I bought the Videomic Go 2 a couple of weeks back and used on yesterdays video from 3 ft in an untreated room. Applied bass boost from iMovie if people want to listen.
I’m honestly loving this mic more than the Rode Videomic NTG that cost more than TWICE the price! It seem to have a more directional pick up and I even love it more than my Shure MV7!
I've been using this mic since about August of 2023, attached to my Canon camcorder. The difference in sound quality over the built-in mic is amazing! As my channel grows, I plan to use it in other ways, and it's nice to know this is an all-in-one mic for my needs. Great video!
You guys at Think Media are really inspiring. I've followed your channel for a long time, and I love how you guys are constantly evolving and improving. You practice what you preach and you give the best advice. Hopefully one day I'll be brave enough to start my own channel with all the knowledge you guys have given me. Keep crushing it
I just got the mic and it's not working with my honor phone 🙃 what the hell I have to do with the cable 🙈😅 a starter video from rode would be nice, like first steps.
Don't cover the "interference tube holes" on the side of the mic if you clamp it (3:18)! They are there to make the mic pickup pattern more "sharp" and "delete" the sound waves from off axis.
Amazing video! I went ahead and ordered the mic with the Manfrotto mini tripod, but just a heads up the standard thread wont work with the Rode Go ll. You will need a thread adapter for anyone wanting to use this setup and set it up straight out of the box!

It looks like you live in Rhodes Ranch in the SouthWest part of Las Vegas. I built 2 microphones myself which are better than Neumann top of the line microphones. It cost me about $100 each. Having a degree in Electronics helped.
Crazy I've been looking for this mic for a few days as I seen it on another video but didn't catch the name. Pull up TH-cam and seen this video! Instantly went and purchased it for my new TH-cam channel! Thanks for all the clear, well presented information!
I just picked one up and the first tests have been great. I'll be using it over the next week as the main mic on my camera rig to record trade show interviews.
*i love RODE products. I own Both the Rode Wireless Go and Go II along with The VideoMic Go II and All of them along with my Rode Lavalier Mic Work AMAZING!!. Defiantly worth the Money & Value , Also I wanted to know what cord you're using to make the VideoMic GO II a Boom Mic. I wouldn't mine doing this myself but none of the cords that come with the rode are long enough and I don't know what to get to make it longer, if you could give me some incite on this that would be Great*
Thanks for this video! I just ordered and excitedly waiting for it to arrive. Been using my old cheap microphone and it kept failing on me. This is a good choice because I can truly grow with it. I yet to own a camera that has audio jack, but probably one day I will. I like that this mic can be used as a table mic as well. Thank you so much. Truly needed this for my 10th video. I’m fed up of seeing my audio fail on me.

Vegas you say? I'll be there in a month for DefCon. Looking forward to the heat /s Mic sounds great for the price and seems quite versatile since there's no need for an external power source. Might pick it up.
It is a condenser mic which means it picks sound from all directions. This is a problem because when I first started I did not know the differences between a Condensor Mic and a dynamic mic and so I bought a condenser mic. You need a soundproof room to use a condenser! I later zeroed on anything dynamic and noise canceling. since I am not a sound professional and a starter, I lost many funds in buying equipment and I didn't know. I am using the Rode pro caster with the dbx 286s.
Brother what should I buy for making videos for yt ,but I am starter and have only one video and I do like kinda adding photos to make videos ,also less cash for me
@@loophole590 Buy sm7b and nuiman ndh30 headphones. Save ur money for the best or don't start. Buying cheap will cost you more having to replace. Go big or go home brother ✌️
your video sounds super clear. I really don't know how to configure this microphone, it sounds the same as the one on my phone, but I know it's due to my ignorance. Do you have any parameters that you can recommend in connect/central? I wish I sounded as cool you
I have one of these mics. I’m extremely impressed for the price. It compares well with my Rode NTG and my expensive Audio Technica shot gun. It is a little hot so I can’t use it on my GH5s in most situations but it works a treat on my GH5 ii and my GH6 because I can set the gain to -18 db. I shoot live theatre, concerts and dance shows.
Will this work as a boom mic for skits and mini movies? Also most new apple products use a lightning to usb-c for charging so the cable that came with the apple device should work just fine, at least that is what I gather from what you're saying
@@JohnBradford14 very true but currently I’m on a budget of $0 dollars so I’m looking for something that I can use for awhile and then eventually upgrade to a higher quality mic once I have the funds.
Please advise, in the very beginning there is a tripod with an iPhone on it, is it the same tripod that is in the description? I'm looking for one for an iPhone and this microphone. Thank you in advance
I am using the Rode SmartLav+. Love it you can hear the difference from my first 3 or 4 videos before I got it were terrible. Then I did an unboxing with the first half using the cameras on-board Mic then switching over the the Rode SmartLav+ and all I can say is wow.
Big fan of the channel! I am looking at buying the Sony ZV-E10 and trying to toss up between a 16mm or 30mm lens to capture my classrooms lessons for students who are away. Ideally, the camera will be at the back of the classroom. However, I want a lens that will capture myself, the whiteboard with a nice crisp look, no blur or out of focus shots etc. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for your video! Would you recommend a mic to connect to my phone and can record kid’s recital when I sit at the audience and the performer is on the stage? I assume this Go II won’t be powerful enough? TIA
You need an OTG adapter to connect to mobile. They're 10 dollars, dont buy the RODE one. Also the mic quality for $100 is very lack luster, it's fine, but you can get way better sound for $100. However it is a versatile mic, thats why I like it.
I am really curious as how these newer gen mics compare to some of the older higher-end ones. For example, I have the Rode Video Mic Pro+, which is a few years old now. Is the tech better, more advanced now that a less expensive mic like this one sounds the same or better than an older, higher-end mic.
That Pro + will outlast the newer Rode mics as all mics with built in batteries have a shelf life vs the one you have with external batteries. Also no one ever really wants to really talk about the distortion issues with the Rode Go II and Videomic NTG when exposed to non controlled environments vs the microphone you currently own which has none of these issues.
*Hi Omar! This sounds really good! I just bought the DJI Wireless Mic system. What is the lens that you have on your smartphone at **0:49** in the video?*
Nice, here's my plan, I go busking with a small Cube Street 2 amp, and would like to record my sets, just with GoPro, and this mic in front of the amp to really pick up the actual sound people in the street are hearing, (a bit like micing a cab with a 57). I do have "proper" mics but that would mean interface/laptop in street etc, too much work... Anyone tried this? would it work? Cheers!
Which accessory did you use to actually attach it to your smart phone? Is it a grip? I cant figure out how people get their mics to stick on top of their phones

It’s just a phone tripod that has a hole where you can attach the microphone or small led light.
I am a new channel, and I am recording magic the gathering commander. This is a top down view of a 3'x6' table top. I want to either have a nice mic that can capture everyone, or maybe 4 lavs, one for each player. I recently got a great trade on a canon XC10 so I record 4k video, I am curious what mic system you would recommend? I was looking at the RØDE - VIDEOMIC PRO Compact Shotgun Microphone, but wasnt sure the audio clarity of the 4 players voices, if the camera / mic are suspended above the table, or if i should just go with a 4 mic lav system. if so, which system would you recommended? Thanks a ton, and I truly appreciate content creators such as yourself.
Am i wrong in understanding that only TRS Audio input can go into iphone and not the USB-c to lightning as you said ? Thinking to purchase based on excellent recommendation - it is a small point but need to understand compatibility before diving into purchase - many thanks
