61504715 - All 996 models (not including: GT and Turbo models) - 997 3.6ltr with M96/05 up to engine number 6950745" Good luck.

    I own one, its a good car for sure. However it lacks the soul of my previous lotus elise. Still i wouldnt buy another lotus unless i wasnt using it as a daily driver. For daily driving my cayman s is great, even in bad weather if driven sensibly its no issue. The car looks good but it doesnt attract all that much attention. Its just another porsche in most peoples opinions. In the Lotus you almost always attract possitive attention but in the porsche often people assume you're an asshole.
    My only annoyance with the cayman are the windows. When the car is frozen over the windows wont roll down which results in the doors not shutting properly until the car warms up and frees the mechanism from ice.

      @obi-wankenobi7160 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine is an 08 2.7 with 75k miles. I pay 390 a month for 5 years. Thats with a 5.5% interest rate. One thing to look at is with a 10+ year old car.. Intrest rate will be high even with excellent credit. I also paid a premium because it came from Jim Ellis Porsche dealership in ATL. Insurance with progressive full coverage is 135$ a month. Most expensive part though is the shop work. Cost me 1150$ for water pump/thermostat replacement. Cost 750$ for ignition coils. I do my own oil changes. Planning to do my own brakes. Full brake job pad/rotors/sensors is about 1500$. Adds up quickly, that is with all OEM parts but NOT at dealership. Indy shops typically charge 115-140$ an hour for work on these cars. Definitely not cheap but it is by far worth it to be able to drive a mid engined Porsche that looks similar to a Ferrari Dino 🦕 !

    70k miles is high? It’s a porsche not a damn princess car like a Lambo. Drive the damn thing. Well maintain higher mileage is better than one that sits in a garage.

    Ok so I’m in high school and I have been working on a fishing boat in Alaska and I made 40,000 but from taxes I have around 26,000... so should I get a BRZ or a cayman base

      +subie skyline34 never driven one, but I love the look. I've heard that the Turbo is awesome and I was looking for one too before I found my cayman.

      It’ll be tight, but I think they’d technically fit.

    Caymans are for some reason more pricey than the Boxster as I found a Boxster for 10k with 60k miles but a cayman with same miles but 15k

    You might have just lost a wheel weight on that wheel, it might not be bent.

    75k miles is barely broken in for a German car

    I got my 2006 cayman s manual for 15k with 125,000 miles on it...runs great.
    I’ll put 250,000 and still have the fastest car around 👍 stay
