SmashuGamer Girl Harley Quinn did not originate from the comics. She originated from The Batman Animated Series. Every comic incarnation is based off of that. Harley created herself. She fell in love with the Joker and decided to be his follower in hopes of winning his heart over. Everything she does as a villain is for the Joker. She has no villainess desires of her own.
Margot Robbie nailed the role.. hope she gets an Oscar soon.. excellent talent with stunning beauty

I think that it would be cool to focus more on Harley and the Joker because they were obviously the best characters in the Suicide Squad movie. I'd like to know more about this particular portrayal of the characters, never mind if it matches up with different portrayals of the two.

Its so interesting watching Margot talk about her role you can see it in her eyes that she loves everything about it.
I love when she says "Harley is a born sidekick, bad ass and mischievous, but she WANTS TO BE A SIDEKICK." and it is so true. She was Jokers, now she is figuring out whose sidekick she wants to be paired with. Fascinating.

She nailed that part about codependency. One of the main reasons I hated the SQ movie (apart from its basically nonexistent plot) was due to the fact that the creators painted that "mad love" relationshit between J and Harley in an overly romanticized way. I grew up as a codependent due to my narcissistic father and just went through a really rough breakup with my BPD ex - I can tell you: There's NOTHING romantic about letting your own life fall apart for another person. I literally became a hollow shell filled up with the self hatred my ex reverberated on me and I'll need therapeutical support to find out what is left of my own personality.
Anyway - Margot Robbie is the best Harley Quinn ever!
I'm glad you got help! Tbh I liked the way they portrayed their relationship, because the more canon way would be kinda heavy for the cinema and it makes me feel really sad for Harley. However, the film version is like "2 psychos in love, one fell harder and the other struggles with his feelings, but they're a power couple that would always protect and chase one another"

The problem is that the film director romanticized a abusive relationship. I love how Margot was trying to show the relationship as abusive but the Joker has never loved harley. Even in sucide sqaud he electrocuted her brain and left her in a sinking car.
Karen he didn’t WB didn’t want an abusive relationship. If you look for some behind the scenes you can see details. Just look at the first trailer. Joker got Harley back on the helicopter and push her. There also the car chasing scene on a motor cycle where Jared slap Margot.

The way they treated each other was not comic accurate at all. He... like really loved her in this movie which was fucking weird. Every time Joker showed any fraction of love for Quinn, it felt like Leto was breaking character or something.

In fact, in the director's version of it he tried to kill her with pushing her out of a plane, but the studio decided to change it as if J was saving her. Maybe he became jealous of Deadshot or something. Harley by the way was a victim of an abuse yet a sweet girl who had darkness in her from the start. I mean, she became a bit nicer after Joker's death, that says a lot. So my point is, it could be much better if we saw the director's cut, but it's already not completely bad

I'm fully convinced that most people hating on Robbie's Harley is just doing it to be a hipster. That or they're just cringy fake fans who don't REALLY like Harley Quinn, but just the cringy edgelord personality they've falsely prescribed on to her; that she's some mass murdering torture lover with no regard for human life that wants to kill everything in sight (I call this fan-made bastardization "Edgy Quinn")
As someone who considers Harley their 3rd fave DC Comics character behind Poison Ivy and Red Hood, this is the best comic-to-film adaptation of a character since J.K Simmons as J.J Jameson in the Raimi Spider-Man movies.

Robbie carried Harley's character well. I'm personally not a fan of the outfit (they called it a biker look- it feels more like cheerleader gone bad, but that's me) but it was definitely something to overlook. I'm hoping for something more exciting in the upcoming films.

Harley's a very unique type of character in comics. Her flaws really do make her the amazing character she is. I got nervous when they started to make here lose her dependence on the Joker in the comics. I thought it would make her too stable and less interesting, but I think DC found a descent balance. I still prefer the older version, but I like the newer one too.
