Are Comics getting too expensive?

- Nerd Morning everyone! My name is Jeremy and I talk comics, movies, games and more. Today we are talking about comics and the concept of price. Comics have been going up in price and there are a few reasons why comic books have maybe had that type of price increase. if the they are good reasons or bad reasons it is up to you to decide. Ultimately do you think that comics have gotten too expensive?

Oh my gosh this was really interesting! There’s a lot of that goes into making a comic and the creators deserve to be paid well. But I do doubt that the extra money is going to them. It’s not going towards making a better product. It’s going to line corporate pockets like you mentioned. They’ll use things like inflation to excuse increasing the price of things without increasing the wages of people who actually make the things to match. I like that you mentioned about these other bigger money making projects drawing from the comics. The comic industry directly might not be bringing in the big bucks. But what it creates has been feeding the bigger projects like movies and games for a long time now. By not giving them enough support through paying the creatives and making comics accessible and affordable, they’re going to kill their golden goose and those poor executives won’t get their bonuses 😱😱😱
Killing the golden goose is a really good analogy. Those were some fantastic thoughts to add to this conversation.
I cut back on collecting a lot of new books due to the cost of the books. I still spend the same amount per month but I just by a lot less issue. When I started collecting book where 20-25 cents a piece so it's very hard for me to swallow these new pieces.
Yeah. That is a really good point. The consumers (us) are getting less and less for the same price and that totally sucks.
Judging by comic creators working for the big companies, they seem to not be getting paid any better. Honestly, i want marvel comics division to be seperate from disney entirely, because the top dogs will not see comics as important as a standalone, comics company. Comics are failing to capitalize on these new graphic novel readers (manga readers), and you demonstrated that here. Closest series to replicating manga/anime is invincible (for now)
