Family history of polyps and began colonoscopy age 55 (sigmoid age 50). First one they found 3 benign polys, went back 5 years later, found 1 benign one. Last one 3 years ago there were NONE. I’m now on the 5-year plan. Primarily vegan/plant based since 50. I am now 67; will have another one age 70.

    Dr Will
I'm a 60 yr old slim fit woman 5 years following Dr Esselstyns strict diet all that time. Back in 2011 they found a precancerous polyp through colonoscopy. I've been clear since. But about 4 yrs ago I went to see a surgeon about some faecal incontinence. She insisted on doing a colonoscopy although my gastroenterologist and my doctor weren't keen. I went ahead nc I wanted her help with the faecal incontinence problem but it turned out badly...she badly bruised my spleen (after thinking she had punctured it & keeping me in hospital a further 5 days). I asked about colonoscopies in the future, given my precancerous polyp back in 2011....she said to me my colon was incredibly squeaky clean and that anybody would be "mad" now to attempt a colonoscopy....she said if internal examination is ever warranted, to do a Sigmoidoscopy instead.....would you agree that this would be the best option for me going forward now, rather than colonoscopy? (I was pretty annoyed bc I had suggested this from the start but she ridiculed the idea). Thank you for any feedback you can offer...I'm in Australia

Hi, I was just listening The Food Revolution Summit. Dr. B was mentioning fermented foods; however; he was not able to suggest fermented veggies with no salt for those who mentioned HTN and inability to benefit from fermented foods due to high sodium content. He never mentioned salt free fermentation. I am SOS free long term vegan, over 17 years. I ferment multiple veggies and even fruit by adding apple and cranberries to sauerkraut with no added salt for the last several years. I just want people who do not consume salt to be aware it is possible using salt free fermentation. Thank you! Love you all!

Depends on where you think the lesion is
      Colonoscopy is the preferred one

The downside is you can only see things but you cannot remove things like polyps or do biopsy’s or any intervention like the conventional colonoscopy

They're just trying to rationalize why they feel better omitting fiber. 95% of Americans don't meet the minimum daily recommendation of fiber to begin with and it only takes a bad case of food poisoning or some strong antibiotics to finish what little microbiome they had.
So they get IBS and blame fiber for their digestion and energy problems. But the book "Fiber Fuelled" goes into detail on how to reverse this damage and eat healthy again. I fell down the keto rabbit hole and that book saved my life.

I had severe gerd too. Acid reflux disease, morbidly obese, and sleep apnea. I now weigh 180 pounds and used to be over 320 pounds. I got off nexium and many other reflux medications including tums through diet. Go completely plant based. No dairy, cheese, and other animal products. Cut out sugar, soda, fried foods, cookies, spicy foods, and any other highly processed foods. Cut out white carbs such as white potatoes, pasta, rice, potato chips, and other white carbs. Instead eat whole grains, sweet potatoes, wheat pasta, beans, lentils, brown rice, and almost any vegetables. Except maybe avocado. For the time being cut out nuts and seeds. Until the pain is completely gone. Then slowly add nuts and seeds in the diet. But eat very small portions. Eat small portions of food a day. And when you eat dinner wait 3 hours before you go to bed. Never eat heavy meals before you go to bed. Cut out tomatoes and onions for the time being. Cut out oranges, grapefruit, cranberries, mandarins, and any other acidic fruits. Instead eat bananas and melons. Cut out coffee, green tea, and hot chocolate milk. Cut out chocolate, peppermint, gum, and any type of mint. Cut out all sugary drinks including all juices. Instead make your own juices with a juicer. Cut watermelon and add a little water and mix it. If you crave something sweet. Put bananas in a mixer with almond milk or a bit of water. And you can drink a delicious banana shake. If beans bother your gerd cut that out too until the the gerd gets better. I am not a doctor or health professional. But because of the lifestyle change. I no longer have severe acid reflux. I felt terrible for about 17 or 18 years. And I was tired of taking ppi's and runs etc. I was tired of having sleep apnea and sleeping with a PAP machine. It may seem a bit difficult at first. But when the severe burning in the chest goes away you will see it's all worth it. I was literally coughing up blood sometimes. And I was addicted to food. If I had known about plant based diet many years ago I would have been vegan years ago. I am now almost 41 and have not had gerd symptoms for about 5 or 6 years. Hope this helps both of you. GOD bless you all.

@@richyakuoko2360 Oh, wow. I already am plant based but I do eat some of the plant based foods you suggest to eliminate. I switched to decaf coffee, but maybe that’s not enough. I usually only take the PPIs a couple of times a year for a few weeks at a time and then stop. But the GERD is getting worse. I don’t want to take the PPIs at all but sometimes the Gerd is so bad I can’t breathe. How long did it take you to heal? And could you ever eat some of those foods again, specifically coffee and citrus? I don’t eat any vegan junk food, but it looks like some of the healthy foods may be affecting me too. Thanks.

@@Sparkling-Cyanide That is great that you are already plant based. I think you should try to stop drinking coffee for a while and see how you feel. It probably took about a year for me to see a difference In my gerd. But that is because it took a while before I was 100% vegan. I do not drink coffee. But I never went back to citrus fruit drinks because I was scared that it would come back. But everyone is different. Although I suggest that you go on a strict bland diet like I suggested. Just too see if you feel better. I'm not trying to scare you but gerd in some cases can turn to esophageal cancer. That will NOT happen to you in Jesus name. Just try your best because this is your health and I'm sure to pain is too much. I was tired of the pain and the ppi's. In some people blueberries and bananas can trigger them as well. See how it works. And also don't eat canned vegetables. They can cause gerd too. Eat fresh or frozen. And don't eat pineapples for now. Also speak to your doctor. Colon hydrotherapy, I think, is an excellent way to clean all the meaty crap that might be stored in the colon. to make homemade sauerkraut it takes HUGE amounts of Salt, I eat that much in 3 months, it is HUGE, I eat alot better than the average American, I don't add salt to my foods, I do not eat a lot of processed foods. to compare your health conscience audience including my salt intake with a normal person is poorly inappropriate. If I eat 1/4 tablespoon of salt with my dinner's cabbage I would be in a lot of trouble, that's what is in a quarter of a mason jar of homemade kraut, to pretend we are worried about nothing and to belittle our concern when we are concerned with the Huge amount of salt that is in sauerkraut is ridiculous and disrespectful. We get you like it, but Maybe you are too young to understand what salt in large amounts as in sauerkraut can do and affect our health, your response is crap
