A few of those rides ended up at Dreamland in Margate after Battersea closed for good. The water chute, the Rotor and possibly the Cyclone. It’s a shame London doesn’t have its own amusement park anymore, but I guess times change.
harry gray's speedway and skid (skid sold to the kursaal) went to the kursaal Southend as did pat O'Neill's waltzer, galloper's and pat brought a jet of jets, the big wheel was sold to botton bro's great Yarmouth
I just don't see how Battersea Funfair could decline like that after the Big Dipper crash in 1972, after all, they replaced it with that Pinfari Roller Coaster called Cyclone....
A shame this fun fair doesn't exist anymore, despite the horrible accident. There's always a risk of accidents. Was it there 24/7 ? The only local fun fair where I live is Hull Fair for a week in October. This was the setting for the title sequence of Journey to the Unknown. It's theme tune was frightening. What is in its place on the site now?
Was a permanent funfair yes. And nothing really now. I believe the location runs along the edge of Battersea Park and the river. Its hard to find out the exact location. Battersea park is still a very nice and 'hidden gem' location. Just a shame the fun fair couldn't survive
Absolutely stunning colour.
1974 was the last year for the funfair, two years following the Big Dipper accident which killed five children.
Nice
I know I was taken there by my parents but sadly I dont remember much about it, apart from the Water Chute and the Tree Walk
Can’t believe I never knew why it was closed , the miracle now of the internet

The cyclone became the Jetstream at Ocean Beach Ryhl
Probably because of the deaths
After the fatal accident and the closure of the big dipper, the funfair lost a lot of custom and closed in the year this was filmed, 1974
Loved this funfair spent many happy times here while courting my ex husband
i do know the cyclone became Jet stream at Ocean Beach Rhyl
does anyone know what year this was filmed
+Tony Day - hi Tony, this was filmed in 1974 - I've added the year to the title field - Jenny @ Movietone
