    You have inspired me to start creating colorful art with dyeing. I am a breast cancer survivor and you taught me so, so much during that grueling process. I am so grateful that you share your gift. Your creations are exquisitely and masterfully done. Thank you!!

      That is wonderful to hear.... I love to help and to Inspire people to create and to have success with this art that I love so much.... I spent 16 years doing school events and home tie-dye parties and I do believe that is what trained me up to create these videos to share with everyone. And yes creativity is a wonderful way to take your mind off other things and it opens the Right Brain and Heart .... You are welcome!! 🙏 🤗

    I just started viewing tie dye videos because I am going to make some. Out of all of the ones I've viewed you are by far the best. I love that you are articulate and have lots of patience. If I had to guess I would think you are a teacher by trade. Thank you so much.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for your kind words and you are welcome for the teaching .... and no I am not a teacher by trade, I have done a lot of teaching of tie-dye over the years... I have been doing tie-dye since 2000 .... and I spent 16 years doing school tie-dye events and home tie-dye parties .... so I have worked with many classrooms of children over the years and I think that is where I was 'trained' to create these videos as well as the patience ... everyone starts someplace and deserve to be treated with respect

    I am planning on having a tie dye party in the next few weeks, and I will probably make a few in this design. The rest will have to settle for single heart tie dye. Thank you for laying it out , and making this so easy for me to follow! Our shirts will be our "team" uniform for the Jacksonville FL Walk For Wishes July 18th! My 3 year old son survived his 7th open heart surgery in March, and we decided since Make A Wish will be granting his wish, we should walk! I would love to keep you posted on our progress with our tie dying party, so far we have 30+ walkers- thats a lot of shirts! Thanks again, Kristen.

I will be checking out more of your videos, but this was something that I wanted to be able to offer with my customized shirts. Thanks so much for clearly showing how to do this, but also for your experience bits that you added as part of the video - everything that you hinted it will definitely help with making these heart designs look good. Thank you for sharing!

    • @grunthippie4872
      @grunthippie4872 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My apology for my amateurs knowledge. I underestimated the squeeze bottles. I thought needles came smaller than squeeze bottles tops. But it just like graffiti bottles. I was going with something similar to sharpie tie dye.
      Can I ask for an other request Mr dye?.
      🔥👏 Can you try sketch and dye a Pikachu or a Kirby?. It's simple. Yes. But that is why. It would look fantastic with a light pink and some red wine with the kirby around the chest.
      Same with the pikachu.
      It would look sexy and nice on a shoulderless belly top.
      Sketch and dye is sketching with a pencil or a fabric pen whatever comfortable. Draw a character or something like a fire 8 ball.
      Personally I believe simple has better result.
      Then with the thicker black trace the lines. Let it dry enough to work with it and wrap it in a way you can dye the character but tie a good design for background. You can try to liquid dye the character and ice dye the background or the other way around. whatever motivates you. I have been working less with tapestry design. On the moment i been focusing my attention with dye chemistry and finding economical result. So I been working with the ink like distilled extraction with sharpie. I been drying flower peddles, vegetable and fruits. Testing around for tie dye.
      I live in the island of Puerto Rico and it's kind of like Hawaii. The natural habitat is what most tourist come to visit like the beach or the jungles. So a lot of tie dyer wearing hippies lol✌🇵🇷
      I am going to be selling and advertising myself, to get my name up at tourist spot like Condado beach or Luquillo. ✌🇵🇷
      Let me know what you think about everything✌.

    Where did you get your tie dye bottles I've been trying to do a heart tie dye but I find doing the folds are hard for me because I have small hands any advice you have so I can be successful at making a heart

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The larger bottles and the tiny ones are from dharma .... www.dharmatrading.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?query=bottles
      and the 4 oz bottles with metal tips are from amazon .. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DB6K3XZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      as for folding if there is to much fabric for me to hold with my hands, then I will brace it up against my chest as I fold to hod it in place ... or I will use some clips or clothes pins to hold some of the folds while i do other folds .... but it does take practice, I know I make it look easy, but that is my 20 years of practice showing... just gotta keep at it :-)

    How do you “spin out” tshirts

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the spin cycle on the washing machine to do this, you just have to check to make sure the washer does not spray water during this as that will dilute the soda ash, if yours does, you can set it to half way through the cycle ... anyways, here is a video queued up to the point where I wring and spin out my tees ....

      I used Fire Red for the large Heart and lite pink which I made from diluting my Fuchsia way down (I do not have exact measurements, but I would have started with a bottle of water and add some fuchsia to it to get it this lite, I test drops on white paper towel to get an idea of the shade)

    How tall are your folds

    • @MrTieDye

      they are usually about an inch tall, but for smaller areas, the pleats get shorter as well, so the inner heart, the pleats were maybe a half inch tall

    how do you wash out the dye without the white getting stained?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there are a few things, first of all, I use Procion dyes, after I dye my tees, I place them in a tub with a lid so they stay damp while they batch and I add heat and let them sit for 48 hours .... the heat and the extra time give the dyes more time to bond, BUT, it also leaves them almost exhausted, so there is less of a chance of back staining ....... after things have batched, I start with a cold water rinse while the tee is still tied up, this rinses away the soda ash, then I turn the water up to warm and continue to rinse as I remove the ties, once the water is running mostly clear, then I drop the tees directly into the washer which already has hot water and Synthrapol soap added... it is important to go from rinse right into the washer in the soap, if they sit for a while, then just the tees sitting on themselves, the dyes can start staining where they touch each other ..... once they are all rinse, then I wash three times in hot water
      ALSO, I use Synthrapol Soap to wash with, it is pH neutral and helps to keep the excess dyes suspended in the water (Some dyers use Blue Dawn Dish Soap or Folex Carpet Cleaner as they are both pH neutral as well ~ This is important as a higher pH will possibly reactivate the dyes, some laundry detergents have soda ash in them)
      Here is my wash out process :th-cam.com/video/t0M_nstKkjM/w-d-xo.html

      Uno de ellos es fucsia y el otro es fucsia diluido.
      Así que mezclé tinte regular y luego tomé un poco de eso en una botella y luego llené el resto con agua corriente, esto diluye el tinte, por lo que el color es un tono más claro y puedes ver eso en los dos corazones. Espero que esto ayude.

    do you know how to do a shirt with little hearts all over it?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done a few tees like that and a couple tapestries ... what I did was to lay the tee out flat and using a washable marker, I started drawing hearts where I wanted them and then I just tie each one up.... then when I have them all tied up, then I scrunch the tee up and make sure to keep each heart so it is poking out or up so I can dye it
      here is a dress I did just to give an idea of the process... this dress has a peace sign on the front, a large heart on the back and then hearts around the base... this will show you how I tie each heart and then tie it up so the heart are ready for dye... I hope this help... have fun and let me know if you have more questions 😉✌🏻🙏
