You almost duplicated my hunts - same breed - same collars - same tattered Filson's - a double-gun, etc.! I couldn't help noticing that after the shot, your gun ejected the top barrel!?! You should ALWAYS fire your shot from the bottom barrel first as it gives minimal straight back recoil in the event you need to be ready for a follow-up (2nd) shot. Stunning video Sir!! LOVED it!
I have been hunting upland birds my whole life im 15 now but some day i will be just like my grandpa he literally hunts and fishes almost everyday. its funny though because he really only hunts now because of me he just loves to train his dog he is a 1 year old german shorthair and he already has won a lot of competitions. the dog is a 100% german shorthair pointer breed his parents were both from germany,
Beautiful video. Wish grouse were in huntable numbers here in New Jersey like they were thirty years ago. Our forests are too mature, and and overabundance of deer have consumed all the understory layer that provides cover for birds.
The setter has an electronic point beeper instead of a bell. Although many grouse hunters like traditional things, the beeper has major advantages over bells.
You guys should come tag along with me someday MTT dog pointed 2 birds yesterday however I was unable go get off a shot, grouse numbers have really improved in the part of WNC I live in
I enjoyed the video very much except for pushing the setter into the crate. Any dog should be trained to enter a crate by command and then rewarded for doing so.
Double barrel=fail, not to mention the setter is not shown retrieving the bird, because I bet it doesn't retrieve, like most setters. Plus its edited as the dog is not pointing in grouse cover, those shots where taken at some local game farm. Just look at the cover compared to where the grouse is shot. :(
Upland hunting is to hunting what fly fishing is to fishing. Simply beautiful.
Don't hunt any longer but enjoyed this post. Good camera work.Takes me back to my youth.
What a lovely video. Where I've hunted, a grouse that "red" would be highly unusual. Pretty. The music seemed just right, too.
Nature is cool and comfortable, greetings from Indonesia, my brother
Can't beat a good day of Grouse Hunting!

Ruffed grouse and an English Setter? Perfect.

Zack Johnson I have hunted with a friend in new York the last couple years, 4 grouse in an hour, 15 or so a day, not bad numbers
Nathaniel Gardener where in ny I'm in wny
what kind of dog is that in the video?
I hear ya Gary
I believe it's an English Setter.
it is indeed an English setter
The superb English Setter, aforementioned. That man has a dog, for sure.
I enjoyed the video very much except for pushing the setter into the crate. Any dog should be trained to enter a crate by command and then rewarded for doing so.
Stop with the music!
Why was he carrying an unloaded gun????? Grouse hunted many years but never with an unloaded gun!!!

Excellent video, but one of the nice qualities of a double gun is being able to catch your hull when you open the gun unlike this hunter.
