Best RX100V real-world review I've ever watched. Being as an V owner myself, I still feel the need to learn how to take full advantage of it. Nonetheless, the RX100 series is the last defense of portable point-and-shoot against high-end smartphone cameras. I hope Sony keep it up with the Mark Vii.
Yeah, I just bought a RX100 VA for less than 600€, a lot cheaper than the newer models, and zero downsides for what I do (faster lens, ND filter, I do not care about not having 200mm).
You got it right ,no reason to update I have the Mk5 and for me the bigger lens is a no go.Personally I think they got it wrong a 24-100 would of been perfect ,with keeping to the f1.8
Thanks for your excellent review. You mentioned the zoom limitation on the Mark V. I’ve heard from multiple reviewers that Sony’s “clear image zoom” allows near 100mm zoom on this camera with very little image quality degradation. I cannot verify yet as my Mark VA is being shipped right now. Side note: The Mark VA might go down as the GOAT among RX100’s since it keeps the fast 1.8-2.8 lens but adds the Mark VI’s processing, software and image quality tweaks. No touch screen or fully tilting display, but maybe the best feature suite overall. Got mine from Tri-State Camera for “only” $718. Cant wait to try it out. Thanks again. Cheers!
Vaughan Branch Hi, Thank you. In my opinion clear image zoom looks bad at full zoom. It is just digital zoom with some software processing going on to smooth things out. I use it but only when I am more concerned with capturing something interesting than getting good image quality. I’m glad it’s there because it’s better than nothing. Yes if I was buying one now I think I’d choose the VA. The 1.8 gives significant low light improvement and shallow DOF. The ND filter is essential for my outdoor video work too. I think you chose well, my friend. I think you will really love it. I still love my V.
I don't have problem with Sony menus. People must be retarded. On a video shoot with A7s II i changed every setting in the cameras in under 5minutes. A Nikon that I had an entire day I never got the hang of..
great review :) now with the RX100 VA out they changed the menu (so it's like on the VI) and the processor, but still kept it to be non-touchscreen, 24-70 f/1.8 and ND filters .. not having any RX100 yet, i think i will opt for the VA instead of the VI, mostly for the faster lens, but i'm not fully certain yet
Your review is the most honest and synoptical I have seen, I also totally agree with You, that size and portability is such an amazing advantage of this fantastic camera! I have the RX100 M1 and was ready to buy the M3, but after realising that the HFR mode will give me a lot more creativity options, I decided to pay a more and get the M5. Honestly I am a little disappointed about the M6. Instead of 24-200 a 24-120 with F1.4-3,2 would have been a much better choice. That's just my opinion because RX always stood for very bright lens in a small Camera. Best whishes!
Nice vid. I’ve only had my V for a few months but agree with everything you say about it. The menu system is atrocious, it’s fiddly in my big hands, has limited zoom and not much macro capability (especially compared to my G15 that it replaced as my point and shoot) but then you flip on the video and all is forgiven. Those frame rates are amazing, even better on a small gimbal, the image holds its own alongside my XA-30, 5D4 and 80D, and it gets you b-roll shots that nothing else can do at this price point. Just an incredible piece of kit. Love it.
As a Wedding Pro, I have ALWAYS wanted more than my DSLR + 24-70 f2.8 zoom lens -- especially at the longer end. That said, I have that lens on the the camera for 80% of the Wedding. To have that in a pocket camera, would be awesome, but that 70mm zoom will never get any longer. I've heard that the lens quality has dropped with the Mark 6, so I'm in a quandary as well. Still thinking.
Yeah it's a tricky one when they add great features but take others away and make sacrifices. The extra zoom would be fantastic but if the rumours of the new lens being less sharp are true, that's not good news. Let's hope the final retail version will be fine. Time will tell.
Excellent view, Roo! And very well produced. I started my channel a year ago with only a RX100V. A magnificent little tool! I have since added the A6500 with a couple lenses, but my RX has become my second camera on the shoot. The canned profiles are better than the A6500.
Personally I think this is a brilliant camera and video recorder, till you can step up specialise in other cameras this is a definite carry all day camera which enables you to enjoy your photography I'm lovin it and pictures are lovely.
Thank you so much for this review. I am looking at the moment in either buying the V or the previous model the IV. I would love it for pics and vlogging.
Just bought today a Mk V... I prefer an 1.8-2.8 aperture and 24-70 equivalent zoom than a less bigger less with little aperture on a 1" sensor. Waiting for an RX 10 afterwards maybe ...
Atelier Digital anciennement Linstit - I’m with you. With these little sensors the more light we can get onto the sensor the better. That new F/2.8 lens will struggle in low light more than the RX100V. The zoom is amazing though. Some people will be willing to trade less light for extended reach. It’s nice to have options.
I have the RX100M1 and it's a brilliant thing. I'm definitely going to invest in the M6 as it's a huge step up - maybe not so for the M5, but from the original it definitely looks to be worth it. My father was so impressed with the M1's quality but for him zoom is a big deal and it was the 3.6x limitation that put him off. For me this looks like an ideal compact to keep around when I don't want something bulky, and I bet those are the sort of people it'll sell to. This also looks like it'll be a great video companion to the Panasonic GH5 if you don't want to buy multiples of them, but maybe just for the B-roll.
Haha yeah she's a crazy fluff ball. I have been so impressed with the Rx100V for video work that I'm starting to wonder if I should switch from the Canon mirrorless cameras to the A6300. I know video is excellent but how do you find it for stills?
Oh I actually predominantly only use my A6300 for still photography! The images are gorgeous, sharp, excellent in low light (photography on my blog if you wanted to take a look anythingbutsalad.com/). It's a powerful little camera, especially when you pair it with your fav lenses! I don't know much about the Canon mirrorless! We shoot video for my YT channel on the GH5. Totally the other direction - lol (because my husband is a Panasonic loyalist). But for video I also know that the sony a7riii is a monster.
They said they can't put internal ND filter on such a long zoom range, which sucks, as well as losing stop or so of light. On the other hand it does give an impressive and still sharp range. I guess its best to keep with Mark V for those that need those features. Its still made and less expensive.
Nicely done... and whole hearted agree. Waited for months for the VI to be announced and just this week decided to go with the V. The extra reach of the VI was not worth forfeiting the f1.8. 24-70mm is a very practical range while keeping the lens bright and sharp. Otherwise, the only real addition was the touch screen on the VI -- which is not a plus for me. Add the premium cost of the VI and the V is a bargain.
Great review. Recently got a mark 5 for a nice price since it has already been replaced by the 5A. I totally agree with your assessment. The mark 5 is much more bang for the buck compared to the.mark 6. Also on build quality my unit is at least as well built as the G7x mark2 that I tested at the store.
Excellent video! I have been looking for the perfect camera for about a month now and somehow I came across the rx100 series and I am intrigued. I am not a professional by any stretch and will only be taking casual photos. I mainly love to take photos nature in my backyard and family. So since I do not have experience with any of the Rx100's could you make a suggestion. The zoom of the vi appeals to me since I would like to take pictures of the many birds in my yard. My Iphone 6 just could not capture a bald eagle flying across the lake across from my house. And I can't seem to tear myself away from the Rx100 series. I have looked at the Sony HX80, Nikon B700, and a lumix of some sort but I keep coming back to the Rx100 series. I did not really want to spend $1200. But I dont wantto be dissapointed and have to purchase another camera. Any advice would be helpful. Also I have only seen that eagle once in 6 months. I keep leaning towards the M3. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
Michele Gateley Hi, it sounds like your main use would be for photographing nature, wildlife and family. You didn’t mention video or slow motion so I will assume it’s mainly stills you’re interested in. The RX100iii is a great compact camera and can be found at bargain prices. But like all the RX100s apart from the new VI, the zoom is very limited. So wildlife will be hard to capture. The VI would work really well for birds. If you don’t mind a larger body, the RX10iii is excellent for wildlife. It’s basically a RX100IV in a larger body with a huge zoom range. Then there’s the Panasonic Lumix ZS200. It has a huge zoom range (24-360mm eqv.), but the lens is not as sharp as the Sony. It’s cheaper though and still a very nice compact camera.
Tony's Journal Thanks and yes, it may be a good time to snap up a discounted V soon. Some people are selling their lightly used V to get the VI, so bargains are popping up.
Hi great review and fantastic dog. I’m extremely amateur and I basically only take pics of my dogs running around with my origional mk1 rx100. The problem I have is the autofocus often randomly focuses on anything other than the dog, I’m thinking the mk6 with touch screen I can tell it to focus on the dog the af tracking will keep it there. I’m thinking the mk5 will have the same issue as the mk 1. I miss so many great shots because it’s focused on a piece of grass instead of the dog. Do you feel it’s worth the extra for me for the mk6?
P J Hi, The V has tracking focus too. Mine is set so I can press the centre button to lock onto an object, then it will track that object wherever it goes and maintain focus. A touch screen is not necessary for that. If the touch screen on the VI was more useful I would recommend it for that but it’s so incredibly limited. What really makes the VI a worthwhile upgrade for many is the 200mm zoom lens. For me though, I can’t live with the ND filter being missing on the VI.
Nice review, without all the technical overkill and specs as usual. I ordered my RX100 VA today as an portable and daily in my pocket addition to my A7iii for just 760 Euros, because it has the same great AF and the "my menu" feature, that will make handling more comfortable than with the Mk V or it's predecessors. I ordered the additional grip too and 3rd party batteries for more juice.
I just got my Sony RX100 V and when I watch my videos back I can hear a knocking in them when I move. I stopped filming and then even turned the camera off and I can hear this knocking when it shakes, even very mildly moving it can have this knocking sound. How do you get around this?!?
Nice review and very mellow to watch. Well done. I just rented a RX 100 vi to take to a indoor concert venue where they always make me check my Nikon D750. So I wanted to see what I could do with something that fits in my pocket. The video result was pretty amazing. The other images were not bad but are grainy in low light and nothing like a full frame DSLR with an F2.8 lens. So - is the mark 5 going to be better in my indoor concert venues? Better bokeh and lower resulting ISO with less grain? Can anyone tell me what they have found?
Chris The F1.8 lens on the V versus the 2.8 on the VI makes quite a big difference in low light. These little 1” sensors, amazing as they are, do struggle in low light, so the the wider the aperture, the better. But the great thing about the VI is the 200mm focal length which would be useful at concerts if you aren’t close enough to the stage. It’s a tough choice.
Btw the sensor in the Vi is the same as the V, so the V will do better in low light for sure. Also you should get the VA! Along the Vi they released a revision of the V with the same upgraded focus system, better colors and my menu feature! The perfect compact camera for me at least.
I'm still comparing the RX100V (and newer VA) & RX100VI. One thing that I've heard is that Sony "store" doesn't work anymore for any Sony cameras and getting the Time Lapse app is pretty much impossible with a newly purchased camera. It doesn't appear there's any software/firmware based time lapse option possible anymore and that would require an external intervalometer. Is this the case? Seems so silly of Sony to take away such a feature from a small camera and require an external unit nearly the same size of the camera for this basic function. Kinda bummed I didn't get a 5 with this feature earlier. Any advice or some option I'm missing?
Eric Mitchell Yeah that’s the case currently. When I bought my RX100V it still had the app store feature but despite many attempts, I couldn’t get the time lapse app because the Playmemories store had a bug in its payment system and on the website. PlayMemories feels very much like an old, unsupported, abandoned service.
you also forgot to mention the lack of the 3-stop ND filter on the VI. For my use, having the slower lens + no built in ND filter just doesn't compensate for the additional reach =\. For a non- photographer/videographer though the extra zoom is probably worth it though
I am considering buying the mark 3. Could you tell me your thoughts on the video and image quality on that one? I know it does not have 4k video but I heard that the 4k function on the mark IV and mark V causes the camera to overheat. I'm also not sure I could play 4k footage on my computer?
Megan Brennan The mark 3 is still a great camera and is now much more affordable. 4k on the later models is not useful to me because the camera overheats after a few minutes and before long it powers off. By the time I have everything set up and have done a couple of test shots, it overheats. So for me the 4K feels like a gimmick. The iii doesn’t have high frame rates for slow motion and its buffer is smaller. However, if I hadn’t needed the high frame rates (120fps and higher) I would have been very happy with the iii. It takes great video at 1080p 60p and the lens is sharp and fast.
I bought a HX90v after I saw the price of the RX100. Since most of my video is seen only on smartphones or laptops, the camera is perfectly adequate for what I do. I bought mine used for $250usd ...instead of in the $1000 dollar range. I just can't complain about the 1080p video quality this camera can produce. There is a new model, the HX99 ... I probably wouldn't upgrade, because I don't shoot 4k. But if I was buying a new camera in this category .. no RX100 for me.
Hasibuzzaman Tonmoy I would say the RX100V is the better choice for image/video quality. The Panasonic has some cool features though, like stop motion photography. It’s also cheaper. The Sony is hard to beat for quality though.
I would go the M5, and if you need zoom or mic inputs, get the RX10 M4. Though I would like to see an M5 come out with 4K/60p. I hope they don’t compromise speed for convenience though.
nice review and cute dog!! i am thinking whether to go for m5, coz i dont think m6 is worth the price difference even tho m5 is still so exp.....but also want to wait and see if canon realease g7iii perhaps...?
Young360 I think it comes down to whether or not you need the longer zoom of the 6 or the faster (brighter) lens of the 5. I need faster and I also value the ND filter on the 5 too much to let it go. It’s so useful to me. If Canon release a G7X3 that has the same slow motion modes I would be very interested. I hope they are working on another G7X!
Roo's Views thanks for the reply. i am also waiting for a6700, if a6700 has a proper flip screen then i feel i dont really need rx100....otherwise, it may be gadget overload :p but yeah i think mark v may be enuf for me, too.
Roo's Views hi - I went for the V rather than the six. Will be posting a video about why I did that, but, basically, I wanted the ND filter and the wider aperture. I have also ordered an RX10 iv - this will give me longer reach and will be my main stills camera, whereas the RX100 v will be mostly for video and for candid unplanned/grab shots when I might not otherwise have had a camera with me.
I bought a M4 used for really cheap. The M5 has larger buffer and better auto focus, therefore I don't feel missed out. I use it for stills as I got a Blackmagic for video.
Hi Roo great video thanks :) Im a land artist and looking to buy a camera to capture artworks I make - Im good with light and composition but don't have much technical knowledge! this camera looks perfect for me but will I be able to make large prints from the raw files? Thanks Suzie
suzie Killick Those would be huge prints. The files taken on the RX100’s 1” sensor just won’t look good blown up to that size unless you’re standing quite some distance away. Prints that large are the domain of higher resolution sensors as found in the Sony A7Rii, Nikon Z7 or medium format cameras.
If I had a Mk v I doubt I'd upgrade. But I have a Mk ii and I think I'll go for the Mk vi. I'll still have the f/1.8 on the Mk ii if I need it. I really want the better AF and the pop-up viewfinder, and the 200 mm zoom is more important for my typical uses than is the faster lens on the Mk v. Enjoyed the video, BTW.
24-200 is awesome but is it worth risking the aperture? I don't think so. Also, i'm still not sure whether to go for the Sony or canon g7xii. What do you think?
라사 If you don’t need the advanced video features of the Sony I would recommend the G7Xii. It’s a lot more affordable and you get the Canon still image colour science.
Great review. Nice footage that showcase the RX100 V. I totally agree that this is even better than the newer mark VI due to the faster lens. And Canon / Panasonic still have nothing that even touches the RX100 V to this date. I searched hard for an alternative, there simply isn't.
Arnel Enero Yeah I love my RX100V. Even my Canon M6 cannot compete with it for video work. There is still nothing like it on the market after all these years. I hope Canon or Panasonic hit us with something with the same performance.
can we put only the RX 100 VI lens part to the RX 100 V body.. if we could do this then we could achieve something great camera. since the both RX 100 V and VI bodies are exactly same in size, looks and likely to be exchanged the parts of their bodies in one to another. if this is possible then we can get both camera in second hand then make legendary camera out of these two bodies in one.. :D
Grainy HFR video? This is a huge step up from my Casio EX-FC100's 224x64 HFR video at 1000 fps it's incredibly grainy and dark. I still stuck with it since the 210 fps mode still look OK at 480x360 video and this RX100 M4 and M5 price still too expensive I got that high speed Casio for $45.
Hi can you tell me the higher FPS video modes 250fps, 500fps, 960fps when using these modes is the final video already slowed down by the camera or can you save the video at each of these FPS before it is slowed down? I am wanting to use twixtor on my pc to slow footage down even more and better
marklola12 The file is already converted to a lower frame rate in-camera. There is no way to access the 960fps file as it is held in the buffer, then converted to a lower fps when saving to the memory card.
i've been taking pictures with my phone my whole life...but now that i've started to travel the world....i'm thinking of investing in a nice camera. I have no clue where to start. Is the sony rx100 v worth it for the price? My budget is around the $1000 range or so
bob johnson I got a deal on mine and use it for work so it was very much worth it to me. However, if your main use is travelling you may not need the advanced features like log profiles and super slow motion. The Canon G7X2 and Panasonic LX10 are both very nice, similar alternatives at much lower costs. And they don’t overheat like the Sony RX100 series do.
Hi,I don't think it's a minor upgrade switching from a 24-70 mm lens to a 24-200 mm lens.The shooting experience,especially if you like action & sports shots, changes drastically.Bye!
ZLATAN AGREES The video quality and low light capability with that F/1.8 lens works well for concerts but the microphones are not good. Music won’t sound very good when you play it back but it’ll capture the experience.
For my trip to vietnam i'm planning to buy the MIV. Mainly for video but also for pictures. Is it still good or should i get the MV? Are there a lot of differences. Thanks in advance :)
laurens van egmond The IV is very close to the V. For holiday photos and videos the results will be the same. I would have bought the IV but I wanted the slightly longer slow motion recording time and I got a good deal on the V.
I just gotta say that I'm mesmerized of how beautiful this review is. Seriously, I'm speechless. If you're interested, I would love to give you a logo redesign at no cost. It would be an honor for me :) Your work is amazing
Amazing video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 feel so calm when watching your video of dogs running and beautiful scenery, did you make more videos by using rx100v? Can share with us? Thanks !
If anyone likes the RX100V but it’s a little too expensive, the RX100IV is 95% as capable and has now come down in price: amzn.to/2tXc7Ut
yet another dumb video, if anyone likes rx100 v he will just buy it chaper than new mk4 on ebay anytime
How does the mark iv (4) measure up to the mark v in video stabilization and auto focus? If the same I think mark 4 would be good for me?
@@highestvirtue1892 No image stabilisation and also a lot slower than M5.
I disagree, no phase detect af just makes it way less capable... and its just out of reach compared to the VA
Excellent video man! I agree 100% with you!
Photo-Me-Ike Thank you!
6:07 Slow mo doggo looking majestic. Great video mate

I agree. Keep your Mark 5.
Long live the RX100VA, even in 2020, for video (ND filter internal) and photos (fast 1.8 lens) 👍

I still love mine after all these years.
Excellent review, Do you remember all the settings you used shooting outdoors ? Thanks
No, sorry, I made this video quite a few years ago.
+1 for the non touchscreen. It's annoying that things can get clicked so easily, I always disable the touch funciton on my other cameras.

Micaël Chevalley the mark 5 has digital zoom as well. Not bad on lossless mode. But a 200mm is great. I would get the vi over the v
I bought the 6 and then returned it for the 5 due to no PlayMemories App on the 6 as I use the Time Lapse App quite often. The 5 suits me much better.

Mark V for the 1.8 aperture and ND filter, I suspect it produces sharper images than the new model as well
I agree on the ND filter. Some days I'd be lost without it. It's disappointing that they omitted it on the mk6.
They said they can't put internal ND filter on such a long zoom range, which sucks, as well as losing stop or so of light. On the other hand it does give an impressive and still sharp range. I guess its best to keep with Mark V for those that need those features. Its still made and less expensive.
Totally agree, I’m keeping my RX100V!
Finally a great camera review that is about the camera. two thumbs up!
this is the best review I've found!
Lamont Gilliland I’m completely with you. Those were my thoughts exactly.
This is the video i've been looking for ! Very good, thanks
Julien Thanks for the comment!
Thanks so much for you input!
Spot on mate! Mark V all the way! I hope they reduce a bit more the price on the mark V in order to buy it
Tony's Journal Thanks and yes, it may be a good time to snap up a discounted V soon. Some people are selling their lightly used V to get the VI, so bargains are popping up.
They usually hold their value pretty well the mark 4 is only 100 bucks cheaper
You have a bedroom voice
lol wtf
Many thanks
Big negative for me is the zoom , please to hear that mark6 is going to address that . Why don't they include the grip?
With the advent of VI, this was the review I was looking for. Thanks!
John Kelm Thank you!
Some great shots ... and ... what an adorable little doggie :)
Can u use thise for mountain biking? Picture wise, point and shoot, capturing the moment WHILE the rider is riding his/her bike?
Nice review, without all the technical overkill and specs as usual.
I ordered my RX100 VA today as an portable and daily in my pocket addition to my A7iii for just 760 Euros, because it has the same great AF and the "my menu" feature, that will make handling more comfortable than with the Mk V or it's predecessors. I ordered the additional grip too and 3rd party batteries for more juice.
Michael Günter Thank you. Your decisions sound good to me. The RX100 is a very good sidekick to the A7iii.
Excellent review. Thanks for sharing.
It’s a tough choice.
is the dynamic range a bit low or were the clips overexposed on purpose?
Hi Roo, do you still feel the same way about the RX100 M5 in 2019 or have you found anything to better this fantastic camera which I also own ? 👍
Btw the sensor in the Vi is the same as the V, so the V will do better in low light for sure.
Also you should get the VA! Along the Vi they released a revision of the V with the same upgraded focus system, better colors and my menu feature! The perfect compact camera for me at least.
Such a great camera. I'd be lost without it.
Thanks for the detail review
More Locations You’re very welcome. Thanks for watching.
PlayMemories feels very much like an old, unsupported, abandoned service.
what settings do you recommend for videovlogging on the mark 4???
I have a Nikon D5100 with 24/70 lens and a prime 50mm 1.8 lens. Should I sell this equipment to buy this RX100V?
Just got mine. Lost my mark 4. I love the upgraded in body stabilization
you also forgot to mention the lack of the 3-stop ND filter on the VI. For my use, having the slower lens + no built in ND filter just doesn't compensate for the additional reach =\. For a non- photographer/videographer though the extra zoom is probably worth it though
WushuSinned I agree. The ND filter is so useful on my V that I don’t think I could do without it now.
Very nice, intelligent and useful video.
Thank you very much.
In terms of picture quality, which one would you suggest, RX100V or the Panasonic Lumix LX10?
Hasibuzzaman Tonmoy I would say the RX100V is the better choice for image/video quality. The Panasonic has some cool features though, like stop motion photography. It’s also cheaper. The Sony is hard to beat for quality though.
I would go the M5, and if you need zoom or mic inputs, get the RX10 M4. Though I would like to see an M5 come out with 4K/60p. I hope they don’t compromise speed for convenience though.
i still can't afford mark V in 2018 you know
still damn expensive
HaiNam Nguyen Yeah it’s still quite expensive. I bought mine as a returned unit and saved $100-200.
But Sony has updated their default color profile for the mark 6.
Great review! Up you go and keep making these awesome videos :)
Lets see what it can do at night mode
nice review and cute dog!! i am thinking whether to go for m5, coz i dont think m6 is worth the price difference even tho m5 is still so exp.....but also want to wait and see if canon realease g7iii perhaps...?
Young360 I think it comes down to whether or not you need the longer zoom of the 6 or the faster (brighter) lens of the 5. I need faster and I also value the ND filter on the 5 too much to let it go. It’s so useful to me.
If Canon release a G7X3 that has the same slow motion modes I would be very interested. I hope they are working on another G7X!
Roo's Views thanks for the reply. i am also waiting for a6700, if a6700 has a proper flip screen then i feel i dont really need rx100....otherwise, it may be gadget overload :p but yeah i think mark v may be enuf for me, too.
if both camera rx100V & rx100Vi same price ,which one better ...!?
Just bought one and about to put it to the test on an overnight camping trip on Dartmoor.
DSLR Life - Nigel Bailey nice! Did you choose the 5 or the 6?
Roo's Views hi - I went for the V rather than the six. Will be posting a video about why I did that, but, basically, I wanted the ND filter and the wider aperture. I have also ordered an RX10 iv - this will give me longer reach and will be my main stills camera, whereas the RX100 v will be mostly for video and for candid unplanned/grab shots when I might not otherwise have had a camera with me.
DSLR Life - Nigel Bailey Those are the reasons I prefer the V too. I like your channel with the hike+photograph vlogs. I just subscribed. Thanks.
do use some sort of gimbal for the videos? or handheld?
Handheld.
I bought a M4 used for really cheap. The M5 has larger buffer and better auto focus, therefore I don't feel missed out. I use it for stills as I got a Blackmagic for video.
MrVipitis I almost bought the mkIV. It has almost everything the mkV has but I bought the V for the improved slow motion.
Hi Roo great video thanks :) Im a land artist and looking to buy a camera to capture artworks I make - Im good with light and composition but don't have much technical knowledge! this camera looks perfect for me but will I be able to make large prints from the raw files? Thanks Suzie
suzie Killick Hi Suzie, how large do you need to go with the prints?
Hi!! Id love to be able to print up to A1 or 3ft x 3ft . . .
suzie Killick Those would be huge prints.
Do u have the mic jack?
No. As far as I know, no RX100 model has a mic jack.
im still using my mk 2. the video is great, the downside is, it has no image stabilization. i have also the old g7x but i like the sony.
can shutter speed be locked ISO be locked for video?
I understand IV has slog3. That’s the only thing that makes me wonder
24-200 is awesome but is it worth risking the aperture? I don't think so.
Also, i'm still not sure whether to go for the Sony or canon g7xii. What do you think?
Oh also I am more of a photography person than video, but I shoot both for travel. Prefer good quality pictures over video tbh.
라사 If you don’t need the advanced video features of the Sony I would recommend the G7Xii. It’s a lot more affordable and you get the Canon still image colour science.
My opinion as an owner of the RX100 V = You are 100% correct!
I want the V for a every day pocket camera and youtube vlogging camera
It’ll work well for that.
Just bought the 5 myself. I sold my a73 as this is all I need now
Fantastic video
Helpful review, thumbs up
I wish these compacts would go wider than 24 MM. 18 MM would be a treat.
Purchased my M5 yesterday and it's so small!!!
is it worth it? honestly i cannot afford the mark vi :(
can we put only the RX 100 VI lens part to the RX 100 V body.. if we could do this then we could achieve something great camera. since the both RX 100 V and VI bodies are exactly same in size, looks and likely to be exchanged the parts of their bodies in one to another. if this is possible then we can get both camera in second hand then make legendary camera out of these two bodies in one.. :D
Bishal Shrestha I like that idea!
this is so beautiful shot @3:51
Raj Cg Artist Thank you Raj!
There is no way to access the 960fps file as it is held in the buffer, then converted to a lower fps when saving to the memory card.
is that the same for the 500fps and the 250fps?
marklola12 Yes.
For an upgrade ehhh. But for a first buy the mark 6 would be a better camera to own.
Nice pics/videos... Where do you live?
i've been taking pictures with my phone my whole life...but now that i've started to travel the world....i'm thinking of investing in a nice camera.
Sam Sarg Dong Hi. Yes, I agree. Bye!
Roo's Views Goodness!Bye.
Very nicely reviewed, 👌
apparently they got rid of the apps on the mk6 so thats a no from me even though i would love having a touchscreen camera again
zebble ganubi Yeah it’s a pity because the intervalometer app was useful.
im still using my rx100mk2 in 2019.
And a new subscriber, i like your views and vedio!
Phuntsok Leksang Thank you!
Is MK5 good for concerts??
ZLATAN AGREES The video quality and low light capability with that F/1.8 lens works well for concerts but the microphones are not good. Music won’t sound very good when you play it back but it’ll capture the experience.
im also carrying it for video purpose.i dont think theres much difference betwen iv, v and vi
It´s the RX100 V or the RX100VA?
I would go with VA or a used V if you get a good deal.
all my video are made with rx100 m3...
I just gotta say that I'm mesmerized of how beautiful this review is. Seriously, I'm speechless. If you're interested, I would love to give you a logo redesign at no cost. It would be an honor for me :)
Your work is amazing
Srita. Garabatos Thank you so much for that kind comment. I would love to see what you have in mind for the logo.
Sure :) Where / How can I get in touch with you?
Amazing video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 feel so calm when watching your video of dogs running and beautiful scenery, did you make more videos by using rx100v? Can share with us? Thanks !
Yiing Jia Low Thank you. Yes, this one was done entirely on the RX100V: th-cam.com/video/Cxce19EUSgI/w-d-xo.html
