- LEEDS CITY STATION in FEBRUARY 1987
Catching a Trans Pennine service from York took me to my next photographic location at Leeds City Station. The weather was turning a little drab but the variety of traffic calling and passing through was enough to take one's mind off the damp and cold. The photogenic DMU class 144 serving local areas were abundant and again "Peaks" still hauling the majority of the Trans Pennine long hauls. A class 31 slowly and cautiously powers away from the station so as not to slip, with a very heavy train of silo wagons. Also a favourite working from Carlisle over the S & C usually at that short period was a booked class 40 turn, but today it was a class 47...can't win them all eh...Finally the London trains were HST's. Sit back and keep warm and most of all enjoy this brief time capsule from 1987.
Brilliant vid of the old days that we all miss
I agree....Best wishes...Mark
In 1987 I had absolutely no intention to travel to Leeds. After watching this excellent footage, I wish I had. Great stuff, thank you!
I did not have the location as a priority, but it was a great place......Mark
Great footage, really enjoyed watching as it brought back many great memories. Where on earth has all that time gone! 😊
You're most welcome and many thanks....Time has flown by I agree.....best wishes....Mark
You got a beautiful shot there at 5:15 as the driver got out and took the time to reminisce on the nameplate with his hand as he walked past.
It does seem rather poignant especially from an older chap...may have had an experience on it at some time....many thanks for commenting....Mark
I guess work on wiring up Leeds would have been just months away at this time so this is a really good historical reference for traction in Leeds immediately pre-electrification. I remeber that 1960s train shed well - dark and dingey and always smelling of diesel fumes. Glad they rebuilt it, the current station though not perfect, is a much nicer place to be. I do miss seeing the HSTs though.
Many thanks for the comment and for watching also my very best wishes....Mark
Another excellent film of bygone days, many thanks.
Again you are most welcome....Mark
My local station and just how I remember it,spent many hours on the station with my dad, glad you filmed the Tilcons but they can’t have been many BR blue snowplough fitted 31s about at that time.
Glad to have brought back good memories for you Rob....more to follow I hope.....many thanks.....Mark
@@spompeyit did just wish I was a bit old and digital cameras were round now for recording stuff, hopefully you have done more Leeds videos?
@@robc9845 I know just how you feel....I did visit Leeds again sometime, but until I stumble across whereabouts it is in my collection I will post it, I often wish that I could have spent more time at these locations then but without hindsight you just don't realise at the time...and I wholeheartedly agree about having digital cameras back in the old BR days. What a fantastic collection that would make, However the nearest thing we can see are the brilliant films made by BFI and such like collections....best regards....Mark
There's some serious weight in that train. I imagine that it would have come from Skipton off the Grassington line from the quarry.
Great to see my home station how it used to be, far better than the new station, and all the trains that currently serve it.
Just about everywhere has changed so much....Many thanks for watching....Mark
Good to see it how it was... shot on a vhs camcorder the size of a small suitcase no doubt!
Yes it was indeed.....The compact was around a couple of years away.....How EVERYthing has changed. Many thanks and best wishes....Mark
Great days 👍
You're welcome....Mark
I like the parcels left out in the rain there13:40
They do look rather sorry....must be mine......best regards...Mark
That's some amazing layout you have there. Well done!
Does not fit in the loft....Mark
Superb mate ! You have a record of the Trans-Pennine train formations as I remember them from 10 years earlier. The Inter-City formations with the Mk1 and Mk2 stock plus the Mk1 full parcels BG. I feel sorry for the passengers on those long distance DMU's in the 80's. In 1978 you could hop on an HST from Bradford Interchange to Doncaster for a day's spotting - rather than rattling along in a Met-Cam....
Many thanks...and best wishes.....Mark
Access to the mail platforms was never allowed back in the day. We tried in 1991.
Many thanks for the comment Duncan and best wishes to you....Mark
So many memories
Many thanks...best regards to you....Mark
