I discovered Frixion pens about a month ago and I am hooked! I have quite the collection now because I love all of the formats. They are SO much better than the original erasable pens - different formulation/concept altogether I think. I wonder whether the boy who was playing up is actually going to miss you and just didn't know how to express himself. My difficult boy tends to do that. He loves myself and his teacher assistant, but gets angry and upset if we are away, so we suffer beforehand if he knows we are not going to be at school. I am really looking forward to your cruise vlog.

How does it work taking time off during term time in the US? In the UK you are permitted a day off for getting married or moving house, but never for vacations! That would be disciplinary over here - just curious how it works over the pond? x
I had saved up 5 personal days to use and then I am taking 2 unpaid days! I just had to get the absence approved by my admin but last near I had near perfect attendance so it wasn't a problem!

I am an inner city middle school teacher, who teaches 4 different grades in ESL. I teach 6, 7 and 8 language arts and a mixed group of 7&8 Social Studies. Additionally, I travel so that means I don't have my own classroom. Oh boy, am I ever stressed!!! Like you, I am a highly energetic, can - do person. You are adorable and very animated, BUT, I find it peculiar that you can do all you do: Teach 24 second graders, with all the prepping and correcting, VLOG so wonderfully with all the sound effects and fast forward motions, go to the gym, go on vacation, and find time to do the basic necessities of life. Am I missing something? Is this all you, or is someone...some very creative professional non teacher vlogger helping you behind the scenes?
You should really look into daily meditation, I think it would benefit you a ton and you'll see after some practice, that's there's nothing to stress about.
That's a great question! Typically it's the same sub for all of the days because they want consistency. However, I originally only took off Monday-Friday but then the dates of the cruise changed slightly so I had to put in for the following Monday and Tuesday as unpaid days. So I have one sub for the first 5 days and then a different sub the last 2 days but as I was leaving my principal said she was going to try to keep the sub for the first 5 days for the entire time if she could!

I typically do Ketchup and Pickles every Friday (or the last day of the week) to give my students an opportunity to catch up on work they didn't finish or missed while absent. "Ketchup" students are those who have work to "catch up" on and "pickle" students are those who are completely up to date on work and get to "pick" a more fun activity such as reading on the iPads, playing Prodigy on the laptops, math puzzles, silent reading, etc. Hopefully that makes sense! Any tips regarding young teachers working with middle aged/about to retire teachers? It is hard to work with teachers knowing that they are judging based on my age. The following year, I will be a full time resource teacher, collaboration is key, and I am worried that it will be difficult because who would want to be open to ideas/strategies from a 26 year old! Never imagined I would ever feel like I wanted to look older.
You just have to be confident in your abilities and know that you have something to offer them! I was very intimidated to offer any of my ideas to my team teachers my first year and even most of my second because I felt inadequate in comparison since they have so much more experience. But once I started giving them my ideas, I found that they responded really well to them! Just give it a shot because you never know! Every teacher has strengths and weaknesses so if one of your strengths is one of their weaknesses I promise you will be able to help them!

I'm sure some do but I'm sure a lot of them who have been teaching much longer have so many more resources to pull from that it doesn't take them quite as long, if that makes sense. It's also hard to tell because some teachers work at school and some take work home! I have completed the screening interview with the new district but they don't start interviews at specific schools until May 8th! So for now I am just waiting! We do plan together during our weekly PLC meetings on Wednesday mornings! However, planning with my team is completely different than writing sub plans. When I plan for myself, it doesn't take nearly as long because I don't have to be as detailed. Unfortunately, we have to make all of our own copies!
Pocketful of Primary Oh ok! 👌🏻 In our school we expect subs to follow the regular lesson plans so we don't write specific plans for them. We do have to have sub binders that explains in great detail our schedule, procedures, and expectations.

Long term sub plans are the worst. I had 3 1/2 weeks of medical leave earlier this year to plan for. Intense.

Yes! We each have an issued school laptop and can take it home if we wish. However, I don't ever take mine home because I use my personal laptop!

I'm sure some do but I'm sure a lot of them who have been teaching much longer have so many more resources to pull from that it doesn't take them quite as long, if that makes sense. It's also hard to tell because some teachers work at school and some take work home! I have completed the screening interview with the new district but they don't start interviews at specific schools until May 8th! So for now I am just waiting! Why don't you plan ahead with your team? We are required to have plans done two weeks ahead and copies are made for the team by assistants---I know we are very lucky to have that help. Enjoy your cruise!!! 🚢 ☀️ 💦
We do plan together during our weekly PLC meetings on Wednesday mornings! However, planning with my team is completely different than writing sub plans. When I plan for myself, it doesn't take nearly as long because I don't have to be as detailed. Unfortunately, we have to make all of our own copies!
Pocketful of Primary Oh ok! 👌🏻 In our school we expect subs to follow the regular lesson plans so we don't write specific plans for them. We do have to have sub binders that explains in great detail our schedule, procedures, and expectations.
