Growing up I lived in the middle of nowhere in north western New Hampshire. I'll never forget one day I really wanted to rent a vhs movie and I walked an 8 mile round trip to do it. When I got home later that afternoon I remember putting in Cujo and laying on my parents couch as a thunderstorm started raging outside. It was such a good day. I miss rental stores so much.
That was fucking beautiful. I wish I could've been there with you on that 8 mile walk and during that thunderstorm. The simpler times of the 90s. The heart of technology.
One of many so, so very, thankful of your curation of the Sleepcore series! Love the mish-mash vs the long form pulp films but.... keep doing what you're doing.
Ever notice how there is so little home made VHS there is on TH-cam from before 990 or 95 ? And aside from the poor resolution the content is almost universally abysmal. For all the hype and money and time spent on these devices practically nothing besides stuff recorded off air is worth saving. I stayed away from making videos until the 90s as the quality of affordable equipment was just so disappointing. I made some 8 and Hi8 tapes but it wasn't until DV tape came out that I felt ok with it.

Is it weird that I actually sat down to hear VHS ASMR without a real reason whatsoever?

My first VHS deck had a rotary tuner, and cost me a more than a paycheck.
