It would be interesting to know who were these corrupt geologists & politicians who gave building permits, knowing that there was a 'crack in the mountain'. To think that within 52+ yrs after granting building permits, a whole town would begin sinking is hard to grasp.
well they knew that water had to be pumped off the flat area of the mountain where they had developed it for building or the weight of the water-soaked soil would slide downhill, when the pump money ran out landslides and nature took its course
Landowners should plant trees with extensive roots. It will have at least two positive effects, stabilize and strengthen the soil and also take care of surplus water. Knowledge of best tree plants to use must be available localy.
Any village where you have to "push rainwater away" every season is someplace that shouldn't have a village in the first place. Hate to say it, but this was a bad place to build.
United states..California..Palos Verdes is suffering the same fate...but they do not listen..they built there even when they know the mountain is moving since 50's...
sad. but the villagers should have reacted when the gov decided not to help. They should have paid a private engineer to solve the problem, if they couldn't afford, just pay him to draw a plan of action and try do it themselves. If they could afford the school and hotel, they should have some resource to try to tackle the problem.

And once again the Greek State, the Regional and Municipal Governments fail to act, or even care, for a major disaster that struck our fellow citizens. Goes to show how the current Greek crisis is not a financial one. It's a crisis of ideals, values and morals. From the indifference of the state, to those detestable people who gave the village people licenses and ,to some lesser degree, to the residents themselves who failed to react energetically enough. I don't mean to blame the residents, of course, but I do believe that there were ways to respond to such a disaster. I never heard of them appealing to charity, taking matters to the court or even strongly vocalizing the problem before it was too late. It has been four years since this disaster, and this is perhaps the second time I've ever heard of it. I had totally forgotten about it. Sure the state is full of hypocrites and lowlifes BUT that situation will never change unless we speak up!! It really is a pity that such a beautiful little town ended up like that, but in the end it stands a testament to modern Greek ineptitude. I apologize, fellow Greeks, in case you find my words too harsh; the reality however is much harsher. Peace, out!!
That's why you dont have government. It reinforces its powers over the people when supposed to reinforce protect individuals. Supposed to help people tune they business and court. Fire drill. Self responsibility. Look out for own future . Be in group that chips in , on need and medical. Build es hvitgers houses and such ... life.

Δαγών Cult Συμφωνώ απόλυτα ειδικά άμα είναι βροχερή μέρα το σούρουπο με ομίχλη γίνεται άνετα ταινιούλα θρίλερ
Awesome spot for trail riding.
Wonderful Greece .. so hurt by governments and their greed ...
Greeks choose them!!!!

sad story,,
And now, that nice bridge they drove across is washed away as well. I saw in a later video where folks were going inside the slanted cathedral.
Τhe music is over the top. There was no narration.. Meh.. The story is worth the time though..

Ok someone dislike all of my vids for that comment. Αποδειξη για το ποσο πειραγμενοι ειμαστε σα λαος
Сочувствую братьям-грекам.
Вот до чего порой доводит даже маленькая халатность.
That's tragic...a greek tragic!
Υπομονή και σε λίγο θα γίνει παραθαλάσσιο
Watching this video in 2023 the village is totally abandoned now 💔
It’s not a bad looking site, but why the damn music?

I hope you are not living in a Balcanic Country.
Here, in the Balcans, the governement is always guilty for the actions of population.

Dude, no one can stop a mountain from sliding. Quit looking for handouts
the goverment will help the people - all you need to do is write a letter to your local member of parliament
