I was born in Kaitaia, and would go to Whangarei to stay with grandparents on school holidays. Haven't seen the place for 35 years. Bought back some lovely memory's to see it again. Thanks so much Peter and Yen for the wonderful tour.

Whangarei’s a nice town! I used to live there for 2 years as a kid. Wow how awesome you got to see the kiwis and film it too!!! So nice of them! Yum! Good old ANZAC biscuits. Love a good clean Airbnb. Yeah not much of a walk to the falls but the walk down is nice and easy 😅. I used to live up Parahaki! Haha yeah that’s the best viewpoint of the town 😁

Great place Whangarei guys,lived there for 5 years,when we went up there in 2011 to do the broadband fibre,(the first city in NZ to get completed),and just loved the place. Had a house right in town,opposite the Hatea River,and just in time for the rugby world cup. It's a great little city,cool little marina and town basin that has markets (or used to),and the people are just awesome. As usual,you two find another great place to eat,I'm jealous again. It was cool to see you guys got up to Mt.Parihaka,the views of the city and surrounding areas are spectacular.
Rob you've been and lived everywhere hahaha. Whangare is a great city though. Can't believe we've overlooked it for so long there was also a restaurant called fat camel that yen n I went to in the evening. Man the food was bomb as. The lil lane that it was n also liked like it was out of an English movie cool vibe. Have you eaten there before?

It's incredibly rare to see tuatara especially in the wild since they're endemic to NZ and an endangered species, truly amazing creatures though!! Really feels like you're looking at a little dinosaur 😁

So much cool stuff!! I realised later that swimming horizontal isn't unusual 😆😆 but it's coz sea horse which are vertical creatures and move differently that made the horizontal ones unusual 😆👍
Some fabulous places and sights to see in and around Whangarei 👌. Have you tried Wildbase in Palmerston North? It's much warmer up north than here, with icy winds and lows barely in the positives right now... 🥶
Yen looked up wildbase while we were driving back from Wellington 😯 will have to go there when we go back down there hahahaha. Noooo winter is coming it was 5 degrees at its coldest during our travels these last few days. Negatives... 😅 stay warm out there mate

I used to come to NZ twice a year, once in summer and once in winter, to hike. But all was stopped since Feb 2020. It has been a long time, I hope I can resume my annual trips soon. Even though I was fined once for $400.00NZD for two oranges in my backpack at custom on one trip, but I still love NZ and its people, of couse, except those custom officers. They were mean!!! Just kidding, they fined me with a big smile on their face!!!. Actually, I shouldn't blame them since they were just carrying out their job. I was blaming the hotel staff who were so nice to me and packed that two oranges in my backpack and I forgot about it. LOL
😂 thanks for sharing the story about the customs fine. In our things to know about NZ video we put emphasis on that because NZ is super strict about fruits coming into the country. Hope you get to visit again soon 🤞

With Australia decided not open the border until middle of 2022, I am very pessimistic about when I can make it to NZ next time. So I will keep watching your vlog until I can come myself. LOL

That's true! Usually the chicken pho are shredded chicken which I like too but if lemon grass chicken is on the menu that's even better 😁✌️
I used to come to NZ twice a year, once in summer and once in winter, to hike. But all was stopped since Feb 2020. It has been a long time, I hope I can resume my annual trips soon. Even though I was fined once for $400.00NZD for two oranges in my backpack at custom on one trip, but I still love NZ and its people, of couse, except those custom officers. They were mean!!! Just kidding, they fined me with a big smile on their face!!!. Actually, I shouldn't blame them since they were just carrying out their job. I was blaming the hotel staff who were so nice to me and packed that two oranges in my backpack and I forgot about it. LOL
😂 thanks for sharing the story about the customs fine. In our things to know about NZ video we put emphasis on that because NZ is super strict about fruits coming into the country. Hope you get to visit again soon 🤞
@@PeterandYen I definitely understand NZ needs to protect its pristine environment. That is why i paid the fine quickly and with a laugh. LOL. With Australia decided not open the border until middle of 2022, I am very pessimistic about when I can make it to NZ next time. So I will keep watching your vlog until I can come myself. LOL

Awesome video guys! I recommend when you come back to Whangarei visit the subtropical query gardens they have waterfalls and different sculptures in the park. It's a common attraction to site see 😁
