this mission was a nightmare for me. i did complete it on hard, but it was basically tower defense. i didn't even consider moving out aggressively. gave up on optional quest. playing war3 after years again now. having watched streamers and learned a bit about proper playing style. but this mission was still difficult. this way of beating the mission is simply amazing. requires real skill. i want to try it too but will probably end up getting my units killed.
Optional quest is easy though. I just completed it with Arthas having Divine Shield level 1, go in and kill the grain transports and go out before shield pops off rinse and repeat.
I do tower defense also and have peasants walk to repair, then i have 2-5 priests and some footmen and more archers. I dont know how the hell to go attack, when i do i get ruined
This is kinda old, but it's actually possible to save some if not all of the 5 units (4 footmen, 1 rifleman) that die to the zombies at the start. The mission starts them at barely any hp to ensure that the zombies kill some units in the opening, but if you let the cut-scene play out, it allows for hp regeneration to kick in throughout the scene to raise their health a bit. Once you end the cutscene right as the zombies are changing, you now have more time to save some of the units that the zombies are supposed to have killed.
Expo aggros the purple base and you'll have to either build towers or move some of your troops there. One base is generally enough, but selling items like OP did is a good boost to eco.
RoC only or with TfT ? I don't found this mission to be si hard. Wall of tower in the base in order to counter the two waves, riflemans and priest for range & dispell, and use Arthas and some footmens to destroy the orange. With divine shield Arthas can even do this alone.
Aesis was so balls out this run he didn't even load up on healing scrolls (higher sell value) and get Arthas to level 5 in the previous mission. Didn't need to.
It's hard because as soon as they run out of resources they get free gold and lumber. I tried to kill all the acolytes first so they couldn't rebuild anything.

I consider myself somewhat good at microing and I can successfully defend from even the last attack without losing more than a couple towers but destroying purple is out of the question, I even tried to expand aggressively so I could match their unit production but they always attack when I'm building so it's not worth it having to go back and forth to defend. Guess I'll just have to settle with winning the last Undead mission!
It is hard coded that way in this level. Try it yourself, if you are below level 5 and gain a level you will automatically get to level 6. This was done so you didn't fall behind on experience.

My method was gonna use cannon towers and going for fast expand right away because I think it makes more sense from theorycraft standpoint but I can't argue with success.
While i was playing this part of the campaign, i was ignoring that optional quest. But when i realized that they build a base, i got really trouble because theres now 3 bases to kill me so this made very trouble
Why did you destroy the trees? For fun? Also, could you destroy the unreachable 3 bases(Human, Orc and Undead) in Night Elf Campaign "The Druids Arise" level?
I did that. All three bases are a little buggy when it comes to defending themselves - because the developer team obviously didn't think that some stubborn guy like me would try attacking them using Tyrande's owl and Furion's treants. Orcs and humans almost don't retaliate when you attack them with treants, unlike the Undead. But it's a little tricky and requires skill - and by that I mean you have to micro-manage the treants so they destroy all buildings and workers or you could run out of all trees in close proximity from Furion. But some flying units will always stay on the bases even if you destroy everything else.
If you're talking about the ones near the mid-lane towers, my best guess is that it alters the attack path of green so that they don't aggro onto the mortar teams attacking purple.
if you destory orc and human base first, then all their flying units die (kamikadze assault on undead base). Then you can simply destroy undead base with flying units :)

Technically you saved at least one building somewhere on the map, as you would enter a failstate if you have no buildings left. Could even just be the foundation and not a completed building.
That's still easy. Try destroying all Murloc bases in the custom campaign "Countdown to Extinction," where you have Thrall's army survive for 20 minutes from the Murloc onslaught.
Did the recent blizzard patches make this stage harder/different? I notice that the starting items available are different and they aren't as good (no wand of negation). Also, it seems that you don't get as much money for selling your items (I could be wrong). And when you attack the undead now, they seem to spawn abominations faster.
Depends on what Patch you are on. Think most of the changes come if you have Frozen Throne also installed if I'm not mistaken. If you purely install Reign of Chaos from hardcopy without patching etc. then there would be differences, like the Mortar Teams having only one flair.
How will they remaster this map I wonder? World of Warcraft's Hearthglen is a fortified town on top of a hill with only one road leading there from the south...

how come around 7:40 your hero skipped from from level 4 to level 6 without being on level 5?
He gained enough EXP to jump to lvl 6.

I looked into it and it seems they didn't make changes. The items depend on what items you come into the level with.
Those are just Jaina's items. This is pretty standard in the campaign whenever a character leaves the story.

I think that orb of fire is given via completing a black dragon hunt quest in the previous mission
That is correct. You get the orb of fire as a reward for killing a dragon in the first human mission.
