That roof is certainly festive and lively. Wonderful job. Save the old roof so that when you need a new one they can reinstall the rear glass with the stickers on it. Just a thought. Have a nice day riding around in your wonderful Ellie.
Well done, Ian. That looks terrific. For those screws, it looks like the screws themselves are stainless and in great shape. If it is just the washers gone bad, appropriate O rings or washers should seal quite well.
Great intro. Most of us are just as lazy, if not quite so honest with ourselves. It's a testament to the quality that it has lasted as long as it has. With some patience, IPA and a fresh scraper blade, you could probably save that period sticker and refit it with some clear double sided tape. Save the green canvas and make a pair of Elf ears for the mirrors.
Brilliant. My mother had a green 2CV as her first car in the 1970s. Pity the floorpan rusted out and it was swapped for something more conventional.... She still misses it even today!
@@HubNut I would be honoured sir lol! Might be a few things you would like. I love a small quirky motor. Shame I've moved on my 106 Rallye and Cappunicino recently
I think the new roof looks positively jaunty! 2CVs always seem to have that carefree seaside feel to them, and I think it suits her. How can anyone not feel a bit happier after seeing the little car? I was a little concerned at seeing a partially naked lady's muff, but hey ho. I always did like a French girl that was a little bit dirty. Enough double entendres, that seems a very reasonable price for the difference it makes. I wasn't expecting it to have a new glass window too. Good start to the week.
Working next to the river teifi in cardigan, pretty chilly 🥶 day Ellie’s changed my view on 2cv’s!!! tbh never really understood the citroen thing till finding hub nut so thanks for educating me
New roof looks much better 😎 you could remove the glass from old roof and swap it over on to new roof it's not a hard job and you get to keep your stickers . Plus you could continue the white stripes down the boot lid would finish it of nicely .
spray with the stuff you spray on canvas walking boots - should work a treat. Tap washers would work under those fixing screws. And by the way, I knew Wendy quite well. Great lady for 2cv bits
Love the new roof Ian. Elly’s looking much improved. Stripes are the future 😁 Looking forward to seeing the other cosmetic improvements coming her way. I’ve been wearing my Hub Nut beanie in this recent chilly weather too 🥶 Re the disclosure at the end, the price seems entirely reasonable considering it includes the glass rear window. Looks a quality job too.
Alternative to the hammock style parcel shelf make something from steel, which you can mount speakers on. Rests on a 'tang' welded to the back of the rear seat.
That looks so well. Also it was a great tutorial, don't put yourself down! Think the wings all red would make her look perfect and it was great Elly rewarded you by starting.
Nice roof, such a simple, clever bit of design by the French. I used to stick a piece of cardboard in front of my radiator of my mk.5 cortina in winter....even after I had the thermostat replaced.
Used to have to muff the radiator on my '37 Riley despite the fan and fan belt having been permanently removed all year round, dynamo was driven by exhaust camshaft water pump by inlet. It was a non pressurised system and never boiled even in summer, just had a massive honeycomb radiator (4.5 gallon system).
Any fuel kno that Redroof is in Cornwall...not Waeils.......Nice roof ! My Dyane one was quite plasticky and maroon in colour. I used it in the first position regularly, but rolled right back was for very hot days only. I never had a grille muff on mine...maybe the heater might have worked a bit better. I didn't even know there was one in 1977😂
New roof looks great. Just need some red stripes on the bonnet and red mudflaps now! Got my calendar and white mug. Both are brill. Mug even survived being thrown over the gate by the postman when I wasn’t in.👍
As you moved round and revealed the new roof from the front, the accordionist in my mind started to play (with, of course, a Gitanes hanging off his lip). Stereotype, much? Lovely to see a tinkering video again.
If you missed the bit at the end that mentions Elly's Croatian Adventure, I can recommend you watch the series (I just finished yesterday). After an inauspicious start, this "little car" really comes through for Ian, to the tune of a 3,400 miles road-trip!
I’ve watched Ian’s Croatian adventures with Elly numerous times now. My Mrs and me loved them , and what shines through in them is just what a great down to earth bloke Ian is . We’ve met him twice now at Hubnut socials - he’s one of the nicest and most decent welcoming fellas you could ever hope to meet. His partner Carly (check out Miss Hubnut’s channel too) is just the same . Just lovely people working hard running a great channel which is going from strength to strength …
I just love the way 2CVs come to pieces. I can still remember sleeping in the back as I'd taken the sheets out when I was escaping from war torn Yugoslavia on the scenic route back from Greece. These cars are impossible not to love.
Definitely interesting and pleasant to watch! Cute Elly! She looks terrific! I like your videos about you trying to find your way! Congrats Ian, you've got yourself a great looking 2cv! She always has but even more so now
what a wonderful final insight: If Elly doesn´t start, just change her roof ;-) brilliant! BTW, I like the new roof, it makes Elly look like one of those fancy northern German Beach Chairs you find everywhere on the North Sea and Baltic Sea coast in summer...
Ellie's new roof really does look the part. Well done Ian!
Totally agree, awesome pattern choice!
The more i watch your videos the more i like your channel.
Watching this and other videos of Elly, shows how amazingly simple a 2CV is to work on. Definitely want one 👍😎
A definite first for me .. .. 'change the roof and will definitely start' !! Looking ever so smart.
That roof is certainly festive and lively. Wonderful job. Save the old roof so that when you need a new one they can reinstall the rear glass with the stickers on it. Just a thought. Have a nice day riding around in your wonderful Ellie.
Ellie, The 2Cv,,,, the one true constant in your life Ian, and rightfully so. Lovely video, thank you.
As a new 2CV owner I am loving these. Got the Teeshirt as well today so thanks.
I love these kind of tinkering vids. They accurately show how every job I ever do on my cars ends up
Well done Ian, another little job sorted, i would wait for spring to get paint sorted!
Ellie looking so good. Great video, thanks again.
Ah, a return to the hubnut we know and love.
Looking quite superb.
I love your repair videos. Your sense of humor is infectious. Great stuff!
A very smart looking Elly, the new roof makes her look young again! Nice Job Ian.
The red and white stripes work really well. Elly looks great.
Looking good.
I enjoy your ongoing relationship with Ellie. I never knew about 2cvs until your channel bit I have put driving one on my bucket list.
Well done, Ian. That looks terrific. For those screws, it looks like the screws themselves are stainless and in great shape. If it is just the washers gone bad, appropriate O rings or washers should seal quite well.
I wasn't completely convinced when I first saw that new hood but no, it looks awesome!

The Waterboys 1990.
A Man is in Love.
Very appropriate for this video.
Gorgeous roof and grille muff.
You can see why many fall in love with the 2CV. Interesting and enjoyable as usual.
Brilliant. My mother had a green 2CV as her first car in the 1970s. Pity the floorpan rusted out and it was swapped for something more conventional.... She still misses it even today!
A very interesting video. I am going to fit new roof to my Charleston. Thank You again from Norway.
Nice addition Ian 👌 you got there in the end 👍
Isn't she Elegant in her new glad rags! Wow, so cute.
Definitely agree with a colour-rematch on the arches etc...
Well, now Elly is looking much more cheerful! Nice!
Did a 2CV vid on my channel this weekend , very tempted to keep my project rather than sell on now.
Ah yes. A few people have suggested I need to head over to your channel. I shall do so!
@@HubNut I would be honoured sir lol! Might be a few things you would like. I love a small quirky motor. Shame I've moved on my 106 Rallye and Cappunicino recently
Looks excellent, but it does make you realise how much the paint has faded. Although, not anything like as much as the old roof!
She looks lovely with the new roof.
Hubnut tinkering with a 2cv! All is right with the world! I always enjoy your tinkering videos.
Good Job, Ian! This parasol-style roof fits very nice to the Dolly-version! Pretty thing!
Thank you for doing everything wrong at first. Now I am confident that I will be able to figure out how to attach a long roof to an early 2CV.
She is happy now, you got her a new hat.I will start and show of my new look.
Nice one Ian she looked great mate good choice of colours for her.
Excellent little tinkering video, roof looks great on Elly. And the Grille Muff adds a little bit of a face to Elly as well.

Transformation, just like that. Nice one.
Elly is all spruced up and properly attired for a trip to Portmeirion ;-)
New roof looks much better 😎 you could remove the glass from old roof and swap it over on to new roof it's not a hard job and you get to keep your stickers . Plus you could continue the white stripes down the boot lid would finish it of nicely .
Let's not distract him any further from the path of righteousness eh old chap? ;-)
I'd take it home and hang it on the wall 😀
It is easier to peel the stickers off with the aid of warm air (hairdryer) and reattach to new window.
Looking good, the stripes really work well

Awesome v log really loving ellys new roof
Magnifique!
Now I will have to get one for Blossom our plums and custard
I love the new canvas top!
Now you have to get protection for the canvas. I think we will have to send you yearly reminders!
Brilliant Sir HubNut!
Roof looking good, lets hope the colours dont run.
Just need a couple of matching folding chairs to complete the set.

Elly looks gorgeous now with its new roof.
Such a lovely little car 🚗
Very nice, very nostalgic for this former owner. Im surprised you didn’t just swop the glass.
Elly looking prettier than ever!
Also, love some traditional tinkering
Looks great. You do nice work 👍.
Nice choice of colour. Just need, what we call in Aust.. matching "Go Faster" stripes on the bonnet!
she does look posh now! them wings would look good sprayed the same red as the roof now. job well done.
Don't think you said "Not my Landrover"
Nice finish to Elly with the roof, looks like a classic deckchair design ;)
I’m still waiting for a “Not my washing machines”!
@@emmajnation-emma it seems to be tradition in parts of Wales to have a partially dismantled washing machine in your front garden!!!
Elly looks stupendous with her new roof! Very fetching!
Alternative to the hammock style parcel shelf make something from steel, which you can mount speakers on. Rests on a 'tang' welded to the back of the rear seat.
The Peter Crouch theme continues (from his Stoke City days).
That looks so well. Also it was a great tutorial, don't put yourself down! Think the wings all red would make her look perfect and it was great Elly rewarded you by starting.

Elly looking good Ian. Nice job.
Exeter City FC colours!! Love the stripes!!!
Elly looks splendid
Elly's looking lovely with her new roof. Well done, Sir!👍
Ellie looking smart with her new roof and muff.

Excellent. Ellie's high maintenance, new clothes and she becomes reliable but only for now 🤣. She looks brilliant
Love the look of the the wider stripes nice Christmas present for Ellie
New roof looks ver distinctive! I’m sure the red will subdue and the white slightly darken to match elly’s colours even better in time!
Proper transformation! love the simplicity of the 2cv 👍👍👍
Brilliant as always, love your 2cv videos
As you moved round and revealed the new roof from the front, the accordionist in my mind started to play (with, of course, a Gitanes hanging off his lip). Stereotype, much? Lovely to see a tinkering video again.
Great one Ian . Elly looks even more gorgeous already ….
Love the new roof it looks apart good choice of colours!!!
You need a starsky and hutch stripe down the side now🤓👍 nice in the cold tinkering time 🤓👍
The radiator cover makes it look like Elly has grown a moustache 😁
Elly looking good with the new roof, always amazed how easy she comes apart
Randomly came across a classic car auction yesterday at Manchester airport, thought for a second I had landed in one of your videos! 😀
I don't think it's possible to make a 2CV look good but you just have to love them.
Fantastic Ian, Ellie looks lovely now 😊
Nice. Looks really lovely.
New roof fixed the starting - Elly is happy 😊
Just discovered your channel......love it.....always wanted a 2CV.....and yours is wonderful.....cheers !
Thanks enjoyed watching your successful mission whilst I ate my lunch👍

Sublime replacement roof demo 👌

Evidently the equivalent of buying her a new hat. Am I showing my age?
Looks stunning! And now even Elly is wearing a COVID mask over her grille. ;-)
Ian if you get a hair dryer and a wallpaper scraper / sharp blade you may be able to remove and reuse the stickers of the old window
Love the new roof! Only issue is its highlighted a few shades of red!
That looks excellent!
Sporty Elly she looks so proud of new livery she starts no probs !! 😃😃
As you're in Wales it will be a moss green and red striped roof by the end of winter.
Looks marvelous!!
Love the new look 👍👍👍
Nice looking roof. Ellie deserves it..
great job on elly
